Chapter 99
Lemira locked eyes with Alaric. He, too, was eager to uncover the truth.
Alaric, noticing Lemiraโs sarcastic expression, felt a sudden clarity. He harbored suspicions; after all, Lemiraโs gaming prowess was undeniable. The girl who could execute a twelve-hit combo was no longer the little sister who trailed behind him. She had surpassed him.
Evelina watched from the sidelines, resentment simmering. Stepping forward with feigned concern, she said, โLemmy, if you really are the streamer SweetLemon, thatโs amazing.โ
Lemira lifted her eyelids. โOh really?โ
โYes, youโve become so outstanding. With you on our team, SkyBlaze is sure to win the championship, right, Alaric?โ
Alaricโs face twisted. Of course, he wanted Lemira back on the team! He coughed slightly. โI suppose it doesnโt matter to me.โ
Lemiraโs lips curled into a cold smirk. โI never said Iโd participate in the finals!โ
Alaricโs expression froze. โWhat do you mean?โ
โYouโve forgotten your words? You said I was replaceable, that youโd already found a great team member, and that I was nothing special.โ Lemira reminded him of their conversation. She wasn't the same Lemira anymore. Hurt and mocked, then expected to return at a mere call? Never. With that, she briskly left the school grounds.
Alaric watched her go, replaying their conversation. Back then, heโd thought he could easily sign SweetLemon. Thatโs why heโd spoken so carelessly! Now, he realized that account might belong to Lemira. The last thing he wanted had happened.
Evelina chimed in, โAlaric, do you think Lemira could be SweetLemon? Their voices are identical, and she didnโt deny it.โ
Alaric clenched his teeth. โIโm not sure.โ
โBut Alaric, even if this is good news, it means Lemira knew you wanted to scout her and didnโt tell you. Sheโs been watching you make a fool of yourself!โ Evelina emphasized the last phrase.
Alaric felt his ego bruised. โI donโt think itโs her. Knowing her, she wouldโve bragged about it if it were true.โ But Lemiraโs silence persuaded him otherwise.
Evelina breathed a sigh of relief. โI thought so too.โ Lemiraโs lack of confession indicated guilt. SweetLemon couldnโt be her!
After catching a cab, Lemira visited the hospital. She knew where Lucian would be treated. She easily found his room. Stepping out of the elevator, she hesitated. The room door swung open, and the butler looked surprised. โMs. Langston, you finally came.โ
Glancing into the room and seeing Lucian absent, the butler said coldly, โMr. Lucian Langston is undergoing treatment. The doctor said the stress affected his heart. Heโll need to take it easy. Come with me.โ
Lemira followed him to a quiet corner. Lucian was resting, Evelina by his side, a picture of harmony.
โMs. Sterling has been here, bringing meals and keeping company, while you didnโt even bother to check in. Mr. Lucian Langston has been good to Ms. Sterling, shouldnโt he be?โ
Lemira lowered her gaze. โAs long as heโs okay,โ she said, her voice self-mocking.
Then, she left the hospital.
