Chapter 331
Jonathan raised an eyebrow. โMaybe I should also check if our divorce certificate is about to expire.โ
Teresa was stunned for a few seconds, then retorted, โYouโre such a weirdo.โ Just then, Jonathanโs phone rang. He had a meeting to attend, and then he hung up.
โIโll ask my assistant to come over and show you some easy positions. See if thereโs anything you like. Why not just work here?โ He wanted to resolve Teresaโs situation before going to his meeting.
โSeriously, thatโs not necessary,โ Teresa said, really not wanting to work at Jonathanโs company.
โWell, just go back to Nareigh. Iโll let it slide this time,โ Jonathan finally compromised.
โWhether I go back or not is my own business,โ Teresa said, knowing he was busy. โGo to your meeting.โ
Jonathan replied, โSure, itโs your choice. But spending money on you is my choice too. Take this card. As for Miriamโs gift, Iโll give it to her when Iโm back in Nareigh. If I canโt make it, Iโll have someone else deliver it.โ
โCome on, donโt make this more difficult than it needs to be.โ Teresa grasped Jonathanโs hand, pressed the card into his palm, left it with him, and then turned to leave.
Jonathan caught up with her by the elevator. โJust think of it as me repaying you for marrying me. Donโt overthink it. Just take it; no need to feel guilty, okay?โ
Teresa said, โI told you, you donโt owe me anything anymore.โ
Jonathan said, โI do owe you. Itโs only right. You stood by me while I chased my dreams, so the least I can do is try to make it up to you.โ
โPlease, I wasnโt so good.โ
โStill, thank you. You couldโve picked someone better, but you chose me.โ
Jonathan placed both hands on Teresaโs shoulders, let out a soft sigh, and gently turned her around. โIโll ask the driver to take you home. If you drove here by yourself, be careful on the way. Iโll call you after my meeting.โ
Teresa felt helpless. As she was going downstairs, she attempted to give the bank card to Jonathanโs driver. The driver quickly waved his hands, looking anxious. โPlease, maโam, donโt put me in a difficult situation. I canโt accept anything from Mr. Lynn.โ
Teresa said, โJust help me give it back to himโโ
โSorry, youโll have to do it on your own. Please donโt make things hard for me,โ the driver said, leaving Teresa with no choice but to go home for now.
Halfway through the meeting, Jonathan wanted to call Teresa. Sheโd already texted, saying she got home safely and told him not to bother. He put down his phone, his eyes dark as he looked at his team. โCarry on. The meetingโs been extended by half an hour.โ
After arriving home, Teresa sent Miriam an email. In the email, she wrote a few lines wishing Miriam a happy birthday, hoping that things would go smoothly between Miriam and Edward, and told her to get in touch if she ever needed anything.
To be honest, this was quite nice. If Miriam and Edward ended up together, Miriam would be related to Jonathan. She wasnโt sure how things were going between Jennifer and Donald. If the two of them got along well, Jennifer would also become part of Jonathanโs family. Even though she and Jonathan were already divorced, one was her best friend and the other was her sisterโsome bonds simply donโt break.
After sending the email, Teresa didnโt receive a reply from Miriam. Usually, Miriam would respond within a couple of hours, or at least by the end of the day. Teresa waited until late at night, but still got nothing.
Teresa thought, โIs Miriam upset with me? Maybe sheโs mad that I havenโt come back to celebrate her birthday!โ
The next day, June 13th, just as Teresa was about to email Miriam again, her phone rang. It was Benny, and he sounded extremely panicked. โTeresa, somethingโs happened.โ
Teresa asked, โWhat is it?โ
