Chapter 154: Revolting Hypocrisy
โSecondly, if she doesnโt go on the rescue mission at Musmeynia, will you take her place? Even if you want to, you canโt. After all, they specifically asked for Raylee to go!โ
Samuel was berated to the point of falling silent. He held his aching head and let out a deep groan.
As the ambulance was taking away Waverly and Samuel, Waverly suddenly struggled to free herself. She grabbed Casimirโs hand, crying and pleading, โCasimir, will you accompany me to the hospital? My leg is really hurting. Please, stay with me. Iโm begging you, donโt leave me. I truly love you.โ
Casimir wanted to break free from her grip, but she held onto him tightly. With a stern expression, he said, โWaverly, let me go. Time is running out. I need to catch my flight. I canโt afford any delays.โ
Waverly cried her heart out, the sound tearing through the silence. โRaylee can go alone. Why must you tag along? Are you only concerned about her well-being, and not mine? You accuse my parents of playing favorites, but arenโt you guilty of the same! Weโve been engaged for over four years now, and yet your attitude toward me has always been so indifferent. Do you truly consider me as your fiancรฉe? If you didnโt like me, why did you agree to marry me? You gave me hope only to plunge me into despair. Youโre truly cruel!โ
While pouring out her grievances, Waverly adamantly refused to let Casimir leave.
Raylee watched the scene unfold, a flicker of impulse flashing through her heart. She, too, wanted to emulate Waverly and drag Casimir away with her.
How could she not feel the impulse? After all, he was the man she had loved deeply throughout her youth. No matter how much she resented him, part of him lived on in her heart, an indelible presence that would linger for her entire life.
Ultimately, she still dismissed this impractical thought with reason.
โIโm going to board the plane now,โ Raylee said nonchalantly before she turned around and left.
โWait for me. Iโll catch up soon.โ Casimirโs promise echoed behind her.
Kaylee didnโt respond. Instead, she decisively left.
Shanice wasnโt the only person to accompany Raylee to the security check. Alaric was also present.
โMr. Goodridge, why are you following us instead of staying at the hospital with your precious daughter?โ Shanice asked with a sarcastic tone.
Alaric wore a solemn expression. He hesitated for a moment before finally uttering, โRaylee, may I have a word with you in private?โ
Glancing at the time, Kaylee declined, โThereโs not enough time. Letโs do it next time.โ
โItโs just a few words, Raylee, and it wonโt take long. After this farewell, I donโt know if weโll ever meet again. Iโฆโ Old Alaric sighed deeply. At that moment, he resembled a doting father, struggling to let go as his daughter set off on a long journey.
This scene wasnโt the first time it had happened. Years ago, Kaylee had gone to a summer camp abroad. Alaric had escorted her to the station, watching as she disappeared into the distance. She still vividly remembered the longing look in his eyes.
Still, what difference did it make?
Chapter 154: Revolting Hypocrisy (Finished)
Shanice was observing the melancholic expression on Alaricโs countenance at that moment. Far from being moved, she responded even more sarcastically, โSo, youโre actually worried about Raylee? I thought your whole family canโt wait for her to be out of the picture.โ
โShanice, I donโt think like that,โ Alaric sternly admonished, his face rigid. โDonโt accuse me of such malice. It wouldnโt be good if Kaylee misunderstands.โ
โIs there still a misunderstanding? Isnโt it obvious?โ Shanice wanted to continue speaking but was interrupted by Raylee.
Kaylee said to Alaric, โIโll give you two minutes, then I have to board my flight.โ
โOkay.โ Alaric immediately displayed a look of joy.
The two of them stood next to the window, in a slightly quieter location.
โRaylee, the journey to Musmeynia is fraught with danger. I donโt know if Iโll be able to see you again once you leave. So, you must take good care of yourself.โ
โNo need for nonsense.โ Raylee frowned.
โIโm genuinely worried about you,โ Alaric sighed heavily. โI know weโve deeply hurt you in the past four years, but it canโt erase the eighteen years of our father-daughter bond.โ
โYouโre also aware that thereโs a good chance I wonโt make it out alive if I go, and yet, you still let me. Youโre watching me march toward death yet you claim youโre worried about me? Donโt you think your hypocrisy is revolting?โ Raylee couldnโt help but lose her temper.
The expression on Alaricโs face turned solemn. A flicker of guilt flashed in his eyes, but it disappeared just as quickly. He held a paternal affection for Raylee, albeit limited.
After a moment, he finally spoke with a heavy tone. โI know Iโve wronged you. The five percent of shares is my way of making it up to you. Even Waverly doesnโt have these shares. Theyโre only for you.โ
โHa! The prerequisite is that I return alive to claim the shares. This is something you can easily dismiss, yet Iโm expected to risk my life for it,โ Raylee retorted, glaring at Alaric mockingly.
