Chapter 186: A Trap
In a rare good mood, Waverly agreed, saying, โDonโt worry. Iโve accepted the gift. As for what you just said, Iโll pretend I didnโt hear it.โ
โThank you! Thank you, Ms. Goodridgeโฆโ
After leaving the Goodridge residence, Bertrand pressed his Bluetooth earpiece before saying, โMs. Goodridge, the task you assigned me has been completed.โ
โI heard everything that transpired. Youโve done an excellent job. Iโll send you the final payment immediately and add an extra two million on top.โ
Raylee put down her phone, her face radiating with confidence. She had considered the possibility of Waverly falling into a trap, but she didnโt expect her to fall for it so easily. With AI technology being so advanced these days, she didnโt harbor a single doubt that those voices were fake.
However, Raylee was never worried about Waverly being suspicious. She knew that the pretentious woman would instantly turn into a hopeless romantic when it came to matters involving Casimir. At that moment, the plan was halfway to completion. It was like catching a target that was already within her grasp.
Over at the Goodridge residence, upon learning that Waverly was to attend a banquet on the top floor of Majencio Hotel a week later, both Harriet and Samuel were taken aback.
โWavy, why would you want to attend Tiffanyโs birthday party?โ Samuel asked anxiously. โWas it her who invited you? Or was it someone else?โ
Bewildered, Waverly asked, โIs Ms. Tiffany also holding her birthday party on that day? What a coincidence, isnโt it?โ She wondered how the top-level venue would be allocated on the same day. However, on second thought, she realized that the top floor was so spacious that perhaps they each had half to themselves. After all, Casimir was the son of the Sutherland family, and his social status was extremely impressive. She thought Tiffany would share the top floor out of consideration for Casimir. The circle is so small, so no one would dare to offend anyone else lightly. Waverly incessantly sought excuses for Casimir in her heart. In short, she was convinced that Casimir would throw her an early birthday celebration on the top floor and publicly announce their engagement.
Moreover, she had someone appraise the ruby necklace. It was indeed a treasure from an overseas auction, and it was priceless. To call it a once-in-a-lifetime treasure wouldnโt be an exaggeration. Ultimately, her unwavering belief was due to the precious birthday gift and those incredibly realistic voice messages.
โWhat did I tell you before? You are not to attend any banquets hosted by those heirs and heiresses from Jexburgh!โ Harriet Mernly reprimanded.
Waverly couldnโt tell them about Casimirโs surprise for her, so she had no choice but to plead in a pitiful manner. โMom, itโs not like Iโm going to confront Tiffany or anything. I just want to see whatโs going on. Please, let me go!โ
โNo way!โ Harriet firmly rejected her request. โThis is a matter of principle. Even if you plead with me, I wonโt agree!โ
โExactly!โ Samuel chimed in. โDonโt you remember? Almost four years ago, you nearly had an incident at Tiffanyโs birthday party. Had it not been for Ray-Ray covering for you, you would have been the one behind bars. Where would your comfortable life be then? Moreover, since Jeremiahโs death is still recent, the relationship between our family and the Lorimer family is strained. You absolutely cannot put yourself in the line of fire at this moment.โ

Chapter 186: A Trap - Finished
Iโve grown up now, matured in my thinking. I wonโt cause you any trouble. Mom, I know you mean well for me, but Iโm a person. I need to stand on my own two feet. Youโve confined me for four years. You canโt possibly expect to do so for my entire life.
โConfined you?โ Harriet was highly disappointed. โWeโre just protecting you! For the past four years, had we not kept a close watch and even used Ray-Ray as the scapegoat, do you think you could have been safe and sound?โ
Waverly let go of Samuel, saying defiantly, โAll right! I get it. You donโt need to constantly bring up Raylee to pressure me. I know I owe her, okay? If you all feel that youโve wronged her, then lock me up and let me serve four years in prison. That way, I can pay back everything I owe her!โ
โWavy, whatโs with your temper today? Why have you gotten angry so easily? You werenโt like this before.โ Harriet said, taken aback.
Samuel also furrowed his brows deeply. โFor the past four years, weโve refrained from even mentioning this matter, all in an attempt to ease your guilt. However, look at you, having the audacity to say such things. Itโs only today that Iโve realized you have absolutely no remorse toward Ray-Ray.โ
Waverly almost let her true self slip out, so she quickly corrected herself, saying, โMom, Samuel. I spoke without thinking earlier. Please donโt take it to heart. I just feel so lonely. Iโm the daughter of the Goodridge family, and I yearn for my own social circle and friends. If it wasnโt for Rayleeโs biological motherโs wicked deeds, which led to us being switched, I canโt even begin to imagine how many friends I would have made growing up in the Goodridge family!โ
