The more Evelyn thought about it, the angrier she became. The angrier she got, the more she wanted to go out!
“Dan!” she called out to the driver. “Get ready. I’m heading out in 20 minutes.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied.
Evelyn went upstairs to change and even put on some makeup. By the time she was ready, Dan was already waiting for her. She bent down and got into the car.
“Let’s go.”
As expected, the moment the car approached the main gate, she spotted Lucy and Franklin squatting on either side of the iron gate. The two looked like menacing statues.
“Ma’am, those two have been camping by the gate this whole time. What if they rush forward and try to block the car?” Dan asked nervously.
He had reason to be concerned–just a few days ago, when he’d taken the car out for servicing, the two of them had tried to block his way. Only after confirming there was no one else in the car did they let him pass.
Dan was fed up with them. It was clear that they were shameless and reckless troublemakers. All he wanted was to keep his job, collect his paycheck every month, and not risk his life over this.
Evelyn snorted coldly at his words. “Don’t worry about them. Just drive straight ahead, and don’t stop. Whatever happens, I’ll take full responsibility!”
Dan felt a surge of fear but didn’t dare defy her orders.
As the car moved toward the gate, the two of them reacted like dogs catching a scent, immediately leaping to block the way. Dan instinctively wanted to hit the brakes, but Evelyn’s piercing gaze from the back seat made him hesitate.
He clenched his teeth and stepped on the gas, speeding up.
Lucy and Franklin had blocked cars before, but every other driver had obediently stopped. This time, however…
Lucy’s face changed drastically. She quickly pulled her son aside to avoid getting hit.
The next second, the car sped through the spot they had just occupied, moving at an alarming speed. If they hadn’t stepped aside in time…
“Unbelievable! They were trying to kill us!” Lucy yelled.
“There’s no doubt about it. That old witch Evelyn is definitely inside that car!”
“These so-called wealthy families are all a bunch of crazy lunatics. If they really hit us, I doubt they could afford to pay!” Lucy yelled angrily.
“Don’t think you can just walk away tomorrow just because you could today! Let me tell you, if you don’t give us a proper explanation, we’ll be here every day, causing a scene until the whole neighborhood knows about it! If you make life difficult for us, we’ll make sure your entire family is humiliated!”
Hearing the shouting behind her, Evelyn glanced back with a cold sneer. The sight of the mother and son jumping around in frustration somehow brightened her mood.
“Mom, what do we do now? She’s gone. Should we keep staying here?” Franklin asked in confusion. They had been coming here daily just to force Evelyn to show up, but now that she’d left, only the housekeepers and security guards were left in the house.
It seemed pointless to stay any longer.
“She might’ve left, but that doesn’t mean she won’t return. If you’re tired, you can go home. I’ll stay here and wait! Let’s see if she dares to never come back!”
Lucy’s plan was simple. She didn’t have to work, so she had all the time in the world to wait Evelyn out.
Franklin thought about it and realized she made a good point. “Alright, I’ll stay too. I’m not leaving until they pay up!”
Little did they know, they’d end up waiting two full days.
“Mom, do you think she’s really not coming back?” Franklin complained while swatting at mosquitoes. His face and neck were covered in red bumps, and he scratched at them continuously.
Lucy scoffed, “I don’t believe it. This is her home. Where else could she go?”
“But rich people have so many houses. Any place could be home for her…”
At that moment, Franklin’s phone rang. He answered impatiently, but as soon as he heard the voice on the other end, his eyes lit up.
He began thanking the caller profusely, even promising to treat them to a meal.
After hanging up, he turned to Lucy, his face brimming with excitement.
