Chapter 293: The Scare

โ€œWhy does that womanโ€™s purple dress look like Rayโ€”Rayโ€™s?โ€ Halston wondered aloud. โ€œIt must be a coincidence. That woman had too much to drink and was carried away. Raylee doesnโ€™t drink, so it probably isnโ€™t her.โ€

When Halston returned to his original spot, Raylee was nowhere to be found. He searched everywhere, but he couldnโ€™t find her. No one answered the phone either. Realizing that something was wrong, he immediately made his way toward the restroom. However, the woman in the purple dress had already disappeared, and he had no idea where she had been taken.

Meanwhile, the dazed Raylee was brought into a room. Following that, one of the waitresses who had assisted her spoke up. โ€œThe task is done. Call Ms. Woollen right away for the payment. Itโ€™s a thousand, and not a penny less.โ€

Another person said, โ€œJust helping a drunk into a room, and getting paid a thousand is such a great deal. Do you think she might try to avoid paying us?โ€

โ€œDo wealthy people care about a thousand? To them, even ten thousand is nothingโ€ฆโ€

Soon, the door to the room was closed. Raylee bit down on her tongue ceaselessly, trying to maintain a shred of consciousness. She had no idea who this Ms. Woollen the waitress was referring to. Could it be Mindy? The guess simply made her realize how dangerous her situation was. She must surely be up to no good!

In a short while, Raylee heard the room door open, and the anxious voice of Plumpy echoed in her ears. โ€œMs. Somers, sorry Iโ€™m late. You must have been frightened. Donโ€™t be afraid, Iโ€™m here to take you away now.โ€

When Raylee heard it was Plumpy, the anxiety that had been gripping her heart finally eased. Plumpy brought her into the next room, where she was fed a pill. Soon, her consciousness and vision gradually returned. However, the intense heat within her body lingered. By then, she suspected that her drink had been spiked.

โ€œMs. Somers, how are you feeling now? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?โ€

The door to the room suddenly swung open as Plumpy finished speaking. It was the masked man. Without a word, he pulled Raylee tightly into his embrace.

โ€œWhenever I take my eyes off you, you get into trouble. When can I ever have some peace of mind?โ€

His voice, laced with concern and helplessness, made Raylee pity herself even more. With teary eyes, she wrapped her arms around the masked manโ€™s waist tightly. She was like a little girl who had been bullied outside, returning home to seek comfort in the arms of her parents. The masked man was like a guardian to her.

Six months ago, it was he who found her in the graveyard, consumed by desperation and longing for death. He took her in and took care of her. This led to the stunning transformation she had undergone.

After a moment, Raylee let go of his hand, complaining in a grumpy tone, โ€œSince when did you keep an eye on me? You were too busy enjoying yourself while chatting with Ms. Layla! I donโ€™t believe you were watching me at all. Hmph, youโ€™re such a jerk!โ€

โ€œHeyโ€ฆโ€ The masked man traced her nose with his finger. โ€œAre you jealous?โ€

โ€œJealous? Please!โ€ huffed Raylee, turning her back angrily.

โ€œStill claiming youโ€™re not jealous?โ€ The masked man suddenly turned serious. โ€œYou downed that glass of wine because you were upset, and that was how someone took advantage of the situation. Next time, even if youโ€™re angry with me, youโ€™re not allowed to casually accept drinks from strangers, got it?โ€

Raylee stuck out her tongue, feeling delighted inside. However, she was still wearing a look of annoyance. โ€œYou were chatting with another woman, yet you were still keeping an eye on me. Anyone would have to be unlucky to encounter a jerk like you!โ€

โ€œIn that case, are you unlucky?โ€ The masked man gently touched her forehead. โ€œI guess you are. Youโ€™ve got a fever now. This is all my fault. If I didnโ€™t insist on sticking to what you said about not making our relationship public, I would have you by my side every single moment.โ€

โ€œIs that why you pretended not to know me?โ€ Raylee felt a wave of despair. โ€œI thought you and Ms. Layla had a great time talking, as if you were wishing you could have met her earlier.โ€

โ€œYou silly gal, sheโ€™s already married. Her husband and I have business dealings, and weโ€™ve become old friends.โ€

โ€œI see!โ€

Raylee was utterly disgusted with herself. She had needlessly worked herself into a state of frustration and even drank a questionable glass of wine. She couldnโ€™t believe how foolish she had been.

At that moment, Plumpy, upon receiving the message, immediately came over to report, โ€œSir, weโ€™ve determined that the individual who ordered the waiter to serve Ms. Somers the spiked drink is someone named Mindy Woollen. This wasnโ€™t the first time she tried to hurt Ms. Somers. A week ago, she had been sued for spreading false rumors about Ms. Somers. She subsequently apologized and paid three hundred million in compensation. She probably held a grudge. That was why she targeted Ms. Somers again.โ€

The masked manโ€™s approach to dealing with the problem was simple yet ruthless. โ€œThrow her into the sea to feed the fish.โ€

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™m going to deal with her right now. To dare harm Ms. Somers, she wonโ€™t even get the chance to have any regrets!โ€

With a huff, Plumpy flung the door open, ready to get rid of Mindy.
