Chapter 331

Jonathan raised an eyebrow. โ€œMaybe I should also check if our divorce certificate is about to expire.โ€

Teresa was stunned for a few seconds, then retorted, โ€œYouโ€™re such a weirdo.โ€ Just then, Jonathanโ€™s phone rang. He had a meeting to attend, and then he hung up.

โ€œIโ€™ll ask my assistant to come over and show you some easy positions. See if thereโ€™s anything you like. Why not just work here?โ€ He wanted to resolve Teresaโ€™s situation before going to his meeting.

โ€œSeriously, thatโ€™s not necessary,โ€ Teresa said, really not wanting to work at Jonathanโ€™s company.

โ€œWell, just go back to Nareigh. Iโ€™ll let it slide this time,โ€ Jonathan finally compromised.

โ€œWhether I go back or not is my own business,โ€ Teresa said, knowing he was busy. โ€œGo to your meeting.โ€

Jonathan replied, โ€œSure, itโ€™s your choice. But spending money on you is my choice too. Take this card. As for Miriamโ€™s gift, Iโ€™ll give it to her when Iโ€™m back in Nareigh. If I canโ€™t make it, Iโ€™ll have someone else deliver it.โ€

โ€œCome on, donโ€™t make this more difficult than it needs to be.โ€ Teresa grasped Jonathanโ€™s hand, pressed the card into his palm, left it with him, and then turned to leave.

Jonathan caught up with her by the elevator. โ€œJust think of it as me repaying you for marrying me. Donโ€™t overthink it. Just take it; no need to feel guilty, okay?โ€

Teresa said, โ€œI told you, you donโ€™t owe me anything anymore.โ€

Jonathan said, โ€œI do owe you. Itโ€™s only right. You stood by me while I chased my dreams, so the least I can do is try to make it up to you.โ€

โ€œPlease, I wasnโ€™t so good.โ€

โ€œStill, thank you. You couldโ€™ve picked someone better, but you chose me.โ€

Jonathan placed both hands on Teresaโ€™s shoulders, let out a soft sigh, and gently turned her around. โ€œIโ€™ll ask the driver to take you home. If you drove here by yourself, be careful on the way. Iโ€™ll call you after my meeting.โ€

Teresa felt helpless. As she was going downstairs, she attempted to give the bank card to Jonathanโ€™s driver. The driver quickly waved his hands, looking anxious. โ€œPlease, maโ€™am, donโ€™t put me in a difficult situation. I canโ€™t accept anything from Mr. Lynn.โ€

Teresa said, โ€œJust help me give it back to himโ€”โ€

โ€œSorry, youโ€™ll have to do it on your own. Please donโ€™t make things hard for me,โ€ the driver said, leaving Teresa with no choice but to go home for now.

Halfway through the meeting, Jonathan wanted to call Teresa. Sheโ€™d already texted, saying she got home safely and told him not to bother. He put down his phone, his eyes dark as he looked at his team. โ€œCarry on. The meetingโ€™s been extended by half an hour.โ€

After arriving home, Teresa sent Miriam an email. In the email, she wrote a few lines wishing Miriam a happy birthday, hoping that things would go smoothly between Miriam and Edward, and told her to get in touch if she ever needed anything.

To be honest, this was quite nice. If Miriam and Edward ended up together, Miriam would be related to Jonathan. She wasnโ€™t sure how things were going between Jennifer and Donald. If the two of them got along well, Jennifer would also become part of Jonathanโ€™s family. Even though she and Jonathan were already divorced, one was her best friend and the other was her sisterโ€”some bonds simply donโ€™t break.

After sending the email, Teresa didnโ€™t receive a reply from Miriam. Usually, Miriam would respond within a couple of hours, or at least by the end of the day. Teresa waited until late at night, but still got nothing.

Teresa thought, โ€œIs Miriam upset with me? Maybe sheโ€™s mad that I havenโ€™t come back to celebrate her birthday!โ€

The next day, June 13th, just as Teresa was about to email Miriam again, her phone rang. It was Benny, and he sounded extremely panicked. โ€œTeresa, somethingโ€™s happened.โ€

Teresa asked, โ€œWhat is it?โ€
