Chapter 272
Jameson couldnโt bring himself to deny Natalieโs assumption. Better let her think that than admit this humiliating truth.
Natalie gripped her phone tightly when he didnโt respond. She thought, โThat damn Janice! She hides Ruth just to stop me from marrying Jameson.โ
But Natalieโs anger eased slightly when she remembered the 15% stake in Jean Group now in her hands.
She said, โLooks like the divorce is on hold for now. Jamie, didnโt you always want to strip Ross of his power and remove him as CEO? This is the perfect chance.โ
โI have my plans,โ Jameson replied. โCome to the company tomorrow.โ After all, those shares were still in Natalieโs hands.
โFine.โ Natalieโs anticipation simmered.
That evening, Joshua went to the Jean residence.
Shermaine had no plans to return to school that evening, so Joshua came to see her and stayed the night.
Still grieving over Ruthโs death, Shermaine stepped out of the bathroom and saw Joshua sitting on the sofa, flipping through a book.
With his head bowed, the lamplight caught the sharp angles of his faceโhis long lashes casting faint shadows, his glasses lending him an air of restrained temptation.
Hearing her footsteps, Joshua glanced up and set the book aside. โStill feeling down?โ
โIโll manage.โ Shermaine wasnโt drowning in grief, but the pain of Ruthโs death and Jamesonโs heartlessness still gnawed at her. As for Madelineโs family, she wanted them to suffer.
Joshua studied her for a moment before offering softly, โNeed a hug, Sheary?โ
Without another word, Shermaine walked over and sat sideways on his lap.
Joshua tightened his embrace, breathing in her sweet scent. It sent shivers through him.
Though Septemberโs heat lingered, the air-conditioned room kept them cool. Nestled against Joshua, Shermaine grew drowsy, but the sound of Jamesonโs car jolted her awake. She knew exactly where he was going. She thought, โWhat an ultimate piece of trash.โ
Fiddling with Joshuaโs tie, Shermaine fixed him with a suddenly sharp gaze. โJoshua.โ
โHmm?โ Joshua looked at her, attentive as always.
โIf you ever betray me, Iโll break your limbs, gouge out your eyes, and keep you prisoner on that island until you beg for death,โ Shermaine said seriously.
Joshua didnโt flinch. Instead, he pressed a kiss on her palm. โI wonโt.โ The world was full of scumbags, but he would sooner carve out his own heart than betray her. His body and soul were hers forever.
Shermaine believed him. And what she had just said wasnโt a joke either. If that day ever came, she would carry out her threat without hesitation.
A shiver ran from her palm to her chest as Joshuaโs lips grazed her skin.
โSheary,โ Joshua murmured between kisses. โMen like Jameson exist, but Iโm not one of them. Never.โ
Shermaine nodded. โI believe you.โ
After kissing her palm once more, Joshua seemed almost greedyโkissing down each finger as if one promise could never be enough.
