Chapter 408

โ€œMs. Lemira, get a doctor, quick! The boss mustโ€™ve passed out from something serious.โ€

Lemira coughed. โ€œNo need for a doctor.โ€

โ€œMs. Lemira, this is no time for jokes.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not joking. I knocked him out myself.โ€

Lemira looked a bit uneasy. โ€œHe took my phone and wouldnโ€™t let me leave.โ€

Hogan finally breathed a sigh of relief. โ€œThe boss didnโ€™t want to keep you here against your will; he just wanted you to stay a bit longer.โ€

โ€œBut they never cared about what I wanted. Did they ever ask if I wanted to stay with them?โ€

Hogan gave a wry smile. โ€œI know. I tried to tell the boss before, but he wouldnโ€™t listen. Regret doesnโ€™t help now.โ€

Knowing she couldnโ€™t leave, Lemira felt increasingly frustrated.

Soon, Lucian came to, and upon seeing Lemira sitting on the couch, his face lit up with surprise. โ€œLemmy, youโ€™re still here?โ€

Lemira replied coolly, โ€œIโ€™m going back to rest.โ€

โ€œSure, have something to eat first. Iโ€™ll have Hogan drive you back.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve lost my appetite sitting with you. I just want to go back now.โ€

Lemira was out of patience.

Lucian felt saddened; he knew it was Lemira who had struck him.

Hogan quickly tried to mediate. โ€œBoss, Mrs. Caspian Langstonโ€™s people are guarding outside. You should let Ms. Lemira go back herself. Forcing her to stay will only backfire.โ€

Thereโ€™s no forcing kindness.

Eventually, Lucian agreed. โ€œAlright, Lemmy, Iโ€™ll personally take you back.โ€

โ€œNo need.โ€

โ€œIf I donโ€™t, you wonโ€™t be able to leave. You know how Caspian can be.โ€

Lemira reluctantly agreed, but she felt terribly uncomfortable about it.

Walking out of the hospital with Lucian, indeed, none of the bodyguards dared to stop her. Hogan drove her back himself. Since Caspian knew where she lived, there was no point in hiding it anymore.

Throughout the drive, Lucian tried to find an opportunity to talk to her. But Lemira just stared out of the window, silent.

Lucian sighed; he remembered how talkative Lemira used to be. Whenever he was tired from work, Lemira would buzz around him, sharing recent amusing stories to cheer him up. He couldnโ€™t understand how things had come to this point between them.

As they reached her apartment complex, Lucian cautiously said, โ€œLemmy, Iโ€™ll make sure Evelina stays away from you; she wonโ€™t hurt you again.โ€

โ€œIs Evelina the only one who hurt me?โ€

Chapter 40

Lemiraโ€™s scornful glance at Lucian was her only reply before she got out and walked away. But then she saw a familiar figure. โ€œOrion?โ€

When Orion turned and saw Lemira, he immediately put away his phone and rushed over. His tone full of concern, โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you answer your phone or reply to my messages?โ€

โ€œI just ran into an unexpected situation.โ€

Lemira hadnโ€™t expected her return would involve being forcibly taken to the hospital by Caspian.

Orion gave Lemira a long, penetrating look, sensing she wasnโ€™t telling the whole truth. When Lucian saw Orion, he quickly got out of the car and followed. The two men exchanged glances, each marked with hostility.

Lemira coldly told Lucian, โ€œYou can leave now.โ€

โ€œLemmy, I know, I was blind before, blinded by my own foolishness, and I made mistakes.โ€

Orionโ€™s voice dripped with sarcasm. โ€œEmpty words show sincerity? That foster daughter, isnโ€™t she still living comfortably?โ€

โ€œYou all know that the surveillance footage was destroyed. Asher wonโ€™t believe anything I say.โ€

Lucian looked troubled. โ€œLemmy, I canโ€™t just kick Evelina out. After all, her father died trying to save our parents, and he saved your life too.โ€

Orion replied icily, โ€œAre you so sure it was that driver who saved Lemira that day?โ€
