Chapter 384: Issues With the Drug

Given what was said, all Raylee could do was suppress her displeasure and give a slight nod.

“In that case, I appreciate the help, Dr. Angela.”

“Don’t mention it. I’ve known Leo for so many years, and you’re the only girl he’s ever truly cared about. Rest assured, I’ll show no hesitation in your case. Regardless of my capacity as a doctor or a friend, I will do everything in my power to treat you.”

Raylee furrowed her brows. Why is she continuously emphasizing the depth of her relationship with Leonardo? Does she truly not harbor any designs on him? I’m a woman too. Does she think I can’t sense her affection for him?

Leonardo seemingly sensed something, his tone turning serious.

“Angela, you seem particularly chatty today. Just do your job. There’s no need to talk to my girlfriend about anything else. If you can’t mind your words and actions while working with me, you might as well leave.”

With a hint of coyness in her voice, Angela said, “I’m sorry, Leo. I’ll try to talk less from now on, okay? Please don’t tell me to leave. Otherwise, where else could I find a job that pays this well?”

Once she had finished speaking, she turned to Raylee and spoke in a pitiful tone.

“Ms. Somers, I’m sorry. Could you please plead with Leo for me? When he gets angry, it’s truly terrifying. After all these years, only you manage to tame this stubborn mule. I can’t tell you how much relief that brings me.”

Raylee wore a blank expression on her face.

“You both should handle your own matters. You’re a smart woman, Ms. Angela. As long as boundaries are respected, I generally don’t interfere in Leonardo’s affairs.”

“Do you understand the concept of personal boundaries?” Leonardo casually glanced at Angela.

He then wrapped his arms around Raylee, ready to take her to the hospital.

At that moment, Angela’s phone suddenly rang. After answering it, she was taken aback.

“Oh no, Leo, there’s been a hiccup with the experimental data. We might have to hold off on giving the new drug to Ms. Somers for now. This is the data from the lab, take a look.”

Leonardo immediately checked his phone. Although Raylee couldn’t see his expression hidden beneath the mask, she could still sense an intangible wave of anxiety emanating from him.

For my sake, he has truly devoted a great deal of time and energy. A surge of tears welled up in her eyes. After all that he has done, what right do I have to be jealous? Even if Angela has feelings for him, his indifference toward Angela means nothing could come of it. It’s just a tale of unrequited love. He hasn’t done anything wrong at all. He is the best man in the world.

“Angela, arrange a private jet immediately. We’re heading back to the East Aploth lab!”

In less than a minute, Leonardo had made up his mind.

“So sudden?” Raylee looked at him with teary eyes.

“Is the new drug a real hassle to experiment on? Mr. Foucault, please give it to me straight, just how high is the success rate of this drug? If I’m truly beyond help, then don’t waste your time and energy on me.”

After he finished speaking, he headed toward the car.

Angela suddenly turned around, reassuring Raylee, “I’ve been comrades with Leo for many years, and we’re experienced in handling these unexpected situations. Ms. Somers, you don’t need to worry. With Leo’s relentless determination, coupled with my assistance, we will definitely pull you back from the brink of death. You can rest assured, no matter what your condition is, I will take good care of Leo.”

Watching the two figures hastily departing, Raylee felt a myriad of emotions raging within her, leaving her with a bitter taste in her mouth. What is Angela saying? No matter what my health condition is, she will always take good care of Leonardo? Her last sentence is nothing but outright provocation.

At that moment, Raylee felt an overwhelming urge to chase after Leonardo, to accompany him on his journey to East Aploch. However, the car was moving too fast for her. Within the few seconds she hesitated, the car’s silhouette vanished from her sight. All she could do was stare blankly in the direction of the departing car. Only after an indeterminate amount of time did Raylee listlessly enter the bakery, ordering a coffee and a few desserts.
