Chapter 380

Teresa raised an eyebrow, looking at him as if he were insane. โ€œAre you insane? Do you even know me? Weโ€™ve only met twice. And now youโ€™re proposing?โ€

Sanford smirked. โ€œIโ€™m serious. Sure, I donโ€™t know you that well, but your sister Jenniferโ€™s been my best friend for years. We trust each other. I choose you to be my wife.โ€

But the excuse was lame to Teresa. โ€œYou might not care that I have a kid, but Iโ€™m not cool with being Jenniferโ€™s sloppy seconds.โ€ Teresa turned to leave when Sanford shouted, โ€œIโ€™m going to go after you.โ€ This made Teresaโ€™s eyes blaze with anger.

Donaldโ€™s parents dragged him back to the Lynin residence. โ€œDonald, have a seat. Your mother and I have questions,โ€ said Werner.

Donald frowned at their grave faces. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on?โ€

Cathy hesitated, her face pinched as if sheโ€™d tasted something sour. โ€œCheryl called. She hasnโ€™t returned to Harigh because sheโ€™s been sick, and her business is bleeding money. Lost six thousand dollars. Too ashamed to tell us.โ€

Donald frowned. โ€œHow? Sheโ€™s running a tutoring business. Itโ€™s great.โ€

โ€œNot enough students. Rentโ€™s killing her,โ€ Cathy sighed.

โ€œI see. Cheryl never told me. Iโ€™ll call her.โ€ Six thousand was nothing to Donaldโ€”he had savings. But guilt gnawed at him. Cheryl was his sister, and heโ€™d been too distracted by Jennifer to notice her struggles. โ€œIs that why you called me back?โ€

Cathy and Werner shared a tense glance. Werner leaned forward. โ€œYour mother gave you 150 thousand dollars, and I gave you 100 thousand. Thatโ€™s 250 thousand total, all for you to buy a car.โ€

โ€œBut that Audi A7 you bought didnโ€™t cost that much. Whereโ€™s the rest? Still in your account, or gone!โ€

โ€œJust say what you mean, Dad.โ€ Donald wasnโ€™t cluelessโ€”he could tell this was about money.

Werner continued, โ€œWe saw you and Jennifer at an apartment complex yesterday. Not the wedding apartment. We asked around. You two bought another place behind our backs.โ€

Donald fell silent. Heโ€™d paid the entire down payment for Newure Garden, just because Jennifer wanted a home of her own in Nareigh. She wanted to leave it to Teresa someday.

โ€œYes, we bought a place in Newure Garden,โ€ Donald admitted.

Cathy scoffed. โ€œDonald, why keep it secret? Itโ€™s a big issue. Houses there arenโ€™t cheapโ€”about 5,000 dollars per square meter. Did you two buy it together? The deedโ€™s only in Jenniferโ€™s name. If you split, thatโ€™s her property before marriage, you know?โ€

Donald frowned. โ€œWho plans for divorce? I love her. I didnโ€™t overthink it.โ€

Werner cut in. โ€œYour mother is just concerned about you. How much did you put in? Did you use all the leftover car money?โ€ Werner and Cathy didnโ€™t know Donald had blown their money on a down payment and borrowed the car money from Jonathan.

โ€œMom, Dad, Jenniferโ€™s family. Why nickel-and-dime?โ€

Neither of his parents said a word, but their faces were anything but happy.

โ€œThis is a big deal. You shouldโ€™ve talked to us first. If we hadnโ€™t asked you today, would you have ever told us?โ€ Werner questioned.

Donald sighed. โ€œDad, Iโ€™m an adult. I can make my own decisions. I donโ€™t need permission.โ€

โ€œLoveโ€™s turned you stupid,โ€ Werner shouted, and then immediately started blaming Jennifer. โ€œAnd Jenniferโ€™s not innocent eitherโ€”why are you burying this house? If weโ€™d known about it, we would never have let you marry her.โ€

โ€œI wanted to,โ€ Donald said, clenching his fists at his sides. โ€œIโ€™ll pay you back, okay!โ€

Seeing Donald prevent him from blaming Jennifer, Werner jabbed a finger at him. โ€œOn your salary? Your mother and I broke our backs saving for your wedding. You think money grows on trees?โ€

Donald shot back, โ€œYou forced me into medicine. I wanted to start a business like Jonathan and make real money, but you said I wasnโ€™t cut out for it and Iโ€™d fail. Irene backed Jonathanโ€”even she took risks. But you?โ€
