Asher slammed everything off his desk, his anger making him nearly lose control. Lemira heard the commotion from outside the office: “Get back here!” A small smirk played at the corner of Lemira’s lips. She knew Asher couldn’t keep up the façade for long. After all, an outsider might betray Langston Enterprises’ corporate secrets, but she had no reason to. The company was her parents’ legacy, a branch they started from scratch.
Lemira returned to her office. The secretary quickly prepared the contract, and without a second glance, Lemira signed it. She handed over the contract: “Where’s the lead?”
Asher, with a stern face, said, “I thought you were just cold-hearted, not interested in finding the person who fled all those years ago.”
Lemira quirked an eyebrow: “Don’t waste time.”
“It’s taken me years to find even a sliver of a clue, and it’s linked to the Sinclair family.”
“The Sinclair family? Susanna’s clan?”
Asher nodded: “Exactly.”
Lemira thought about the Sinclair family’s protective stance towards Susanna. It seemed likely that the person behind the wheel that fateful night was someone from the Sinclair family, using a scapegoat driver to cover it up.
“Lemira, even if you know, you can’t investigate this alone. You’re too vulnerable by yourself.”
Lemira’s response dripped with sarcasm: “I’m so vulnerable, yet here you are, wanting to team up with me.”
Seeing Asher’s face darken, Lemira felt a surge of satisfaction and left the corporation behind. She hadn’t expected the Sinclair family to be involved, realizing she needed a plan to dig deeper into their activities around Lyria back in the day.
Lemira returned to the school’s team base. The film crew was still there, though the crowd had thinned.
“Lemira, you’re late again,” Caspian remarked, sitting relaxed under a parasol, “Even though you’re my sister, making everyone wait isn’t right.”
Evelina chimed in with a grin, “Yeah, Lemmy, we’re only waiting on your scenes now.”
Lemira’s tone was icy: “I guess I’m not in a hurry.”
“Lemira!” Caspian exclaimed.
“I’m not your sister; I deserve some respect. The team has training later, no time for filming.”
With that, Lemira walked off, indifferent to Caspian’s frustrated look. If she wasn’t in a rush, the pressure was on them, not her. Caspian liked playing the doting brother in public, so she’d let him deal with the mess. Once he couldn’t stand it anymore, he’d stop making things difficult.
Upon returning to her office, Caspian stormed in.
“Lemira, are you doing this on purpose?”
“Absolutely,” she smirked, “Anyway, it’s not my time that’s being wasted.”

“Clever girl,” Caspian snapped, “But don’t think you’ve won. We’re shooting the outdoor scenes tonight. You can’t have training then, can you?”
“Sure, that works.”
Lemira agreed readily, tired of the back-and-forth with Caspian. Her time was too precious to waste.
Caspian left in a huff. Janice entered with a smile: “Guess he won’t be dragging his feet anymore, huh?”
“Probably. Caspian’s too proud to keep this up,” Lemira replied.
“But I don’t think he’ll give up easily. You should plan ahead, so he can’t keep using this against you.”
Lemira nodded: “I’ve got enough dirt on him to ruin his reputation and cost him the Actor of the Year award.”
As she finished, she noticed the door was slightly ajar.
“Who’s there?”
Silence. Janice checked: “No one.”
Evelina, hiding around the corner, glanced at her phone where she’d recorded their conversation, a triumphant look on her face. If Caspian heard this, he’d surely come down hard on Lemira. Lemira, you’ve brought this on yourself.
