Chapter 43

Not knowing what the other person had said, Leon replied calmly, “Small issue. I just helped my wife deal with some scumbag.”

Kelly watched the scene, feeling stunned.

At the police station, Gavin, with a bruised and swollen face, angrily pointed at the calm Leon. “He attacked me! He didn’t accept the station’s mediation. He walked right up and beat me up! Look what he did to me!”

Gavin’s true colors were showing. There was none of that so-called “meekness” he had displayed earlier.

Kelly grew a little anxious. They had been in the right, but since Leon had acted first, it made them look bad. Worried the situation might turn against Leon, she quickly tried to explain, “No, it wasn’t like that. It was him…”

Before she could finish, Leon gently pulled her aside and had her sit down. She blinked in confusion and looked up. Leon remained completely composed as he ruffled her hair. “You’ve been standing all day. Sit down and take a break. From here on out, it’ll be a war between the two of them.”

Suddenly, Kelly felt her blood surge with excitement.

A police officer frowned at Leon, who showed no remorse for hitting someone. “What’s wrong with you? This is a police station. You assaulted someone right outside. Do you have any respect for the law?”

Leon turned his head slightly to look at him. It was a casual glance. But somehow, when the police officer met Leon’s eyes, his lips twitched involuntarily. “Officer, I hit him because I was angry. And when a person is angry, it’s hard to stay composed or care about where they are,” Leon explained.

The police officer scolded him, “And you call yourself a university professor? You didn’t even have basic self-control.”

Leon was amused. “I had nothing to do with being a professor. It was just what I did as a husband.”

His gaze sharpened slightly. “If someone humiliated your wife, would you still be thinking about your title as a police officer? Would you stay calm?”

“You…” The police officer was instantly at a loss for words.

Seeing this, Gavin jumped in angrily. “Officer, don’t listen to his nonsense! I never insulted his wife. Caleb and I merely talked to him for a bit. We were polite. Then, he suddenly hit me. Look at my face. He caused all these injuries. I want a medical examination. I want compensation. I want him in jail!”

Kelly looked worried as soon as she heard that. Considering Leon’s position, he could lose his job if he were to be jailed.

Leon seemed to notice her concerned gaze and gave her a reassuring look.

The police officer barked, “Do you have anything to say? Do you admit to hitting him?”

Leon’s voice was clear and unbothered. “I did. No excuses.”

“You’re aware that assault can land you in prison, right?” the police officer asked sternly.

Leon smiled slightly. “Not necessarily.”

His calm and brazen demeanor was infuriating, especially when he made provocative comments.

The police officer was seething. He thought, So what if you’re a university professor? It’s time to teach you a lesson.

Suddenly, there was a commotion in the station when the police officer was about to snap.

“Chief Caldwell.”

“Chief Caldwell, what brings you here this late?”

“If you need help, just give me a call.”

A man in his fifties, who wore a police uniform and had clearly rushed over, strode toward Leon and the others.

The police officer handling Leon’s case saw him and widened his eyes. His body stiffened instinctively. “Chief Caldwell, why are you here?” the police officer asked.

Richard Caldwell, who was the police chief, didn’t spare him a glance. Instead, he cast his gaze upon Leon. “Leon.”

Leon smiled faintly. “Mr. Caldwell, sorry to trouble you at this hour.”

Everyone there, including Kelly, was utterly shocked.
