Chapter 397
Lemira caught the familiar tone in Caspianโs voice and almost found it laughable. How could they still be so confident in controlling her life now? Lemira lifted an eyebrow. โAnd you are?โ
โItโs me, Caspian. Have you forgotten how I used to teach you already?โ
Seeing Lemiraโs defiant demeanor, Caspian couldnโt suppress the anger boiling inside him. โNo wonder everythingโs been a mess at home lately, Lemira. Look at the trouble youโve caused.โ
The firewall at Asher Technologies had issues; Lucianโs company lost a bidding war and half its worth; and Alaric was even detained for investigation. All these troubles were linked to Lemira.
Lemira chuckled lightly. โNone of this is my concern.โ
โYou dare say itโs not your concern? Did you or did you not mess with Asher Technologiesโ firewall?โ
โAsherโs system crashed because of a hacker attack, and he begged me to fix it for him.โ
Caspianโs face stiffened. Was that the case? Evelina had told him something different. Right after he landed and came to the party, he was looking to settle the score with Lemira.
Evelina quickly explained, โCaspian, what I meant was Lemira initially hacked Asherโs system to pressure him. Now, sheโs so skilled that Asher himself asked for her help.โ
After hearing the explanation, Caspian looked at Lemira again, realizing he had never seen how capable she was before. But the sight of Lemiraโs indifferent face irritated him all over again. โAsher worked his fingers to the bone to build his company. As a member of the Langston family, you shouldโve offered your help willingly, not have him begging you.โ
Evelina quickly added, โI heard she even charged Asher $200,000 for her services.โ
Caspian grew even angrier. โLemira, youโre so heartless, charging Asher such an exorbitant fee?โ
Lemira casually cleaned her ears. โWhat else? Iโm not a charity worker here to offer free services.โ
โLemira, itโs only been a few months since we last met. How could you change so drastically?โ
Fuming, Caspian grabbed Lemiraโs wrist. โCome with me to the hospital to see Lucian and apologize.โ
Lemira effortlessly pushed Caspian away. Caspian nearly stumbled, incredulous at Lemiraโs newfound strength. Lemira wiped her hand in disgust. โDonโt touch me.โ
โCaspian, Lucian is so ill in the hospital, nearly dying because of you, and you wonโt even visit?โ
โItโs not my fault he chose to harm himself; donโt try to guilt-trip me.โ
Deep down, Lemira knew Lucianโs self-harm was a desperate attempt to make her yield. For a moment, she almost believed it was her fault, almost softened. Thankfully, Orion was by her side, helping her to see clearly. Lucian always knew how to manipulate her. Whenever she had issues with Evelina, Lucian would try to smooth things over, thinking he could downplay everything. But it was always her who ended up hurt. Including the grievances she bore right before her exams, which, in Lucianโs eyes, could be easily brushed off with an apology.
Caspianโs eyes reddened with anger. โLemira, youโre truly ungrateful. Iโm asking you one last time, are you coming to the hospital or not?โ
โNo.โ
โIf you donโt come, Iโll never forgive you for as long as I live. Iโll cut you off.โ
Caspian glared at Lemira, remembering how she used to fear his anger, afraid of him ignoring her.
Lemira laughed. โWell, thatโs a promise then. Make sure you keep your word.โ
With that, she turned and walked away. Caspian, seething, adjusted his tie. โLemira, youโll regret this.โ
Evelina, seeing how mad Caspian was, tried to console him. โCaspian, donโt be mad. Lemmyโs just being stubborn.โ
โSheโs been stubborn for too long now. How much longer does everyone have to cater to her whims?โ Caspian couldnโt believe how much had changed during his absence.
