Chapter 217

Shermaine looked up. โ€œWhoโ€™s joking?โ€ She didnโ€™t have time to waste on Kylieโ€™s nonsense.

The smile on Kylieโ€™s face faltered slightly, though she still carried herself like a princess, her back ramrod straight. โ€œAre you upset with me, Shermaine?!โ€ Kylie put on an air of innocence. โ€œIโ€™m sorry. I didnโ€™t mean to question you.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ Shermaine said smoothly. โ€œIโ€™m always generous when dealing with people who donโ€™t matter.โ€

Kylieโ€™s smile grew strained. She quickly turned to Clyde. โ€œIf you need a recommendation letter, just let me know. Hereโ€™s my card.โ€ She pulled a business card from her purse with her email and international phone number printed on it.

Andrew thought the card might be useful and tried to signal Clyde to take it. But for once, Clyde actually made a smart move.

Clyde politely declined. โ€œThanks for the offer, Kylie, but Iโ€™ve already decided. Iโ€™m going to repeat my senior year and apply to universities here in the Republic of Wallington.โ€

Andrew couldnโ€™t help thinking, โ€˜And she says she wasnโ€™t questioning Shermaine? She clearly was, then acted all self-righteous about denying it.โ€

Andrewโ€™s face was a mess of frustration. โ€˜Didnโ€™t Clyde used to hate Shermaine? Now heโ€™s hanging on her every word. If he blows this chance, Kylie wonโ€™t give him the time of day later.โ€™

Kylie shrugged and gracefully tucked her business card back into her purse. โ€œBest of luck with your future.โ€

โ€œThanks.โ€

Fortunately, the York family didnโ€™t seem to pay them much attention. Joshua was completely focused on Shermaine, constantly adding food to her plate. โ€œYou said you were hungry. Eat up.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t eat bell peppers.โ€

Joshua immediately transferred the peppers to his own bowl. Theyโ€™d lived together and shared plenty of meals, but peppers had never been on the menu. He hadnโ€™t known.

โ€œWhat else donโ€™t you eat?โ€

โ€œOnions.โ€

โ€œMe neither.โ€

Sure, onions smelled great, but the taste was way too strong. Neither Shermaine nor Joshua could stand them. Having one bite, and theyโ€™d taste nothing but onions for the rest of the day, like their whole digestive system had been hijacked by that single flavor.

Joshua knew exactly what Shermaine liked to eat. She loved tomatoes, and when it came to fruit, cherries were her favorite.

Sarahโ€™s face twisted with displeasure. โ€œYou Jeans really know how to undermine people. Now we look like weโ€™re sticking our noses where they donโ€™t belong.โ€

But nobody paid her any attention.

Owen couldnโ€™t be bothered to acknowledge Sarahโ€™s presence. The fact that he hadnโ€™t thrown her out already was generous enough.

โ€˜She has the nerve to look down on Shermaine?โ€™ he thought. โ€˜Where does Sarah get off acting like that? Once this partyโ€™s over, Iโ€™m shipping her back overseas.

โ€˜Iโ€™m sick of her parading around here like she owns the place. And Kylieโ€“acting all high and mighty around us. Where the hell does her sense of superiority come from?โ€™

Chapter 217.1

Andrew kept his mouth shut and lowered his head awkwardly. He knew heโ€™d picked the worst possible moment to bring that up.

โ€œGrandma, Iโ€™m sure Shermaine will have no problem getting recommendation letters from prestigious schools to help Clyde get into any university,โ€ Kylie said.

Janice had never liked Sarah, not even when they were younger. Back then, sheโ€™d found Sarah loud and unreasonable, acting like the whole world revolved around her. After Sarahโ€™s affair, Janiceโ€™s opinion had only gotten worse; the woman was simply trash.

Sarahโ€™s ex-husband had treated her like a queen, catering to her every whim, worshipping the ground she walked on. And what he had gotten in return was betrayal.

Janice let out a dismissive laugh. โ€œOf course, she will. Shermaine spent years abroad. Sheโ€™s close friends with Trance and that famous artist Oliver. Her senior from school graduated from Sterling University with top honors. Getting a recommendation letter from a prestigious school? Please, thatโ€™s childโ€™s play."
