Chapter 186: A Trap

In a rare good mood, Waverly agreed, saying, โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ve accepted the gift. As for what you just said, Iโ€™ll pretend I didnโ€™t hear it.โ€

โ€œThank you! Thank you, Ms. Goodridgeโ€ฆโ€

After leaving the Goodridge residence, Bertrand pressed his Bluetooth earpiece before saying, โ€œMs. Goodridge, the task you assigned me has been completed.โ€

โ€œI heard everything that transpired. Youโ€™ve done an excellent job. Iโ€™ll send you the final payment immediately and add an extra two million on top.โ€

Raylee put down her phone, her face radiating with confidence. She had considered the possibility of Waverly falling into a trap, but she didnโ€™t expect her to fall for it so easily. With AI technology being so advanced these days, she didnโ€™t harbor a single doubt that those voices were fake.

However, Raylee was never worried about Waverly being suspicious. She knew that the pretentious woman would instantly turn into a hopeless romantic when it came to matters involving Casimir. At that moment, the plan was halfway to completion. It was like catching a target that was already within her grasp.

Over at the Goodridge residence, upon learning that Waverly was to attend a banquet on the top floor of Majencio Hotel a week later, both Harriet and Samuel were taken aback.

โ€œWavy, why would you want to attend Tiffanyโ€™s birthday party?โ€ Samuel asked anxiously. โ€œWas it her who invited you? Or was it someone else?โ€

Bewildered, Waverly asked, โ€œIs Ms. Tiffany also holding her birthday party on that day? What a coincidence, isnโ€™t it?โ€ She wondered how the top-level venue would be allocated on the same day. However, on second thought, she realized that the top floor was so spacious that perhaps they each had half to themselves. After all, Casimir was the son of the Sutherland family, and his social status was extremely impressive. She thought Tiffany would share the top floor out of consideration for Casimir. The circle is so small, so no one would dare to offend anyone else lightly. Waverly incessantly sought excuses for Casimir in her heart. In short, she was convinced that Casimir would throw her an early birthday celebration on the top floor and publicly announce their engagement.

Moreover, she had someone appraise the ruby necklace. It was indeed a treasure from an overseas auction, and it was priceless. To call it a once-in-a-lifetime treasure wouldnโ€™t be an exaggeration. Ultimately, her unwavering belief was due to the precious birthday gift and those incredibly realistic voice messages.

โ€œWhat did I tell you before? You are not to attend any banquets hosted by those heirs and heiresses from Jexburgh!โ€ Harriet Mernly reprimanded.

Waverly couldnโ€™t tell them about Casimirโ€™s surprise for her, so she had no choice but to plead in a pitiful manner. โ€œMom, itโ€™s not like Iโ€™m going to confront Tiffany or anything. I just want to see whatโ€™s going on. Please, let me go!โ€

โ€œNo way!โ€ Harriet firmly rejected her request. โ€œThis is a matter of principle. Even if you plead with me, I wonโ€™t agree!โ€

โ€œExactly!โ€ Samuel chimed in. โ€œDonโ€™t you remember? Almost four years ago, you nearly had an incident at Tiffanyโ€™s birthday party. Had it not been for Ray-Ray covering for you, you would have been the one behind bars. Where would your comfortable life be then? Moreover, since Jeremiahโ€™s death is still recent, the relationship between our family and the Lorimer family is strained. You absolutely cannot put yourself in the line of fire at this moment.โ€

Chapter 186: A Trap - Finished

Iโ€™ve grown up now, matured in my thinking. I wonโ€™t cause you any trouble. Mom, I know you mean well for me, but Iโ€™m a person. I need to stand on my own two feet. Youโ€™ve confined me for four years. You canโ€™t possibly expect to do so for my entire life.

โ€œConfined you?โ€ Harriet was highly disappointed. โ€œWeโ€™re just protecting you! For the past four years, had we not kept a close watch and even used Ray-Ray as the scapegoat, do you think you could have been safe and sound?โ€

Waverly let go of Samuel, saying defiantly, โ€œAll right! I get it. You donโ€™t need to constantly bring up Raylee to pressure me. I know I owe her, okay? If you all feel that youโ€™ve wronged her, then lock me up and let me serve four years in prison. That way, I can pay back everything I owe her!โ€

โ€œWavy, whatโ€™s with your temper today? Why have you gotten angry so easily? You werenโ€™t like this before.โ€ Harriet said, taken aback.

Samuel also furrowed his brows deeply. โ€œFor the past four years, weโ€™ve refrained from even mentioning this matter, all in an attempt to ease your guilt. However, look at you, having the audacity to say such things. Itโ€™s only today that Iโ€™ve realized you have absolutely no remorse toward Ray-Ray.โ€

Waverly almost let her true self slip out, so she quickly corrected herself, saying, โ€œMom, Samuel. I spoke without thinking earlier. Please donโ€™t take it to heart. I just feel so lonely. Iโ€™m the daughter of the Goodridge family, and I yearn for my own social circle and friends. If it wasnโ€™t for Rayleeโ€™s biological motherโ€™s wicked deeds, which led to us being switched, I canโ€™t even begin to imagine how many friends I would have made growing up in the Goodridge family!โ€
