Chapter 121
She continued, "How about this? You and Mr. York form one team, and Iโll partner with Mr. Wright. Weโll have a pairs race, and the first team to reach the finish line wins.โ
Shermaine shot her a knowing glance and smiled. โSince itโs a competition, there should be a prize, right?โ
Olivia was taken aback and instinctively turned to Kingston.
It was obvious that in their relationship, Kingston was the one calling the shots.
Kingstonโs eyes flickered. โYou make a fair point. The losing team hands over the most valuable gift theyโve received recently to the winners. How about it?โ
Henry raised an eyebrow. โTheyโre really going all out?โ he wondered, glancing at Joshua, who showed no intention of stepping in. Wasnโt he worried Shermaine might get screwed by Kingston? From what Henry knew, that two-faced guy was a master of dirty tricks.
Spotting a golden opportunity, Shermaine grinned and licked her lips. She then looked up at Joshua. With a playful glint in her eyes, she asked, โWanna play for keeps?โ
Joshua lowered his gaze slightly. Amidst the icy mountain landscape, his eyes held a subtle warmth. He said softly, โItโs up to you, Sheary.โ
For the first time, Joshua called her โSheary.โ
His voice was irresistibly pleasant and magnetic. For such an unattainable man, there was actually a note of tender affection in his tone.
It felt a bit strange hearing Joshua call her โSheary,โ but she had to admit that it sounded unexpectedly sweet.
โThen itโs my call.โ
โOkay,โ said Joshua.
Shermaine curled her lips into a pleased smile, turned to Kingston, and asked playfully, โIf our most valuable gifts arenโt of equal value, how would you handle it?โ
Kingston said casually, โThen weโll make up the difference in cash.โ
Shermaine nodded, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. โNot a bad idea. Why donโt you start us off, Mr. Wright? Tell us, whatโs the most valuable gift youโve received recently?โ
Kingston had never seen Joshua indulge any woman like this. Shermaine was the first. Anyone with eyes could tell he was into her.
โUnbelievable,โ Kingston thought. โHow could the aloof and restrained Joshua York lower his standards and become infatuated with just one woman?โ
Shermaine was nothing but a pretty face. What made her so special that Joshua treated her differently?
Kingston subtly clenched his fist and said, โRecently, my father gifted me a luxury mansion worth over 1.5 billion dollars.โ
With that, Henry clapped and teased, โSuch generosity, Mr. Wright. Not afraid to lose it all, are you?โ He recalled that solo match the other night, when Shermaine utterly dominated Roy, the worldโs best jungler.
Now, he couldnโt wait to see Shermaine work her magic and win that mansion just so this arrogant Kingston could finally see what a real pro looks like.
Kingston retorted with a smirk, โYou gotta give to get, right?โ
Now, Shermaine was determined to win that luxurious mansion.
She narrowed her eyes and said, โJust recently, Joshua gifted me a supercar worth more than 600 million dollars.โ
Henry teased, โCome on, Mr. York. Only 600 million? Thatโs a bit tightfisted, donโt you think?โ
โTrue, I was being thoughtless,โ Joshua replied calmly. For someone of his status, that car was indeed unworthy. If he had known earlier, he would have prepared something far more fitting for Shermaine.
He resolved to make it up to her with something truly exceptional for her birthday next year.
โHenry was just teasing. Why take it so seriously?โ To Shermaine, given their relationship at the time, Joshuaโs supercar was already incredibly generous. She didnโt have enough money to buy him a similar gift yet. But she would soon.
โBecause I want to give you something even better,โ Joshua thought, his gaze burning as it lingered on Shermaine. He paused, then ultimately held back the words.
Kingston interjected calmly, โWell, if we win, Ms. Shue, youโll have to make up the one billion difference. But if you win, my mansion will be yours.โ
Shermaine nodded with a smile. โIโve got it on record as proof,โ she said, just in case Kingston tried to renege. โAny official rules?โ
Kingston announced, โBoth teammates must cross the finish line for the team to win.โ
Shermaine pressed, โAnything else?โ
Kingston shrugged. โPlay it however you want.โ
Henry volunteered. โAlright then, Iโll be the referee. We start in five minutes.โ
