Chapter 118: You Dare Shoot Me?
โJeremiah, you need to let go! Youโre going to choke her to death! Once sheโs gone, your criminal evidence will be exposed for the entire world to see, and then youโll be done for!โ Layla cried anxiously.
Jeremiah abruptly let Raylee go. He had been so close to strangling her to death! Her neck was so slender and delicate that he could easily grab it with just one hand. Observing the fear in Rayleeโs blown pupils, he realized just how fragile this womanโs life was. She was but a mere adopted daughter, yet she dared to flaunt her power in front of him? It was practically a death wish!
Raylee had just narrowly escaped death, and at this moment, she was breathing heavily. Every breath taken was a testament to her desire for survival. She valued her life greatly, and it was precisely because of this that she dared to openly challenge Jeremiah. She hadnโt expected to nearly send herself on a one-way trip to the afterlife. No, she couldnโt afford to be scared. Now, only by becoming strong herself could she protect herself!
โDonโt worry, I wonโt let you die that easily,โ Jeremiahโs handsome face remained expressionless. โIf you dare to spread this information aroundโฆ Iโll make your life a living hell.โ
Once her breathing had steadied a bit, Raylee cleared her throat, clutching her aching neck. A sinister smile spread across her face.
โThen letโs wait and see! I have nothing left to lose. If youโve got the guts, really finish me off. Even if I turn into a vengeful ghost, Iโll haunt you forever!โ
Jeremiah thought that his actions just now would have served as a deterrent. Yet, surprisingly, she wasnโt scared at all. At that moment, Raylee glared at him with fierce eyes. Her petite figure belied an endless, explosive power.
The very next moment, she suddenly dashed to the other side of the coffee table, snatched the gun away, and aimed the muzzle at Jeremiah. Everything happened so rapidly that it left everyone present stunned.
โRayโRay, no! Put the gun down!โ Layla exclaimed in shock.
Raylee turned a deaf ear, her eyes squinted and fixated intently on Jeremiah. In the next moment, she pulled the trigger.
Bang!
The deafening sound of a gunshot echoed. A bullet found its mark in Jeremiahโs left calf, and he let out a stifled grunt.
โJeremiah, are you okayโฆ?โ Layla rushed over, anxiously looking at his injured leg. She rebuked Raylee in anger, โRaylee, how could you actually pull the trigger? You usually seem so reserved, yet you dared to fire a gun?โ
Jeremiah clutched the bloody hole in his left leg, his expression filled with pain. Incredulously, he looked toward Raylee.
โYou, a woman, dared to shoot at me? You sure have some nerve!โ
Raylee lowered her gaze, glaring at him in annoyance.
โDid you know? While enduring endless torment in the District Nine Prison, I also learned how to treat a gun. If you dare hum at me again next time, even if itโs just a tiny bit upsetting, the bullet will be aimed right there.โ
Raylee pointed to his forehead, her face radiating a fierce determination, as if she were ready to face death without fear. Jeremiah clenched his fists tightly, his nails almost digging into his flesh. He growled in anger. โGo ahead and tryโฆ Thereโs yet to be a woman whoโs dared to cross me.โ
โAll right. I will. Iโm dying anyway. Taking you down with me doesnโt sound too bad.โ After she finished speaking, she let out a scoff. Then, she kept the gun in her own pocket.
โThis gun is mine now. Remember, commit fully to our marriage and stop harboring ill intentions.โ
Just as she was about to leave, Jeremiah spoke with a somber tone. โDo you really think you can just threaten me and shoot me, then smoothly walk away from Lorimer Estate?โ
โOh? Are you planning to invite me to stay for dinner? If thereโs good food, I might consider it.โ Raylee gave him a disdainful glance. She was nonchalant and infuriatingly calm, a demeanor that almost made Jeremiah drop dead on the spot from anger.
Layla furrowed her brow and spoke up, trying to uphold justice. โJeremiah, just let Raylee go. After all, youโre the one who messed up so badly. Sheโs just a vulnerable woman. If she doesnโt fight back, sheโs left with no other option but death. To be honest, if I were in Rayleeโs shoes, I might be even more ruthless.โ After speaking, Layla let out a deep sigh. She was well aware of all the things her own brother had done, and she utterly detested him. Even so, she was helpless as he was her own brother after all. She couldnโt bring herself to act against him in the name of justice.
There was no expression on Rayleeโs face at Laylaโs insincere defense. As she turned and stepped out the door, Layla suddenly blocked her path. Layla reached into her pocket and handed Raylee an emerald bracelet.
โRaylee, I donโt have much to make it up to you. This is the heirloom my grandmother left me. Now Iโm giving it to you. My grandmother once said that it could only be passed down to those in the Lommer family. But who could blame me when my brother owes you so much! Keep the bracelet. Regardless of whether you end up marrying Jeremiah or not, I wonโt take it back.โ
