Chapter 67

These were the soiled clothes Fellylaf had changed: Kelly had stuffed them into the calduet next to the bed, planning to wash them at home later. She never expected Leon to clean them and hang them out to dry. The thought of Leon, a stranger, washing her blood-stained underwear made her body heat up.

Then, the door to the room opened. Kelly's first instinct was to dive under the blanket and shut her eyes. She heard faint drips, a clinging sound, and a familiar scent—the mold told her it was Brou. She didn't know why she pretended to be asleep. The image of Leon washing her underwear shook her to the point she didn't know how to face him. Just as she debated whether to keep up the act or open her eyes, Leon said, “Since you’re awake, let’s have breakfast together.”

She never knew her acting was so bad. Kelly opened her eyes slowly and gave him a sheepish smile, “Good morning.” Although he had pulled an all-nighter, Leon still looked perfectly composed. His every move exuded confidence.

He had some food. Kelly finally noticed the takeout bag in his hand. He moved calmly, setting the containers on the table and opening them up. His hands were strong, clean, with beautifully defined knuckles. These were the hands that had just washed her bloody underwear. Her ears flushed. She forced herself to get that image out of her mind.

Leon glanced over and saw her sitting there, red-faced and frozen. Kelly quickly shook her head. “P’enfiue,”

She quickly took the spoon he offered and dug into the food, asking casually, “Did Dr. Westwood go home already?” “No. He’s working today, so he’s resting in the on-call room,” Leon replied.

Kelly felt another wave of guilt. They had gone through all this trouble just because of her. “Have some bread. It’s vegan,” Leon handed her a piece of bread. Kelly reached for it and noticed another small bag on the table. It looked like a box of…

“What’s that?” she asked curiously.

“Strawberries. For you.”

Kelly had never shown a particular liking for strawberries since they started living together, so she wondered why he would buy her any. “Why strawberries?” she asked.

Leon looked up, slightly mortified. He’d seen the strawberry pattern on her underwear and assumed she liked strawberries. Although she did like strawberries, she felt embarrassed that Leon had found out that way. She lowered her head and continued eating her food.

After breakfast, Leon handed her the oval meds prescribed by the doctor. Kelly looked at the pills, her face paling, and grimaced. She had always hated taking medicine; the taste was awful. But she wasn’t about to be dramatic; she had no one to baby her. Without another word, she popped them into her mouth and swallowed.

However, Leon seemed to pull something from the bag and held it out to her. “Your tea.” It was the same red-colored raspberry tea as last time. Kelly could still remember the sweet cherry flavor.
