Chapter 577
Molly was quick to act, swiftly setting up a large, high-tech laboratory for Shermaine. She sent over the address and then casually asked, โWhat do you need the lab for?โ
Shermaine smiled and replied, โYouโll find out in a couple of days.โ
Molly didnโt press the matter, as sheโd know soon enough.
Remembering that Bruce and Shermaine had some history, Molly asked, โDo you remember Bruce?โ
Shermaine paused for a moment, then nodded. โI remember him.โ
Mollyโs face grew serious. โHeโs gone missing.โ She lit a cigarette, the flame flickering briefly. โIt looks like after you left, Bruce went back to Ustrana and kept tracking the Immortality Project.
โHe was determined to take them down, but theyโre slippery. He got a lead a little while ago, went after themโฆ and then he vanished.โ
Shermaine changed into her clothes, taking her time before walking out the door. โIf the news spreads too quickly, itโs probably a trap.โ
Molly blinked, confused. โWhat do you mean?โ She was capable when it came to fighting, but she wasnโt quite as skilled in reading between the lines and playing games of deception.
Shermaine shrugged. โRoyโs disappearance is connected to those people from the Immortality Project.โ
After a moment of thought, Shermaine decided to share a bit more with Molly. If she didnโt, Molly might never figure out that Roy was the wolf sheโd been keeping by her side, especially with Roy hiding it so well.
Mollyโs eyes widened in surprise. โYou found something out?โ
Shermaine nodded. โYeah.โ
โYou mentioned that Bruce had been tracking that group for years. But if you couldnโt find Royโs whereabouts for two yearsโฆ shouldnโt it be suspicious if his news suddenly leaks out like this?โ
Mollyโs words made sense.
Shermaine added, โHonestly, if it wasnโt for Roy hiding you two years ago, they wouldโve found you instead. Youโd have been the one taken. And you wouldnโt have had a chance to wait for Bruce to come and save you.โ
As they reached the parking lot, she pulled out her car keys. โSo, in a way, this just confirms what happened back then. It wasnโt just your third sister behind it all. It was a group effort.โ
Molly hadnโt considered that angle before. She always thought her siblings were too scattered, each focused on their own things. She never imagined theyโd work together like that.
Shermaine continued, โRight now, your weak spot, aside from your mom, is Bruce. Your mom is always at the estate, never out in the world, so sheโs tough to get to. But Bruceโฆ heโs another story.
โNo matter how strong he is, he canโt fight everyone. If something happens to him, you wonโt just stand by and do nothing.โ
Molly bit her lip, then let out a soft, bitter laugh. โSo itโs my fault that Roy ended up like this.โ
If not for Roy, it would have been her who disappeared two years ago.
Shermaine comforted her gently, โRoy loves you. Heโs willing to do anything for you. You donโt owe him anything.โ
It was a kind sentiment, but Molly still couldnโt shake the feeling of guilt. Roy had sacrificed everything for her, even his life.
As Shermaine drove away, they ended their call.
Roy had spent the whole morning out, but he came back just in time. He walked in to find Molly standing on the balcony, her demeanor clearly off.
He hadnโt expected a short trip would leave her like this.
Roy padded up to her, his tail sweeping behind him like it was the softest part of him.
Molly felt the familiar tingle in her legs as she saw him come back, and she put out her cigarette, kneeling down.
Roy nuzzled her gently, as if trying to offer comfort.
Molly sighed softly, โI miss you again, Roy.โ
Royโs tail flicked, a jolt of surprise rushing through him. He knew she wasnโt speaking to the wolf.
A wave of longing hit Roy, both sweet and painful.
He didnโt know how to respond. The comfort she wanted wasnโt something he could offer right now.
And just like that, Roy found himself feeling more frustrated than ever.
Two days later, Shermaine reached out to Molly, asking her to come over. She mentioned she needed Molly to accompany her to a place.
Molly agreed but was a bit surprised when Shermaine told her not to bring the wolf along.
She thought it might be because the wolf had some bad history with Shermaine. After all, the wolf was only ever nice to her. Heโd been pretty vicious with everyone else.
So, that morning, she left without Roy.
Roy, being his clingy self, wasnโt too thrilled. He howled and whined for what felt like hours.
Molly didnโt cave in, figuring sheโd make it up to him when she came back.
When she met Shermaine at the lab, she was led to a sleek, high-tech aircraft sheโd never seen before. It was an unmanned plane.
Molly didnโt ask too many questions about traveling to another world, but it was clear that this place had technology far beyond Earthโs.
Before long, they arrived in Spaunia, a war-torn country.
The place was battered and broken, like it had just finished a brutal war. The air was thick with the metallic stench of blood.
โWhat are we doing here?โ Molly asked, looking around.
After Shermaine gave her a short explanation, Molly frowned. โAre they insane?โ
Shermaine shrugged. โSome people will do anything to get stronger. They have no boundaries.โ
Greed ran so deep in some that they couldnโt even understand when to stop.
As they walked through the streets, the crowds thinned. Ahead, the area was more desolate, a dangerous zone controlled by armed militants.
Molly and Shermaine were both stunningly beautiful, and in a place like this, their presence didnโt go unnoticed.
A group of men quickly stopped them, but Shermaine wasnโt in the mood for small talk. She shoved her gun into one manโs face. โWhereโs Loff?โ she demanded.
Loff Arden was their leader.
As if on cue, one of the men tried to sneak up from behind. But Molly was quicker. She spun around, kicked him with precision, and sent him flying. Without missing a beat, she pulled out a knife, throwing it at his foot. โStay put,โ she snapped.
These werenโt just ordinary women. They were dangerous.
The man, now their captive, led them up the building. The higher they went, the louder the screams got.
It was clear that Loff was using people for experiments, but his efforts werenโt going well. One of his victims lay unconscious on the floor, evidence of a failed test.
The whole situation was sickening. These people were using innocent lives as lab rats.
When Loff saw Shermaine and Molly enter with one of his men in tow, he didnโt seem fazed. But then, as he saw two women as beautiful as them, his expression turned less than respectful.
โTwo gorgeous ladies, what can I do for you?โ Loff asked, clearly enjoying the attention.
Shermaine tossed the man aside, no longer needing him, and smirked. โChange. Let her see your real form.โ
Molly couldnโt help but laugh. โIf youโre ugly, Iโm not even looking.โ
Loff froze for a second, clearly stung by her words.
