Chapter 148
Sleeping on the floor was indeed a bit of an indignity for a wealthy and influential young man like Joshua. But Shermaine replied without hesitation, โNo way.โ
She didnโt have the habit of sharing a bed with anyone. Moreover, she was only giving him a chance to redeem himself; she wasnโt about to offer him the privilege of half her bed.
โMr. York is really shameless, able to say something so outrageous,โ she thought.
Anticipating her response, Joshua smiled. โSheary, donโt you want to learn Mysonnian?โ he said, implying something more. โItโs not very convenient to teach you while Iโm on the floor.โ
Shermaine paused, then replied, โIโm not learning tonight.โ
The place was too remote and backward; her laptop and phone couldnโt get any signal. Otherwise, she could have learned online and wouldnโt have to rely on this cunning man in front of her.
โSheโs not learning? What a pity,โ Joshua thought. He wasnโt really disappointed, but he made up his mind to keep trying.
โGoodnight, Sheary,โ Joshua said. His voice was very sexy in the darkness.
Shermaine found Joshua a bit annoying and pulled the blanket higher up, but she replied politely, โGoodnight.โ
But the night was still young; it was just past nine oโclock.
Maybe it was the hard bed with only a thin blanket for padding, which was too uncomfortable. Shermaine couldnโt get used to it and had no sleepiness at all.
She could hear Joshuaโs low, steady breathing from the lower left side of the bed, rhythmic and calm. However, she was becoming more and more alert.
Listening to this breathing pattern, Joshua wasnโt asleep either. But he was very quiet, not even turning over.
โThis is the third time sheโs turned over,โ he thought. Joshua heard it clearly. โIt looks like I have a chance to get into bed tonight.โ
Joshua didnโt mind sleeping on the floor. Before he was discharged, he had endured much worse conditions.
After about twenty minutes, Shermaine still couldnโt fall asleep. She gave up. Instead of wasting time, she might as well use it to learn some Mysonnian.
The bed was quite wide; it could easily accommodate two people. Moreover, she wasnโt sharing a blanket with Joshua. After some consideration, she said, โCome up and teach me.โ
Joshua quickly replied, โOkay.โ
He picked up his blanket and lay down on Shermaineโs left side. Joshua casually turned to his side, as if he could see Shermaineโs silhouette through the darkness.
โSheary, youโre so nice,โ Joshua murmured, his tone tinged with amusement.
โLetโs start the lesson,โ Shermaine said.
โOkay.โ Joshua began his Mysonnian lesson.
Learning Mysonnian wasnโt difficult, especially for someone as intelligent as Shermaine, who naturally picked things up quickly.
Time passed. Shermaine had already grasped the basics and could converse with Joshua in Mysonnian. Plus, she was starting to feel sleepy. With one last turn, she fell into a deep sleep.
As dawn began to break, Shermaine was groggy and on the verge of waking up. She turned over and vaguely felt a lump beside her, but she didnโt realize it.
Instinctively, she kicked out, with enough force to send someone flying out of bed.
After Shermaine moved, Joshua opened his eyes. His beautiful, narrow eyes showed no sign of sleep, meaning he had probably been awake for a while.
He hadnโt expected Shermaine to kick upon waking, but a faint smile flickered in his eyes. He reached out from under the blanket and caught Shermaineโs kick.
His pants were rolled up to his knees, revealing her calf. Joshua held her foot, his fingertips circling the protruding bone on her ankle twice. โGood morning, Sheary.โ
Shermaine felt Joshuaโs touch and curled her toes, feeling a bit sensitive. She was now fully awake and tried to pull her foot back, but Joshuaโs grip was too tight.
Shermaine pursed her lips. โLet go.โ
โSheary, you asked me to come up here last night,โ he said.
โI know,โ Shermaine replied, realizing her earlier action had been subconscious.
Joshua looked at her, his voice slow. โIf I hadnโt woken up earlier than you, I would have been kicked out of bed.โ
โBut you werenโt kicked out of bed, were you?โ she thought.
Shermaine felt certain that Joshua was trying to get something out of her again. Since they had arrived in Mysonna, she had already given him quite a few favors. She wouldnโt let him take advantage of her generosity like this.
Without another word, she kicked out with her other foot as well.
