Chapter 485

Lemira had always suspected that Asher was only marrying into the Waverlies for their influence, given her health issues. But to her surprise, he was actually becoming a son-in-law who moved into his wifeโ€™s family home. Given Asherโ€™s strong personality, Lemira doubted this arrangement would work out.

Matthew raised an eyebrow. โ€œYou really donโ€™t know anything, do you? This marriage was arranged a year ago.โ€

โ€œI honestly had no clue. He rarely comes home and never mentioned it.โ€

In her past life, Lemira only found out about this after college, and even then, it was through Evelinaโ€™s gossip. Back then, Asher never mentioned being a son-in-law, probably too ashamed to admit it.

Lemira smirked coldly. โ€œNo wonder the Langston family has been thriving this year. Asher has been too busy to even visit his hometown.โ€ It must be the resources from the Waverlies that allowed Asher to grow his business so rapidly. Not just Asher, but Caspian and Alaric too had seen great success, all thanks to the Waverliesโ€™ support.

Matthew chimed in, โ€œWhat right does a man living off his wifeโ€™s family have to threaten you?โ€

Lemira had a clearer picture now. She turned to Matthew. โ€œThanks for coming. But how did you know to find me here?โ€ Her press conference was supposed to be a secret, shared with only a select few, including Orion.

โ€œI happened to see you leaving TG Group today, so I got curious and found out about this conference,โ€ Matthew said, leaving out that he had eavesdropped on his motherโ€™s conversation about Lemira, which led him here to save the day.

Lemira didnโ€™t dwell on it and addressed the PR team from TG Group. โ€œLooks like we wonโ€™t be able to hold the conference here.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Ms. Langston, Iโ€™ll head back and see what can be done,โ€ Debby replied, implying she needed to report this unexpected development to Orion.

Matthew understood the PR teamโ€™s intent and said to Lemira, โ€œThe Waverlies have always had a strong grip on the media, even more so than TG. Asher did well to ally with the Waverlies.โ€ After all, not everyone could enjoy the luxury of being supported by the Waverlies.

โ€œI know, but itโ€™s not entirely hopeless,โ€ Lemira was aware the Langston family was trying to keep the lid on the scandal to protect Caspian and their business interests.

Matthew, seeing Lemiraโ€™s concern, confidently reassured her, โ€œDonโ€™t worry too much; it might all be resolved by tomorrow.โ€ If it werenโ€™t for his brother being away, todayโ€™s press conference would have gone ahead as planned. With the pressure from both his mother and the Waverlies, todayโ€™s situation was tricky.

Lemira replied, โ€œLetโ€™s hope for the best. I need to head back to school now, but letโ€™s catch up over dinner sometime.โ€ After all, Matthew had helped her out more than once.

Matthew offered, โ€œLet me give you a ride to school, and I can check out your teamโ€™s skills. See if you can match up against us.โ€

โ€œThat would be great. Having you there might just give them the boost they need,โ€ Lemira agreed, seeing it as a valuable opportunity.

Together, Lemira and Matthew left.

Debby immediately contacted Orion. โ€œMr. Everhart, thereโ€™s been a development. Todayโ€™s press conference had to be canceled.โ€

โ€œWhat happened?โ€ Orion was perplexed; everything had been arranged before he left. After hearing Debbyโ€™s explanation about the Waverliesโ€™ intervention and Asherโ€™s engagement, he asked, โ€œHowโ€™s Lemira?โ€

โ€œMs. Langston is handling it well. Mr. Matthew came to support her, so sheโ€™s not at a disadvantage.โ€
