Chapter 322
At the sight of Shermaine, Jameson instantly frowned. Whenever she squared off against him, trouble was sure to follow.
He couldnโt let her wreck the good thing heโd planned for Jason. Heโd checked with Jason. The crew theyโd hired hadnโt been caught. Theyโd fled after the earthquake, so no one knew their plan. Shermaine had no leverage there.
Jameson looked pissed but forced himself to hold it in. โWhat are you doing here?โ
โJust came to watch you fix up a nice marriage for your precious son.โ Shermaine walked in and took a seat beside Tim.
Jameson seethed but didnโt dare show it.
Tim greeted Shermaine warmly. โSheary, long time no see.โ When he came to Basterel, heโd wanted to meet her for a meal, but she was swamped, and he was tied up with business. Theyโd never found the time.
โLong time no see, Mr. Shelly,โ Shermaine replied.
โWhen was our last meetup?โ Tim asked.
Shermaine had a steel trap memory. โTwo years back at Sterling University.โ
Tim snapped his fingers. โRight. You were teaching a masterโs class. I tagged along with Danielle. Even then, I thought you were a Wallington pride, becoming a prodigy professor at Sterling so young.โ
Shermaine smiled. Being a Sterling professor was just one gig. She had appointments at other top schools too. โYou flatter me, Mr. Shelly. Just standard stuff.โ
Tim boomed with laughter.
From anyone else, that might sound cocky. But from Shermaine, it felt totally natural. Like she said, just standard stuff.
Their chitchat left Jameson and Jason gaping.
โWhat the hell is Tim talking about? Shermaine, a Sterling University professor? That couldnโt be. How old is she anyway?โ Jameson and Jason wondered.
Jameson had assumed Shermaineโd only gotten close to Danielle and even celebrities like Trance abroad by using her looks and schemes. But the reality was the exact opposite.
Shermaine wasnโt just a tech world legend. She was also a professor at a top foreign university. How many people her age could claim that?
In Jamesonโs 50-plus years, heโd never seen anyone elseโs daughter this brilliant. Even his pride and joy, Jason, looked ordinary next to her.
Jameson had to admit that Shermaine was amazingโmore than he could have imagined. But none of that mattered to him now.
By now, Jameson felt a flicker of regret, though heโd been lying to himself all along. โItโs okay,โ he kept reassuring himself.
โNo matter how talented she is, she isnโt a man.' That thought comforted him.
Tim steered the conversation back on track. โSheary, when you said earlier that Jason wasnโt Danielleโs saviorโฆโ
โExactly. Danielleโs real hero is my brother Ross.โ Shermaine replied calmly with a smile.
Jameson snapped back, โShermaine, even if youโre defending Ross, you canโt spout bullshit. Jason saved Danielle, clear and simple. How can you let Ross steal his credit? Youโre being completely irrational, Shermaine.โ
But if anyone was spouting nonsense, Jameson took the prize.
