Chapter 125: Make Her Go Through What I Did
Waverly couldnโt help but chastise Mindy in a reproachful tone. โCould you at least give me a heads-up next time before you do something foolish? You almost gained nothing and risked everything.โ
Mindy was still confused. โI miscalculated this time, but Rayleeโs reaction was strange. She actually accepted my identity and even called me cousin? What do you think sheโs really up to?โ
โNo matter what sheโs planning, you better stay away from her!โ
On the day of Veraโs birthday celebration, there were no grand festivities. Instead, a feast was simply prepared at home for a family gathering.
Raylee was about to leave her room and had just pulled the door open when she found Samuel blocking her way.
โIs there something you need, Mr. Goodridge?โ she asked placidly.
โLetโs chat,โ Samuel said, walking right in without waiting for a response. He took in the stark black-and-white theme of her bedroom. It was minimalist to the extreme, and he couldnโt help but frown.
The room was almost devoid of decorations and looked as simple as a bedroom from the 1950s. Aside from a pet cat curled up on the bed, the entire bedroom was devoid of any liveliness. This wasnโt how it was supposed to be.
In the past, Raylee had a fondness for sleeping in an extravagant, dreamlike princess room. The room was filled with her favorite figurines and various decorations; entering her room was like stepping into a fairy tale world. The stark contrast left Samuel feeling a huge lump in his throat. His dark eyes were filled with a bitter sadness as he began to speak, his voice slightly shaky.
โRay-Ray, your room here is too plain and doesnโt suit you. Weโve kept your room at the Goodridge residence just as you left it. Youโre welcome to come back and stay anytime. Nothing has been touched.โ
He then went over and picked up the cat, his expression a mix of complexity and excitement. โThis cat looks just like the one I bought for you, Biscuit. Did you purposely get one that looks exactly the same to keep you company? Iโm truly comforted.โ
Could this mean that she still held onto the brother-sister bond they once shared?
โGive it back to me!โ Raylee swiftly snatched the cat backโthe little kitten she had rescued from Lorimer Estate.
She snapped angrily. โWhat right do you have to even mention Biscuit? It was you who caused its tragic death. I wish you and Waverly would pay for it with your lives!โ
Kayleeโs words caused Samuel, who was originally filled with hope, to instantly plummet from heaven to hell. He opened his mouth, intending to apologize, but what came out instead was a rebuttal. โWhy are you still hung up on this dent? Biscuit has been gone for so many years now?โ
โEven if a hundred years passed, I wouldnโt let it go!โ Kayleeโs face was a whirlwind of intense emotions, her anger laced with a touch of grief.
โAnd youโre telling me no one touched anything in my room? Didnโt Waverly take everything that wasnโt nailed down? After she returned four years ago, she immediately claimed the large room I had occupied for eighteen years. After that, my favorite figurines, jewelry, clothes, bags, even Casimirโwas there anything she set her eyes on that she didnโt take? I let herโฆโ
โDid you all treat me like that?โ
โRay-Ray, I never realized you were harboring so much pain. Why didnโt you speak up about it before?โ Samuel let out a deep sigh. โAt that time, we had just found Wavy, so our entire family was immersed in joy. Iโm sorry to have overlooked your feelings.โ
Raylee gave him a cold glance.
โItโs too late for any of this now, as I no longer care. Ever since you sent me to prison with your own hands, Raylee Goodridge vanished from this world. Now, I exist only as Raylee Somers, a living shell filled with nothing but hatred!โ
โRay-Ray, I understand that youโre harboring a lot of resentment and anger, but can we separate the issues? Could you possibly reconsider marrying Jeremiah out of spite?โ Samuel pleaded, his voice almost desperate.
โNo way!โ
Holding her cat, Raylee responded tersely before she moved to leave the room. Samuel, in a fit of emotion, gripped her arm tightly. โTell me, what will it take for you to call off the engagement? Name your terms; as long as itโs within my power, I will make it happen!โ
โReally?โ
โOf course!โ
โThen make Waverly go through what I didโsend her to prison for four years.โ Raylee looked at him, her expression a mix of amusement and seriousness.
Samuel immediately refused. โNo way! Wavy is delicate and frail. How could she endure such a long stint in prison? Our parents would never agree to it either!โ
Raylee let out a scoff. โIf you canโt do it, then donโt just spout nonsense everywhere, all right? Itโs really off-putting.โ
โIโm only looking out for your best interest when I do everything in my power to stop you from marrying that scumbag. Donโt be ungrateful!โ Samuel said, his frustration turning into anger.
โThereโs no need for you to trouble yourself, Mr. Goodridge. Take good care of yourself, eat well, and drink well. That way, once I marry into the Lorimer family, youโll be able to take more than a punch.โ Raylee cast a mocking glance at him, her voice laced with a hint of amusement.
