Chapter 408
โMs. Lemira, get a doctor, quick! The boss mustโve passed out from something serious.โ
Lemira coughed. โNo need for a doctor.โ
โMs. Lemira, this is no time for jokes.โ
โIโm not joking. I knocked him out myself.โ
Lemira looked a bit uneasy. โHe took my phone and wouldnโt let me leave.โ
Hogan finally breathed a sigh of relief. โThe boss didnโt want to keep you here against your will; he just wanted you to stay a bit longer.โ
โBut they never cared about what I wanted. Did they ever ask if I wanted to stay with them?โ
Hogan gave a wry smile. โI know. I tried to tell the boss before, but he wouldnโt listen. Regret doesnโt help now.โ
Knowing she couldnโt leave, Lemira felt increasingly frustrated.
Soon, Lucian came to, and upon seeing Lemira sitting on the couch, his face lit up with surprise. โLemmy, youโre still here?โ
Lemira replied coolly, โIโm going back to rest.โ
โSure, have something to eat first. Iโll have Hogan drive you back.โ
โIโve lost my appetite sitting with you. I just want to go back now.โ
Lemira was out of patience.
Lucian felt saddened; he knew it was Lemira who had struck him.
Hogan quickly tried to mediate. โBoss, Mrs. Caspian Langstonโs people are guarding outside. You should let Ms. Lemira go back herself. Forcing her to stay will only backfire.โ
Thereโs no forcing kindness.
Eventually, Lucian agreed. โAlright, Lemmy, Iโll personally take you back.โ
โNo need.โ
โIf I donโt, you wonโt be able to leave. You know how Caspian can be.โ
Lemira reluctantly agreed, but she felt terribly uncomfortable about it.
Walking out of the hospital with Lucian, indeed, none of the bodyguards dared to stop her. Hogan drove her back himself. Since Caspian knew where she lived, there was no point in hiding it anymore.
Throughout the drive, Lucian tried to find an opportunity to talk to her. But Lemira just stared out of the window, silent.
Lucian sighed; he remembered how talkative Lemira used to be. Whenever he was tired from work, Lemira would buzz around him, sharing recent amusing stories to cheer him up. He couldnโt understand how things had come to this point between them.
As they reached her apartment complex, Lucian cautiously said, โLemmy, Iโll make sure Evelina stays away from you; she wonโt hurt you again.โ
โIs Evelina the only one who hurt me?โ
Chapter 40
Lemiraโs scornful glance at Lucian was her only reply before she got out and walked away. But then she saw a familiar figure. โOrion?โ
When Orion turned and saw Lemira, he immediately put away his phone and rushed over. His tone full of concern, โWhy didnโt you answer your phone or reply to my messages?โ
โI just ran into an unexpected situation.โ
Lemira hadnโt expected her return would involve being forcibly taken to the hospital by Caspian.
Orion gave Lemira a long, penetrating look, sensing she wasnโt telling the whole truth. When Lucian saw Orion, he quickly got out of the car and followed. The two men exchanged glances, each marked with hostility.
Lemira coldly told Lucian, โYou can leave now.โ
โLemmy, I know, I was blind before, blinded by my own foolishness, and I made mistakes.โ
Orionโs voice dripped with sarcasm. โEmpty words show sincerity? That foster daughter, isnโt she still living comfortably?โ
โYou all know that the surveillance footage was destroyed. Asher wonโt believe anything I say.โ
Lucian looked troubled. โLemmy, I canโt just kick Evelina out. After all, her father died trying to save our parents, and he saved your life too.โ
Orion replied icily, โAre you so sure it was that driver who saved Lemira that day?โ
