Chapter 379

Teresa didnโ€™t press for details and got ready to leave. Jennifer stopped her. โ€œIโ€™m good now. Why donโ€™t you have dinner with me before you go?โ€

Teresa refused. โ€œNo need. Evelyn asked me to bring you this bank card. Otherwise, I wouldnโ€™t have come in person. She said the password is your birthday.โ€

Jennifer owned. โ€œTake half the money. Thereโ€™s 300,000 dollars on the card. Letโ€™s split it.โ€

Teresa sneered. โ€œNo thanks, Iโ€™m not interested in your money.โ€

Jennifer said, โ€œYou donโ€™t have to act all high and mighty in front of me. I know your company only makes a few million a year, and after expenses, you barely get 300,000 dollars. Donโ€™t pretend money means nothing to you.โ€

โ€œSo why are you giving it to me? Because you feel guilty? Or do you think I helped you get your happy ending?โ€

โ€œThink whatever you want. Youโ€™re my sister, and more than anyone, I want you to be happy. Like I said, itโ€™s fine if you donโ€™t understand me. I know who I care about, and thatโ€™s enough.โ€

Teresa was silent for a few seconds before she said, โ€œI really donโ€™t want the money. Itโ€™s unreasonable to share your dowry with me.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re about to marry into the Lynn family. We were never close, and weโ€™ll only get more distant from here on out. Letโ€™s just leave it at that.โ€

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Jennifer sighed, then forced a smile. โ€œHow about I set you up with someone? My classmate, Sanford. What do you think?โ€

Teresa retorted, โ€œAre you nuts, or did you hit your head? I have two kids, you know.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll tell him that. You donโ€™t have to mention that youโ€™re pregnant now. Just let him know you have a three-year-old son. One more kid wonโ€™t make a difference. I know Sanford. He doesnโ€™t care about it.โ€

Teresa sneered, โ€œLet me get this straight. You want to pawn off on me a guy you wouldnโ€™t date, huh? What do you take me for? No dumping trash on my doorstep.โ€

Teresa slammed the door and left. Jennifer was so angry that her face went pale. She thought, โ€œWhat did she mean? A guy I donโ€™t want? Sanfordโ€™s family is great. I just donโ€™t like him; thatโ€™s all.โ€

Teresa got home to find Michael asleep at the table, his head resting on his arms. Spread out in front of him was a drawingโ€”Jonathan in a suit, just like in their family photo.

Teresa stared at Michaelโ€™s nose, so much like Jonathanโ€™s. That night, she couldnโ€™t sleep. She stepped out onto the balcony for some air, only to catch a glimpse of a familiar Maybach driving away.

She was surprised, not knowing when heโ€™d come by again, or why he left without telling her. On impulse, she ran downstairs, but the Maybach was already gone. Teresa let out a sigh. โ€œWhy am I chasing after him like a fool?โ€

The next day was the day Jonathan was leaving Nardigh. Teresa barely slept that night. Early that morning, she saw a message from him: (My flightโ€™s today. I might come back for Donald and Jenniferโ€™s wedding, or maybe not. Otherwise, wonโ€™t be back.)

Teresa stared at the message. (What time is your flight?) She replied.

Another message from Jonathan popped up: (Will you see me off?)

Their messages crossed at the same time. Teresa replied with a simple word: (Yeah)

Jonathan sent Teresa his flight details. Teresa went to the airport. Jonathan didnโ€™t bring too much luggage. Teresa asked where he was headed. โ€œArchule,โ€ he answered. โ€œPeterโ€™s over there; figured Iโ€™d talk some things over with him.โ€

โ€œIs Peter still single?โ€ Teresa asked.

โ€œNow Iโ€™m single too. I keep him company,โ€ Jonathan joked.

Teresa couldnโ€™t help but think, Peterโ€™s way older than you. How ridiculous that you want to keep him company.

Teresa said, โ€œYou should find yourself a new wife. I wasnโ€™t joking at the family dinner. I really hope you meet someone better.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll get married when my mom does,โ€ Jonathan said.

โ€œHuh?โ€ Teresa looked up at him, curious.

Jonathan let out a soft laugh. โ€œWhen my mom gets married, and you do too. Maybe then Iโ€™ll get married.โ€ He smiled when he was speaking, but Teresa could tell he wasnโ€™t joking.

The boarding announcement came over the speakers. Teresa urged, โ€œYour flightโ€™s about to leave.โ€

โ€œYeah,โ€ Jonathan had already checked his baggage, so now he was carrying nothing. He put his hands in his pockets and searched for something. After a few steps, he turned back, pulled out a jewelry box, and opened it.

The ring inside sparkled. Jonathan looked straight at Teresa. โ€œYou threw our wedding ring into the river. I always said you were impossible. Back then, I couldnโ€™t afford anything better. Now, take this. Weโ€™re really even now.โ€

Tears welled up in Teresaโ€™s eyes, and she felt choked. Heโ€™d probably never known sheโ€™d taken that ring out of the river. This is humanโ€”act on impulse, make mistakes, and then regret them.

A tear fell onto her shoe and quickly evaporated. She shook her head, regaining her composure. โ€œYouโ€™re about to leave. Why are you giving me a ring? I donโ€™t want it.โ€

โ€œTake it,โ€ Jonathan said, pressing the ring into her hand. โ€œIf you donโ€™t want it, toss it or sell it. Up to you.โ€

Teresa said, โ€œYou can save it for your next proposal.โ€

Jonathan almost gritted his teeth. โ€œWhen I get remarried, Iโ€™ll buy my next wife an even better one.โ€

Teresaโ€™s hand clenched around the ring so tightly that her palm hurt. She didnโ€™t say anything, just accepted it.

Jonathanโ€™s expression was complicated. Sheโ€™d accepted the ring, but he wasnโ€™t happy. This wasnโ€™t the ending heโ€™d hoped for when he came back to Nardigh. But life never goes as planned.

He couldnโ€™t help but pull her into a tight hug, like it was the last time. His hand rested on her soft waist, holding her close. His face was buried in her fragrant hair.

Before Teresa could push him away, he let go, turned, and walked off without looking back. Teresa kept her eyes on his back. He once looked back. Then, all of a sudden, she felt a fetal movement in her bellyโ€”the first time sheโ€™d felt the baby move since getting pregnant with her second child. She instinctively placed her hand over her stomach.

When Teresa got back to Rosary Estates, she noticed a man pacing around her building.

Chapter 379 (continued)

As soon as she parked and got out of the car, Sanford walked over. โ€œTeresa,โ€ he said.

A clear look of impatience flashed in Teresaโ€™s eyes, but she just nodded politely and headed upstairs.

โ€œI did some digging. Jonathanโ€™s your ex-husband, right?โ€ Sanford said.

Teresa didnโ€™t answer him.

โ€œAnd,โ€ Sanford continued, โ€œyou two have a son, donโ€™t you?โ€

Teresa, about to step into the elevator, suddenly paused.

Sanford, on the other hand, stayed calm. โ€œJennifer told meโ€ฆ I told her I was interested in you, and theโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIs she nuts?โ€ Teresa cursed Jennifer in her heart.

Sanford spoke slowly and clearly, โ€œMy answer is, I donโ€™t care that you have a son. Letโ€™s get married.โ€
