Chapter 129: Deciding Her Own Marriage
Still kneeling, Raylee pleaded earnestly, โI canโt promise that Iโd be happy after marrying into the Lorimer family, but Iโm certain it would be better than my current situation! In the entire city, only the Lorimer family has enough power to help me escape from this predicament. I want to take control of my own life and honor. I hope you will support me!โ
โI know youโve suffered a lot living with the Goodwin family,โ Vera said, her voice filled with both sympathy and regret. Wiping away her tears, she gently caressed Rayleeโs cheek, her touch full of affection. โMy dear, I respect your decisionโฆโ
At that moment, Samuel was outside, directing the movers as they prepared to transport the betrothal gifts back to the Lorimer family. When Raylee stepped out, he caught sight of her and was visibly thrilled. With a chuckle, he said, โWouldnโt it have been better if youโd agreed to breaking off the engagement earlier? You had to drag Grandma into this, causing so much trouble and making everyone unhappy.โ
He continued, โI forbid you from marrying Jeremiah for your own good. I canโt stand by and watch you blindly leap into a pit of fire. Youโll thank me for this one day!โ
โYou took it upon yourself to decide my marriage. Arenโt you afraid of our parents?โ Raylee scoffed.
โYou donโt need to worry about that,โ he said casually. โIโm their only son. Whatโs the worst they could do besides scold me a little?โ
With a confident air, Samuelโs eyes glowed with satisfaction. โWhatโs this? Are you actually worried about me?โ he teased. โAt least you have some conscience, acknowledging the effort Iโve put in.โ
Raylee shot him a look but didnโt respond. As she watched the workers move box after box of betrothal gifts out of the mansion, she suddenly gave an order. โEnough. Put everything back where it was, then you can leave.โ
The workers exchanged puzzled glances, clearly confused, and turned to look at Samuel.
โHow can we break off the engagement without returning the betrothal gifts to the Lorimer family?โ Samuel frowned. โI know you donโt want to call off the engagement, but this isnโt up to you. Grandma has the final say!โ
โGrandma has already agreed to my marriage into the Lorimer family. Thereโs no need for you to interfere anymore.โ Samuelโs expression darkened. โImpossible! Youโre making this up!โ
At that moment, Hazel stepped forward and gently reminded them, โMr. Goodridge, Old Mrs. Goodridge just laid down. Please donโt make a fuss here. Have the workers bring the betrothal gifts back inside, then you may leave.โ
โHazel, tell me this isnโt true! Grandmaโs really arranging for Raylee to marry Jeremiah?โ Samuel exclaimed in shock. Hazel nodded. โItโs true. Old Mrs. Goodridge also said that RayโRay has her own thoughts, and you should stop interfering.โ Without another word, Samuel stormed toward Veraโs room, determined to get an explanation.
Meanwhile, after directing the workers to return the betrothal gifts to their original place, Raylee was about to head back to her room. As she ascended the stairs, she ran into Samuel just as he was coming out of Veraโs room. His face was filled with disappointmentโit was clear his attempt at negotiation had failed.
Kaylee glanced at him briefly but didnโt bother engaging. She continued upstairs on her own. Samuel quickly caught up, grabbing her arm in a firm grip, his teeth clenched. โKaylee, donโt play hard to get! Iโm asking you one last timeโare you going to call off the marriage or not?โ
Rayleeโs arm throbbed painfully from his grip. She winced, struggling as she refused. โI wonโt back down! No matter how many times you ask, my answer wonโt change!โ
โAll right then, donโt blame me,โ Samuel snapped before forcefully dragging her out of the Goodridge Manor.
โSamuel, what are you doing?โ Rayleeโs frail body was yanked forward, nearly stumbling apart. She struggled fiercely, but Samuel refused to let go. Panicked, she cried out, โHazel! Grandma! Help me!โ
The entire Goodridge Manor only had one live-in housekeeper, Hazel, but she was in Veraโs room and didnโt hear Rayleeโs cries. Before Raylee could say more, Samuel clamped a hand over her mouth. His car was parked right at the entrance. Swinging the door open, he shoved her inside. โSamuel, what the hell are you doing? You canโt get what you want with words, so now youโre resorting to force? This is Grandmaโs houseโdonโt you dare cross the line!โ
Raylee raised her voice in anger, struggling with all her might. During the scuffle, her sharp nails left a few deep scratches on Samuelโs face. But he didnโt care in the slightest. Gritting his teeth, his voice was laced with resentment. โRayโRay, you forced my hand, so donโt blame me.โ
With that, he reached under the seat and pulled out a rope and duct tape. He sealed her mouth shut, then bound her hands behind her back. The difference in strength between them was undeniable. Raylee felt like a helpless fish on a chopping board, completely at his mercy. She had no way to fight back.
Only then did Samuel finally feel at ease. He got into the driverโs seat and sped away from the mansion. Kaylee stared in horror at what lay ahead. With her mouth sealed shut, all she could manage were muffled, helpless cries. Never in her wildest dreams had she expected Samuel to take such a ruthless approach.
