Chapter 73
Epileptic seizures caused by a brain tumor compressing nerves could usually be cured by removing the tumor โ the primary cause. Once the tumor was excised, most seizures resolved.
The doctor almost thought he was hearing things, but there was no mistakeโhe clearly heard the high school girl say she could do it herself.
After a long pause, he finally replied, โYou must be joking, young lady.โ Then he added reassuringly, โDonโt worry. While our doctors may not be as famous as Dr. Shelly from Yaleview Hospital, every attending physician here has decades of surgical experience. Youโre in good hands.โ
Shermaine pressed her lips together and remained silent.
Wearing her school uniform and without any ID on her, she knew she didnโt seem credible enough, so she simply gave up trying to explain.
The doctor picked up the phone to call for a specialist.
It wasnโt long before the specialist walked in.
The two doctors got straight to discussing the case.
Shermaine listened to their conversation and thought to herself, โNo major issues here, but that poor girlโdeveloping a tumor at such a young age. Tumor removal isnโt a complete cure, and the recurrence rate is still quite high.โ
To ensure the studentโs postoperative recovery, boost her survival chances, and enable her to take the SAT next year, Shermaine picked up a pen and paper from the desk and began writing a prescription.
After finishing the prescription, Shermaine handed it to the doctor. โDr. Markley, this is a prescription for her postoperative recovery. Please follow my instructions for her medication after the surgery. Thank you.โ
This was a first for Norman Markley.
โWhere did this girl even come from? Can the medicine really be taken so casually? Just use it like that? What if the patient develops complications laterโwhoโs going to take responsibility?โ Norman couldnโt help but wonder.
But when he glanced at the prescription, his eyes widened in surprise. Softening his tone, he asked, โYoung lady, may I ask who trained you in medicine?โ
โShe must have a master,โ Norman mused.
Shermaine replied, โDanielle Shelly is my senior.โ
โIn Wallingtonโs medical community, Danielle is legendaryโfamous for her youth and extraordinary medical skills. But how could Danielleโs apprentice be just a high school girl? That doesnโt make sense!โ Norman thought.
Danielle graduated from Sterling University.
Shermaine swiftly scribbled down a series of numbers. โThis is Danielleโs personal number. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to herโjust mention my name, Shermaine Shue.โ
Her manner was so open and aboveboard, it didnโt seem like she was lying.
Moreover, the prescription was absolutely impeccable โ meticulously detailed and professionally crafted. It resembled the work of a veteran practitioner with decades of experience. In fact, even the most seasoned herbalists might hesitate to prescribe such bold combinations as she did.
As soon as she left, the doctor turned to Norman and asked, โDr. Markley, about that prescriptionโฆโ
Norman murmured, โPriceless.โ
The doctor was stunned. โWaitโฆ so when she said she could perform the surgery herself earlier, she actually meant it?โ
โContact this number,โ Norman instructed.
โOkay,โ the doctor said, and dialed the number immediately.
Danielle picked up immediately. โHello?โ
The doctor instantly recognized that voiceโit was his goddess, after all. He became so flustered he started stammering incoherently, until Norman took over the call. โHello, Dr. Shelly. May I ask if you know Shermaine Shue?โ
Danielle stated solemnly, โShermaine is my junior sister.โ Thinking Shermaine kept a low profile and often encountered obstacles practicing medicine, Danielle continued, โYou should look into Sterling Universityโs genius all-round surgeonโMs. Shue.โ
After leaving the doctorโs office, Shermaine informed her teacher and then left the hospital, heading back to school.
Just then, an ambulance pulled up and paramedics helped out a sobbing college girl. โIt was so scaryโฆโ she wailed, tears streaming down her face.
The counselor who got out of the ambulance with her scolded, โAt your age, this is sheer recklessness! If Wendelyn hadnโt been passing by, youโd be in a body bag. Donโt you dare forget to thank her.โ
The girlโs expression darkened. Resentfully, she said, โI only fell in because my legs gave out. If others hadnโt rushed over, thereโs no way she would have jumped in to save meโshe was just putting on a show.โ
โHow can you be so heartless? How dare you say something like that?โ
The college girl protested in her heart, โIโm telling the truth! Why wonโt you believe me? Fine, Iโll find proof to show you.โ
Because the incident happened at the prestigious Basterel University and involved Wendelyn, the campus belle, the media quickly capitalized on the story. Soon, she was trending onlineโdubbed โMost Beautiful College Girlโ by netizens.
That afternoon, at the tennis court, phone in hand, Roy approached Joshua, who had just finished playing and was drinking water in the rest area. With his glasses off, his eyes looked more intense and predatory than ever.
โJoshua, look! WendelynโMost Beautiful College Girl. Too bad you didnโt go for her!โ
Joshua tilted his head back, taking a swig of water. At those words, he abruptly crushed the bottle in his hand, his eyes darkening. In a dangerously low voice, he said, โIโve told you beforeโdonโt mention her in front of me.โ
Just then, Henry came back from the court, grabbed a towel and wiped the sweat from his face.
With a smirk, he said, โRoy, if you keep this up, Joshua might just banish you to some backwater.โ He added teasingly, โSo, how much did Wendelyn pay you to keep shilling for her in front of him?โ
Roy sulkily put away his phone. โSheโs actually a good personโhow come none of you can see that?โ
Henry couldnโt be bothered with him.
He didnโt care what Wendelyn was like. As long as Joshua didnโt think much of her, that was all that mattered.
Joshua suddenly added in a dangerously low voice, โStay away from that hacker. Donโt you dare bother her again.โ
Roy looked bewildered. โJoshua, why? This is my first crush on someone in our field. Why are you trying to kill my vibe?โ
Joshua stated tersely, โSheโs mine.โ
