Chapter 248: The Newcomer
The girl in the photograph was tall and slender, with delicate features. Her skin was smooth and fair, even carrying a hint of baby fat. Overall, she looked radiant and captivating, a sight that immediately caught everyone’s attention.
“She could well have returned after going missing! How can there be two people in this world who look so alike? I tell you, she must be Raylee and is back for revenge!” Mindy declared.
“Hmph, she thinks she’s worthy to seek revenge on me? She’s a woman with nothing at all, what right does she have to challenge me?” Waverly dismissed the thought with disdain, then she turned to Mindy and instructed, “Find out the identity of this woman for me and which faculty she is from. I refuse to believe she is Raylee!”
“Sure, give me five hundred thousand, and I’ll start investigating for you right away,” Mindy casually demanded, all the while admiring the fresh manicure she had just gotten.
“You’re charging me half a million just to investigate someone?” Waverly said, clearly annoyed.
“Do you think my money grows on trees? Forget it, you don’t need to check. I’ll find someone else instead.”
Mindy’s current role was that of her academic companion. Ever since their last major argument over the fake jewelry, Mindy had clung to Waverly completely. Ironically, Waverly simply couldn’t shake Mindy off because she carried too many secrets.
Mindy, however, was adamant, “I’m a bit strapped for cash at the moment. Even if you don’t need me to look into something for you, you should still lend me five hundred thousand to tide me over.”
“Have you been gambling again? Be careful, you might get set up by someone else!” Waverly said, clearly annoyed.
“I’m not gambling. Hey, just tell me, will you lend it to me or not?” Mindy was getting a bit irritated.
“Half a million to you is just the cost of a meal, isn’t it? Why are you being so stingy? Do you still consider me a friend? If you refuse to lend it to me, then don’t blame me for having loose lips!”
Faced with the threat, Waverly begrudgingly transferred the money to Mindy.
After completing her enrollment at the academic office, Raylee collected her school uniform and some textbooks. Her official admission was scheduled for the next day. She walked all the way to the school entrance, turning countless heads everywhere she passed.
Right then, a charming young man on a bicycle blocked her path. The young man was dressed in a tattered denim outfit. He ran his fingers through his stylish green hair, striking what he believed to be his most handsome pose. He turned toward Raylee, raising an eyebrow as he asked, “Hey, miss, which faculty are you from? What’s your name? You’re really beautiful. That’s a face that I would never forget.”
Raylee lifted her gaze toward him, her voice cold as she replied, “Move aside. I’m in a hurry.”
“Wow! An ice queen, huh! That’s just my type,” the young man exclaimed. He then flashed his WhatsApp QR code on his phone.
“Why don’t you add me? My cat can do backflips. You’re welcome to come over and watch anytime. By the way, I’m Halston Mulligan. Yes, that’s right. I am indeed the one you’re thinking of – the youngest son of the Mulligan family, the second most influential family in Jexburgh. That’s me!”
Halston took great pride in his status and had let it get to his head. He was utterly confident that Raylee would surely be captivated by his status as a wealthy young scion.
Just as expected, Raylee paused for a moment. However, she wasn’t surprised by his identity as a scion of a prestigious family. Instead, it was about Halston himself. He was already causing trouble in high school when he got a girl pregnant, leading to his expulsion. He is, without a doubt, a jerk.
Observing Halston in his tattered denim attire, complete with his garish green hair, Raylee felt that he looked entirely out of place in school. Instead, he bore a striking resemblance to a street urchin, with nothing about him seeming remotely respectable.
“How did someone like this get into the prestigious Jexburgh University? I guess money and power do make the world go round.”
Upon noticing a change in Raylee’s complexion, Halston thought she was intrigued by his status, and thus, urged her, “Quick, add me to your contacts! Not only can my cat do backflips, but I can do them too. When I get home and take off my shirt, you can admire my abs while watching me do backflips.”
Raylee’s face could hardly hide her disgust. Without sparing him a glance, she bypassed Halston and left. Her driver was already waiting at the school entrance, and Raylee headed toward the luxury car.
