Chapter 382
โDo I need proof for this?โ Lemiraโs tone dripped with sarcasm. โIsnโt that your favorite line? Always harping on about evidence when itโs something to do with me?โ
No evidence, so itโs her fault, not Evelinaโs. No evidence, so sheโs slandering Evelina. And now theyโre talking about evidence?
Asherโs face turned red with anger at Lemiraโs smirk. Pointing a finger at her, he barked, โDonโt give me that crap. Aside from spreading rumors, thereโs also the fact that my companyโs firewall has been under constant cyberattacks, leaving our system paralyzed now and then. Was it you?โ
โHacked?โ Temira let out a laugh. โSeems like youโve got plenty of enemies waiting to kick you when youโre down.โ
โWho else but you could pull off something like this?โ
Asher was fuming, his hand involuntarily balling into a fist, but the stern look in Lemiraโs dark eyes made him think twice, and he lowered his hand. He subconsciously touched his arm where Lemira had hit him the day before. It was still bruised.
Lemira watched as Asher lowered his fist, a cold look in her eyes. Violence seemed to be an effective deterrent against him. At least now he knew better than to try anything physical with her, aware he couldnโt win.
Lucian coughed and stood up. โLemmy, Asherโs just a bit too anxious; donโt take his words to heart.โ
Cemira was impatient. โYouโre not welcome here; just leave!โ
โLemira, Iโm not leaving until you explain yourself. You hacked into my companyโs system. I need to know if any confidential information was leaked. You owe me an explanation!โ
โAn explanation, you say?โ
Lemira opened Thaddeusโs laptop with a straight face, her slender fingers dancing across the keyboard. Code streamed across the laptop screen, and in no time, she had breached the Langston Groupโs system.
Lucian watched in surprise. He hadnโt realized Lemira was this skilled. To think she could hack into Asherโs company system on the flyโa system that cost a fortune to secure and was supposedly impervious to most hackers. Lucianโs gaze on Lemira became complex. He had underestimated her. Despite being the Langston familyโs brightest star, she had always been overshadowed and suppressed by her brothers.
Asher scoffed. โLemira, you better fix my companyโs system right now.โ
The next second, Asherโs secretary piped up in panic. โBoss, the office just called. Our entire system has crashed, and weโve lost control over the secure zones.โ
โWhat?โ
Only then did Asher face Lemira. โStop, what have you done?โ He had thought Lemira was fixing the system, but that clearly wasnโt the case!
Lemira paused, her voice cold. โYou wanted an explanation, didnโt you?โ
โThis is your explanation?โ
โIf I were hacking your company, it wouldnโt be this minor. If it were me, the damage would look exactly like this. Understand?โ
Lemiraโs expression was blank, her gaze tranquil, sending a shiver down Asherโs spine. Asher, veins throbbing at his temples, stuttered in rage. โYou dare!โ
โYou didnโt believe me. The only way to prove it wasnโt me hacking into your system was to show you.โ
Lemiraโs tone was light, almost airy. Asher turned to his secretary, yelling, โWhat are you looking at me for? Get the tech team on it! Do I look like I can fix it?โ
Idiots!
Lemira sat back, watching Asher fume and fuss, trying to find a solution that wasnโt coming easily. Soon, Asher approached Lemira, hands braced on the table, his eyes bloodshot. He said, โLemira, fix the system. Youโve dug this hole!โ
Lemira looked up, her voice soft but firm. โThen ask me nicely.โ
