Chapter 384
Lucianโs eyes were pleading as he said, โCome on, do it for Mom and Dad, will ya? Itโs the only thing they left us.โ
Lemira looked down, her heart softening at the mention of their parents. She looked up at Asher. โI can help fix it, but you owe me an apology. You were wrong to accuse me.โ
Asher was still fuming. Apologize? No way!
Lucian went over to calm Asher down, whispering, โMan, nowโs not the time to be stubborn. Lemmyโs our sister. Itโs no big deal to swallow your pride for family. Remember when you used to give her piggyback rides as a kid?โ
Asher was taken back to those memories. Back then, he adored his little sister, Lemira, and wanted to give her the world. So, when he made his first big earnings, he bought an antique crown just because Lemira said she liked it. But when did everything change?
After a moment, Asher gruffly said, โI was wrong earlier. I accused you without knowing the full story. That was my mistake.โ
Lemira couldnโt help but remark, โWow, an apology from you? Thatโs rare!โ
In their family, Asher was the de facto head. Always restrained and patient in public, but at home, he was short-tempered with his family. He was kind to strangers but saved his worst for those closest to him. Lemira had never seen Asher lower his head to anyone in the family before.
Lucian quickly added, โSee, Lemmy, Asher admitted his mistake. Can you please help out? Itโs about our parentsโ company.โ
โI know. You donโt have to remind me.โ
Lemira sat back down at her computer, her fingers flying over the keyboard. Soon, the Langston Groupโs website was back up and running.
Asher asked, โHow much data was leaked?โ
โA lot, but the critical stuff is still secure,โ Lemira replied before logging off.
Asher was anxious. โWhy are you stopping? Thereโs more to fix.โ
โThatโs not my problem. I didnโt cause it,โ Lemira retorted, pulling out a flash drive. โHere are the IP addresses of the attackers. You can follow these to find out who did it.โ
Handing the flash drive over, Asher tried to grab it, but Lemira pulled it back.
โWhatโs this about?โ Asherโs eyebrow twitched.
โThis flash drive? It comes with a price,โ Lemira said, her lips curving into a cold smirk. She wasnโt about to lose out on this deal.
Asher clenched his teeth. โYouโre talking money with me? After everything Iโve spent on you since you were born!โ
โMr. Asher, donโt forget, my education was covered by the trust fund Mom and Dad set up. And Iโve already paid back Lucian for everything else,โ Lemira retorted.
Chapter 484
Lucian offered a weak smile. โAsher, sheโs right. She paid me back.โ
โHumph, as if she couldโve paid back more than she spent!โ Asher scoffed.
โWhen Mom and Dad were around, I spent their money. Since they passed, and you brought Evelina into the Langston household, I hardly spent a dime of family money. It was all spent on Evelina,โ Lemira stated, her memories sharp.
Ever since Evelina arrived, Lemiraโs nightmare began. She had been living worse than a maid over the years.
Asher protested loudly, โThat canโt be right. Iโve given you more pocket money than Evelina ever got. Youโre my sister; I wouldnโt shortchange you.โ
โThen maybe you should ask Mr. Lucian,โ Lemira said, her tone laced with sarcasm. Lucian, feeling guilty, couldnโt meet his gaze: โAsher, Lemmyโs telling the truth.โ
โWhy would you do that?โ Asher demanded.
โTo keep things fair, so I treated them the same. You said Lemmy was always against Evelina, so I took Lemmyโs allowance and gave it to Evelina as compensation.โ
Lucianโs regret grew with each word. Asher felt as if heโd been struck, his expression one of stunned disbelief.
