Chapter 1078
Loving someone could make people lose all sense of reason and self-control. Even so, Teresa still couldnโt bring herself to believe it; it just didnโt seem possible to her.
โAre those crocodile tears, or is she truly being sincere?โ Teresa wondered. All she knew was that, no matter what, Yalena shouldnโt have an easy time.
Eason had already left the hospital and got into his car. He arrived at a DNA testing center, his expression grim and determined.
โMr. Robert, I had a test done at your center before. This time, I want you to personally do this DNA test for me. Iโm not leaving, not even for a second, until I get the results,โ Eason said firmly.
William replied, โMr. Kelly, the results will take at least ten hours or so. Why donโt you go home and rest? Donโt worry, Iโll do the test myself, and as soon as the results are ready, Iโll call you right away.โ
โNo need. Iโll wait here in person, no matter how long it takes,โ Eason insisted. Eason sat down. Right now, all he wanted was to know if Yalena was his daughter.
In the hospital, the red light outside the operating room went off. Lucas was no longer in immediate danger and had been transferred to the intensive care unit for close monitoring.
Yalena pushed herself up, still a bit shaky on her legs. โThatโs great. Iโm going to see Lucasโฆโ
Teresa grabbed Yalenaโs arm. โJust go. Lucas barely survived. Heโs suffered enough because of you. Please, donโt ever show up in front of him again.โ
โIโll protect him from now on. I wonโt let him get hurt ever again. Iโm going to see Lucas,โ Yalena insisted. She shook off Teresaโs grip and marched straight to the ward.
Even after having so much blood drawn, she couldnโt feel any pain at all. She just sat at Lucasโs bedside, holding his hand.
โLucas, open your eyes and look at me, okay? Iโm right here,โ Yalena whispered, her voice trembling with hope. Her hand, crusted with dried blood, gently caressed Lucasโs cheek.
Teresa walked in and said, โIโm saying this one more time. Just leave, will you? If Lucas wakes up and sees you, he might just faint again.โ
Yalena shook her head. โIโm not leaving. I have to protect Lucas. I swear, I wonโt let him get hurt ever again. As long as Lucas is okay, Iโll let you off the hook.โ
โThatโs funny. Am I supposed to thank you for letting me off? Just wait. Youโre definitely going to have to take legal responsibility this time,โ Teresa snapped.
โShe hurt Lucas this badly and still acts like this. And now Iโm supposed to thank her for her so-called kindness?โ she thought, feeling even more exasperated.
Yalenaโs eyes never left Lucas for a second. โI love him. Just give me a chance. I promise Iโll be good to him.โ
โAre you crazy or just plain insane? Why would I ever give you a chance? So you can hurt me and my family all over again?โ Teresa snapped.
Teresa was about to call the cops when Yalena suddenly yelled out to stop her. โDonโt call the police. Lucas hasnโt woken up yet, and I need to see him open his eyes with my own eyes.โ
โYouโre out of chances,โ Teresa snapped, already reaching for her phone as she started to dial. Just then, Lucas woke up. He opened his eyes, looking a bit lost and confused.
โLucas.โ Teresa rushed over, her voice filled with relief. Yalena was right there too, standing nearby. Lucas glanced at Teresa and looked over at Yalena.
Yalena burst into tears. โIโm so glad youโre awake. Iโm so sorry, Lucas. I let you get hurt again.โ
Teresa quickly stepped in. โLucas, donโt listen to her. Yalena was the one who had someone run you over. Iโm calling the police right now.โ โI canโt let this woman have another chance to hurt Lucas,โ Teresa thought firmly.
โWait, Teresa,โ Lucas called out weakly. He stopped her, his voice barely above a whisper. โDonโt call the police yet, okay? Iโm fine now.โ
