Chapter 65

Hearing Elias’s words, Lukas recalled the gift I’d given him the previous night. He used the opportunity to tease me, which seemed to anger me slightly. However, I'd always been adept at controlling my emotions. Even during Hugo’s betrayal, I remained calm and retaliated effectively. Last night, my expression was, at most, a bit cold.

He glanced at Elias and said, “Things aren’t as they seem. Also, in the future, let’s pretend we don’t know about the marriage between us, and don’t interfere in our affairs. Don’t spread nonsense when you’re out.”

After speaking, Lukas entered the elevator. Elias frowned, watching the closing doors before helplessly shrugging. “Alright, whatever you say.”

In the hospital room, I hadn’t noticed Lukas’s change in expression. However, Ava, who was facing me, noticed everything clearly. After Anthony offered Ava a few words of concern and exchanged contact information with me, he left.

As soon as he left, Ava couldn’t help but ask, “Sophia, did you offend Lukas? His face looked particularly bad just now.”

My eyes flickered, and I shook my head. “What kind of identity do I have? How could I offend him?”

Ava frowned. “But you two are married. And you sounded so close to Anthony when you introduced him. If I were you, I’d definitely feel uncomfortable.”

I glanced at Ava. “Is that so? Maybe it’s just your perspective. You don’t understand.”

I couldn’t help but recount last night’s incident with the cufflinks.

Ava was dumbfounded, a hint of sarcasm on her usually cold face. She chuckled. “He’s really a narcissist, thinking he’s some kind of treasure. He probably doesn’t know that while we were at Mediopolis University, so many people pursued you they could have held hands and circled Mediopolis three times.”

Unspoken Farewell at 30,000 Feet

Hearing Ava’s words, I laughed. “He’d probably reply that the women pursuing him could circle the Earth three times.”

Ava’s mouth twitched. “He’s probably living in a fantasy.”

I burst into laughter, imagining Lukas’s stern face with a “Harem King” label above it. The imagery was too amusing.

Seeing my good mood, Ava continued, “After all that last night, he didn’t give you any face. What a coincidence meeting him at the hospital after leaving the company. It’s like you’re destined enemies.”

I smiled, a hint of pride in my eyes. “Since the world is so small, encountering enemies is normal. I’ll just block him and leave him no escape.” My aura has always been impressive.

Ava’s cold face softened into a faint smile. “If we’re talking strength, my Soph is the strongest.” She glanced at me, her tone unnatural. “By the way, Sophia, when is Cole coming over?”

I looked at her impatiently. “Just wait, I’ll call him now.”

Ava said, “Ah, you haven’t called him yet?”

I had nothing to say. To avoid bothering her further, I grabbed my phone and went outside.

The hospital room door opened again. Ava lazily raised her head and saw Elias’s playful face. “Little sister, hospitalized?”

Ava snorted. “Who’s your little sister?”

Elias smiled and sat by the bedside. “Don’t say that. After all, we both have determination in adversity. Give me some face.”

Ava didn’t even glance at him. “Face is earned, not given.”

Seeing her imperviousness, Elias recalled her appearance the previous night outside the private room—like a little white rabbit. He couldn’t help but smile. “Then I won’t worry about face. Look, we both broke our arms and are in the same hospital, even adjacent rooms. This must be fate.”

Ava finally glanced at him. “Such fate, I’d rather throw away.”

As Ava finished speaking, I opened the door and entered. Seeing me, Elias recalled Lukas’s words, his eyes flickering, but he remained silent.

I spoke first. “Mr. Schmidt, you should return to your room. Ava is a patient and needs rest.”

Elias raised an eyebrow, seemingly indifferent. “I’m a patient too.”

My mouth twitched. “Then all the more reason for you to rest.”

Remembering my attitude toward Lukas, Elias felt uncomfortable. Instead of responding to me, he looked at Ava. “Ava, do you think I need to rest?”

Ava looked coldly at him. “Patients need to rest.”

Elias burst into laughter, his gaze fixed on Ava’s delicate face. “What are you afraid of? We can have fun. Resting too much is boring.”

Ava was taken aback, her lips curving slightly. Elias’s mind went blank for a moment, as if dazzled by brilliant fireworks, leaving him momentarily dazed. He stared blankly at Ava. “You look really beautiful when you smile.”
