Chapter 339: Undeserving of Her Love
Casimir approached her like a persistent fly, pleading earnestly, โRay-Ray, our previous meetings were always on campus, and our interactions were either arguing or fighting. That wasnโt pleasant at all. Since Mr. Foucault isnโt by your side today, this is a great opportunity for us to have a good chat. What do you say?โ
Raylee shot him a teasing stare. โWhat should we talk about? How did you manage to sever ties with Waverly, or perhaps our shared history, and how did you cunningly swindle my shares? If youโre interested in discussing the return of my shares, then I might be a bit intrigued.โ
โRay-Ray, the timing isnโt right yet. Once the timing is right, Iโll return your shares to you, principal and interest included. I would never deceive you; please trust me. I will certainly keep the promises that need to be fulfilled!โ Casimir stated solemnly.
Raylee shook her head. โIf I had known about your true colors earlier, I would have been better off falling for some random homeless guy on the street. At least theyโre a lot more humble and know their place.โ
Slightly frowning, Casimir asked, โWhen have I ever deceived you since our childhood? You canโt just dismiss all the nice things Iโve done for you due to the issue with the shares, can you?โ
โNice things you did for me? Like what?โ Raylee asked with a sarcastic smile.
โFor instanceโฆ On your every birthday, I would always buy your favorite cheesecake.โ
โThatโs not called a cheesecake; itโs a vanilla cake. One is yellow, and the other is white. After all these years, you still canโt tell them apart? How silly!โ
Slightly flustered, Casimir admitted, โEven though I canโt recall the exact names, the truth is that Iโve bought them for you every year.โ
โBut were you aware that Iโm allergic to vanilla?โ
Surprised, Casimir asked, โWhy would you eat it, then? And why didnโt you tell me about your allergy?โ
Raylee looked at him with disappointment. โBecause I liked you, and I didnโt want to let your kindness go to waste! Actually, every time after we ate, my face would break out in red rashes, but you never bothered to ask me what was wrong. Even though you easily noticed my allergies, you simply didnโt care. Looking back now, you were never truly deserving of such a self-sacrificing love.โ
Casimir heaved a deep sigh. โIโm sorry. Iโve been neglecting you, I realize that now. I wonโt ever buy you vanilla cake again. You could tell me what you like to eat and drink, and if thereโs any gift you desire, feel free to share it with me. From this moment forward, I will always remember. Your preferences will be my top priority.โ
Raylee waved her hand dismissively. โThereโs no need for that. A shattered mirror canโt be made whole again. Thatโs an unchanging law of the universe. To me, youโre nothing more than a swindler who cheated me out of my shares and didnโt pay me back. If I had evidence, I would have sued you a long time ago!โ
โDid you really have to put it that harshly? I never meant to deceive you. Youโre well aware of the circumstances back then. Without the shares you gave me, I couldnโt even have retained my position as the CEO of Sutherland Group. I had overestimated my capabilities. I thought I was fully prepared. I believed I could safeguard my career and wealth, while also preserving my relationship. Regrettably, things didnโt go as planned. If a man loses his career, what right does he have to speak of love and romance? Losing my standing in Sutherland Group equates to losing you. Rather than ending up with nothing in the end, itโs better to hold onto at least one thing. So, letting you go was a temporary strategy,โ Casimir said, exasperation lacing his tone.
There wasnโt a trace of empathy in Raylee as she listened to Casimirโs elaborate web of lies. No matter what reasons he had, it didnโt justify him sacrificing her and using her. She was a human being, a person of flesh and blood, not something to be used casually or discarded at will.
Raylee raised her head to look at the man standing in front of her, who was the embodiment of selfishness. He sees women as mere stepping stones on his path to success? Back then, he claimed to have chosen me, yet, fearing I would hinder his career, he mercilessly abandoned me after deceitfully acquiring all my shares. He ruthlessly abandoned Waverly back then because she was unable to provide him with any assistance in his career due to the decline of the Goodridge family.
Even though Raylee harbored a deep resentment toward Waverly, she found it quite tragic that Waverly shared the same fate as herself โ being stuck with such a man consumed by greed and desire.
