Chapter 66

“In any case, the most important thing is for the mother-to-be to stay relaxed and maintain a positive mood. Don’t let stress get to you,” the doctor said.

“Got it. Thank you, doctor,” Leon replied.

Leon carried Kelly out of the exam room, and Paltan rushed over as soon as he saw them.

“How is she?” Julian asked.

“It’s a threatened miscarriage. They gave her some meds, and she has to stay overnight for observation,” Leon said.

Julian let out a quiet sigh of relief. “Alright. Let’s get to the ward then.”

He knew the hospital inside and out and led them straight to a private room that had already been set aside for them.

“Thanks for everything tonight,” Kelly said from the hospital bed, looking up at Julian.

He’d come all the way here in the middle of the night and made things a lot easier for them.

“Come on, no need for that. Leon’s problems are my problems. I know the procedures here well. I’ll go handle the paperwork and pick up the meds,” Paltan said.

With that, he slipped out, leaving only Kelly and Leon in the room.

“Your pants are stained with blood. You should get changed into something clean,” Leon said, taking out a clean change of clothes he had packed earlier. They had left in such a rush that she hadn’t had time to change.

“Okay,” Kelly replied as she slowly sat up.

Leon moved to support her. “Do you want me to help?”

He looked so serious that Kelly’s cheeks instantly flushed. She dared not imagine Leon helping her change.

“No, it’s okay,” she stammered, almost biting her tongue.

Leon’s gaze softened under the warm light. “Alright then. I’ll let you do it.”

The clean clothes were beside her, along with a pair of pink underwear with strawberry prints. Kelly wondered if Leon would think she was childish. She silently vowed to swap them all out for something sexier, like lace.

When she noticed Leon standing beside the bed, she mumbled, “Leon, could you step out? Or maybe turn around?”

Leon glanced down, noticing the pink flush creeping up her ears. With a small nod, he turned his back on her.

Then came the soft rustling of clothes. A few moments later, Kelly’s voice rang out. “I’m done.”

He turned back to see her nestled under the blanket, only her head poking out with her wide, round eyes staring up at him. Her clothes were nowhere to be seen.

“You haven’t slept all night. Get some rest now,” Leon said softly.

“What about you?”

“I’m waiting for Julian. He’ll head home once everything’s sorted.”

“Thank him for me.”

Kelly closed her eyes, but she couldn’t fall asleep. Her mind was racing, still shaken by what had happened. She couldn’t imagine losing the baby. Their marriage had started because of this child. If the baby didn’t make it, what would happen to them?

Her thoughts swirled restlessly until exhaustion finally pulled her under. Half-asleep, she faintly heard Leon and Julian speaking outside her door.

“Is your wife asleep?” Julian whispered.

“Yeah,” Leon replied softly.

“Thank God it was just a scare,” Julian said.

“Thanks again for everything tonight,” Leon said.

When Kelly finally woke up, it was already morning. She rubbed her eyes and realized she was alone in the room.

As she sat up, her gaze drifted to the balcony. She froze when she saw two pieces of clothing hanging there to dry.
