Chapter 390
While showering, Teresa pondered. Other than that meal with Sanford, she hadn't eaten with any other guys lately. So why did Jonathan say she had a new boyfriend? And what was that about photos being sent to his company?
โThatโs weird. Howโd you find out?โ Sanford shot back.
โSo it really was you,โ Teresa said furiously. โAre you out of your mind? Why would you do something like that?โ
Sanford explained, โI did it on purpose to piss him off. Heโs a jerk, and I wanted him to know that Iโd treat you way better than he ever could.โ
Teresaโs anger flared. โAnd who told you my ex was such a jerk, huh?โ
โJennifer did. She said if it wasnโt for that jerk, you two wouldnโt have gotten divorced,โ Sanford replied.
Teresa gripped her phone tightly. โSanford, can you stop listening to Jenniferโs nonsense all the time? Whatever happened between me and my ex is my business. Sheโs always running her mouth. Sheโs not exactly innocent herself.โ
Sanford sounded annoyed. โHey, thatโs your sister youโre talking about. She never said a bad word about you to me.โ
โTalking and doing are two different things. I donโt go around bragging about how good I am to Jennifer. I just show it with my actions,โ Teresa retorted.
Teresa took a breath. โAnyway, Iโll be back in a couple of days. Can you keep looking after Isabel for me? If she keeps crying, just take her to Jennifer.โ
Sanford pursed his lips. โAlright, but Iโm really confused. I asked Isabel about you, and she said youโre her mom one minute, and her sister the next. A DNA test might be best. You guys are related, is she really your daughter? Whatโs going on!โ
Teresa thought Sanford was pretty sly, secretly going for a DNA test. No wonder he was Jenniferโs friend.
โIโm still young. If my kid calls me Mom, how am I supposed to find a new boyfriend? Iโve got to leave myself some options, so I just have her call me Sis,โ Teresa said, half-joking.
Sanford was silent for a few seconds. โFine. It wouldโve been easier if youโd just told me the truth from the start.โ
โWhy should I tell you my business? You went behind my back and did a DNA test on Isabel. Doesnโt that mean you donโt trust me either?โ Teresa asked.
Sanford was left speechless. Teresa really knew how to hit where it hurt.
Right then, Teresa thought, โGood thing I never let Sanford meet Michael. Who knows what kind of tricks heโd pull if he found out about Michael?โ
With that, Teresa hung up.
She pressed the button to close the curtains, ready to rest. She had work to do tomorrow. That was the purpose of the trip. She wasnโt here to have fun.
But maybe before Michael started school in September, she could bring him here for a vacation. It was close to Eleneburg, and she wanted to take him to the theme park.
But she just couldnโt fall asleep, so she picked up her phone again. It was already one in the morning. Maybe it was the unfamiliar bed, or maybe something else. She wasnโt sure. Her mind was a mess, and she just couldnโt sleep.
Just as she was about to force herself to sleep again, her phone suddenly lit up. It was a message: [I miss you.]
It was past one a.m. When Teresa saw Jonathanโs message, her heart skipped a few beats. She grabbed her phone and replied, [Why are you still up? Go to bed. You canโt even handle your drinks but still insist on drinking every night. Take care of yourself, okay?]
Jonathan replied, [How could I be okay? Every day I feel like a zombie. Meanwhile, youโre living it up. Have you already found someone new? Is he younger than me, or just richer?]
