Chapter 265: Dropping a Bomb
Halston was taken aback. โWhat? Havenโt you cut ties with the Goodridge family? You even shot the door lock open! Thatโs a clear-cut case of breaking and entering!โ
Raylee flashed a cunning smile. โWhatโs wrong with that? You helped me move all that stuff, so youโre an accomplice too!โ
Halston wore a mournful expression. โWait, how am I an accomplice? Ray-Ray, are you purposely setting me up?โ
Raylee gently patted his shoulder, soothingly saying, โHow can you say Iโve set you up? Weโre in the same boat here, after all. If the Goodridge family starts seeking revenge, youโll just have to find a way to calm them down!โ
Choked with tears, Halston felt rather wronged.
Following that, Raylee had him make another trip to the Goodridge residence on his motorcycle. The Goodridge family didnโt allow her to enter, but that was no problem, as the heir of the Mulligan family served as their ticket in. Following Halston, they confidently strode into the Goodridge residence.
Without uttering another word, Raylee thoroughly searched Alaricโs study, bedroom, and even the storeroom. Still, there was no sight of Veraโs safe, which inevitably made her feel anxious. Alaric had hidden his safe incredibly well. Does he really think he has me defeated? Dream on!
Several housekeepers anxiously trailed behind her. โMs. Raylee, this is the Goodridge residence; you canโt just rummage around! Youโll get in trouble if Mr. Goodridge finds out and calls the police!โ
โRay-Ray, what exactly are you looking for? You should talk to your foster parents or maybe ask Samuel. Please, donโt resort to burglary again!โ Halston pleaded, with a sorrowful expression on his face.
โIf I could have asked, would I have needed to come look for it myself?โ
With a heavy huff, Raylee turned around and headed back to the living room. Following that, she detonated a small bomb, destroying Alaricโs favorite coffee table and liquor cabinet. Suddenly, the mansion was filled with thick smoke.
Boom! With a thunderous boom, Halston and the housekeepers were so startled that they crouched on the ground. The bomb wasnโt very powerful, so no one would get hurt as long as they kept their distance. However, Alaricโs treasured collection of fine coffee beans and alcohol were completely destroyed. Those were his prized possessions.
Once the smoke had somewhat cleared, Raylee left a message for the housekeepers, saying, โInform Mr. Goodridge that he needs to hand over Old Mrs. Goodridgeโs safe! The explosion earlier was merely a small welcome gift. If he doesnโt return the safety deposit box, Iโll come back and blow up the entire Goodridge residence! At most, weโll all die together!โ
The housekeepers were so frightened that they didnโt dare to say a word. After delivering a harsh ultimatum, Raylee left the Goodridge residence. Halston was still dumbfounded, but when he saw her leaving, he quickly followed.
First, she had the audacity to pick a lock with a gun, and then she brazenly threatened to bomb the Goodridge residence. Raylee was constantly pushing the limits of what he could accept.
In just a few short hours, he had several heart-stopping experiences.
โRay-Ray, this is the Goodridge residence weโre talking about! You canโt just bomb it like thatโฆ I could handle a burglary case out in the suburbs, but blowing up someoneโs house? If Mr. Goodridge decides to investigate it, then Iโll be done for!โ Halston said nervously.
Raylee replied, โItโs you whoโll be done for, not me. Listen to my advice, and no matter what difficulties you encounter, youโll be back on your feet twenty years from now. However, I believe in you. After all, youโre the heir of the Mulligan family. Thereโs nothing in this city of Jexburgh that you canโt handle. Iโm rooting for you!โ
โIโฆโ Revitalized by the shower of praises, Halston found his spirits lifted. โHeh! Itโs but a minor issue, so donโt you worry! Leave it to me; Iโll help you handle it!โ
Raylee nodded in relief. While he went to retrieve his motorcycle, she seized the moment to hail a cab and left.
As soon as Raylee returned to Royal Court, she saw the masked manโs assistant standing upright at the door with a suitcase in tow. Her face fell, and she hurriedly ran upstairs, only to bump into the masked man.
She asked, โMr. Mask, are you leaving again?โ
The masked man gently ruffled her hair. โI have some urgent matters to attend to. While Iโm away, make sure you behave yourself and attend your classes on campus. Oh, and help me take care of Dodo. Iโll be back soon.โ
โBut you just returned yesterday! Why are you always leaving so often? You said youโd be back soon last time, but then you were gone for half a month! Are you going to disappear for several months this time?โ Raylee asked worriedly.
The masked man swiftly pulled her into his embrace, soothingly saying, โI didnโt want to leave either, but I really have some matters to attend to. When did you become so clingy, Raylee? I missed you too, you know? I wished I could stay home every day. Every minute, every second I spent with you, I canโt even begin to express how happy I was. If it werenโt absolutely necessary, I wouldnโt have wanted to leave either.โ
