Chapter 331: Ambushed on Campus
Upon hearing the mention of the Ragdoll cat, Raylee was reminded of her own pet cat, accidentally killed by Waverly. Unable to resist the temptation, she agreed immediately. As soon as she arrived at the science building, the bespectacled female classmate had vanished by the time she turned around. For some unknown reason, the streetlights were not on, and the surroundings were shrouded in darkness.
Upon hearing meowing from the bushes, Raylee still believed there was an injured cat nearby. With the illumination from her phone's flashlight and guided by the sound of the cat's meows, she carefully made her way into the bushes.
โDie, you b*tch!โ
A figure swiftly darted past behind her, followed by the malevolent voice. Raylee cautiously looked over her shoulder. In the pitch darkness, an unidentified liquid arched through the air, heading in her direction. She deftly sidestepped to avoid the incoming liquid; however, she wasnโt able to completely dodge it, and some of the unknown liquid ended up on her hand. Suddenly, a searing pain washed over her skin.
โWhat? This is sulfuric acid!โ Raylee immediately identified the composition of the unknown liquid. โSo, this person intends to disfigure me with sulfuric acid!โ At that moment, she had no idea where her phone had fallen.
โWho are you? Why did you splash sulfuric acid on me? This is Jexburgh University, not a place where you can just act recklessly like this!โ Raylee shouted into the darkness. From a distance, a hint of light could vaguely be seen. Under the dim light, Raylee saw a woman wearing a black face mask, holding a bottle of unknown liquid, staring at her with a sinister gaze.
โThe one whoโll be sending you to hell!โ
After that, the woman let out a sly chuckle and swiftly darted to one side, using a tree as a shield as she continued to hurl sulfuric acid at Raylee. Raylee was no pushover. Having been caught off guard once, there was no way she would let it happen a second time. She too, found a tree for cover and immediately crouched down. The back of her hand was corroded by sulfuric acid, sending waves of searing, intense pain through her skin.
Bearing the pain, she quickly took off her backpack and used it to shield her face. She then began searching in the direction where the woman was presumed to be hiding.
As she cautiously approached the woman, a stern voice echoed. โI have been watching you from upstairs for quite some time. Youโre lurking around here so suspiciously. To think you were actually plotting to ambush one of our own students!โ
Raylee looked toward the direction from which the sound came and saw a tall man gripping the back of a girlโs clothing with one hand while holding a flashlight in the other. Under the illumination of the flashlight, Raylee could finally see the woman clearly. As it turned out, the person who had splashed sulfuric acid on her was none other than Mindy.
โMindy again? She just wonโt leave me alone! It seems this woman wonโt rest until she has completely destroyed me!โ
While struggling, Mindy was simultaneously yelling in anger, โWho are you? Let go of me! Iโm warning you; go back to where you came from, and stop meddling in my affairs!โ Despite her struggles, the man didnโt let her go. He held her as effortlessly as one might carry a chicken, reprimanding her with a stern tone, โWhich course are you from? What liquid is in that bottle youโre holding? You have some nerve ambushing students from Jexburgh University!โ
Growing impatient, Mindy tipped the bottle backward. โBe careful! Thatโs sulfuric acid!โ Raylee exclaimed in alarm. The man reacted swiftly, releasing Mindy just before the sulfuric acid was splashed onto him. In the end, only a speck landed on his clothing. The sizzling sounds of corrosion echoed through the air, sending chills down oneโs spine upon hearing it.
โSulfuric acid? How utterly malicious! This is a grave instance of assault, a clear violation of the law!โ the man roared in anger. After Mindy managed to break free from the manโs grasp, she tumbled twice in the bushes, inadvertently spilling all the sulfuric acid she held in her hand.
In a huff, she spat out, โConsider yourself lucky today, you b*tch!โ As soon as she finished speaking, she hastily ran away. The man wanted to give chase, but Raylee dissuaded him by saying, โNo need to go after her. I know who she is, so Iโll settle the score with her when the time is right.โ
The manโs brow was furrowed, his expression extremely serious as he replied, โPouring sulfuric acid on someone is a serious crime. Iโll help you call the police. She must be brought to justice. Donโt worry; Iโll testify for you and tell the police everything I saw.โ
โThereโs no need to involve the police in this trivial matter.โ Raylee waved her hand dismissively, her voice firm as she continued, โItโs not worth wasting such resources on lowlifes like her. I wasnโt planning on letting her off the hook anyway. After what happened tonight, Iโll make her regret her very existence.โ
โAll right; I respect your decision.โ As the man moved beside her, the beam from his flashlight illuminating their surroundings, he exclaimed, โOh, no! Youโre hurt! Here, let me take you to the campus infirmary and help dress your wound.โ
