Chapter 197  Asher felt his authority as the head of the household challenged when he heard Lemira’s retort.  He couldn’t help but speak up, “Lemira, this is a family matter. How can you handle it like this?”  Not to mention, Evelina’s father once saved Lemira’s life! Had she forgotten all about that?  Even the investigator couldn’t stand it and said, “Mr. Langston, you’re being unfairly biased. The one who cheated is Evelina, what does that have to do with Lemira?”  “Exactly, Lemira is the top student, how could she cheat? She’s already the best.”  “Usually, it’s the ones with poor grades who cheat, not those who is good academically. You can’t exactly copy your way to being a top  scorer.”  Asher was momentarily speechless, his expression unnatural.  He was still struggling to accept the fact. How did it turn out that Evelina was the one who cheated?  Asher stubbornly replied, “But Evelina has always been so obedient and sensible, and it was Lemira who was first reported. Have you thoroughly investigated?”  He still felt deep down that Lemira’s grades, even if improved, couldn’t possibly jump to the top of the city! It all seemed a bit exaggerated!  “Lemira being the top–scorer is something we’ve heard of, and there’s nothin  wrong with her grades.”  “Look, Mr. Langston, it’s bizarre. You have a top scorer in the family, and instead of being proud, you’re hoping her grades were achieved through cheating. What’s the logic in that?”  “Right, not standing by your sister but believing a girl with poor grades and full of lies. He incredulously looked towards Lemira, never expecting her grades to have improved so much! The evidence is there anyway. Maybe if you confess, they might go easy on you.”  “Lemira, isn’t that a bit too much?”  Lemira scoffed, “Asher, those were Evelina’s words to me just a moment ago. Now that I’m repeating them, you find them too much? Didn’t you think it was excessive when this fake angel was targeting me?”  Asher was instantly silent. He indeed hadn’t noticed that. Because Evelina had always seemed delicate, he had instinctively protected-  her more.  Asher then felt Lemira was too aggressive, “Eve is more sensible than you. Why stoop to her level?”  “Evelina, who even cheated but still couldn’t get to a good college, really isn’t worth my time. But I needed to warn her to stay away from me! Being lousy and yet still trying to play tricks, she’s no match for me!”  After Lemira spoke, Evelina, as if provoked, charged at her, eyes red with rage, “Lemira, how dare you say that to me? How dare you, you witch!”  Lemira grabbed Evelina’s hair and landed a few slaps, dizzying Evelina.  Lemira used all her strength, showing no mercy. At this point, she was on the edge of madness. If the Langstons couldn’t understand her, then let madness reign!  After being hit, Evelina, losing all rationality, fought back fiercely. But Lemira easily pinned Evelina to the ground.
