Chapter 565
โWhat time do you get off work tomorrow?โ Alexander asked again.
Elizabeth had had enough. She stomped on his foot. But he was ready for it and pulled his left foot back. Her foot hit nothing but air, and she sneered. โYou say you want to pursue me, but you canโt even take a stomp?โ
Alexander lowered his eyes and spoke softly, โElizabeth, donโt talk that way. If you need to, just hit me.โ
โLet go of me. Stop bothering me; itโs pointless.โ Elizabethโs voice shook. It was too dark here, and she felt too anxious.
Alexander noticed the tremor in her voice. His grip on her wrist loosened a bit. โScared?โ he asked.
Elizabeth looked down, saying nothing. โElizabeth, youโre afraid even when Iโm right here? You think Iโll hurt you?โ he asked. She should know he wouldnโt hurt her, but her silence hurt him. What had he done in these three years to make the person who once trusted him the most now fear him? Alexander instinctively reached to hug her.
Suddenly, the corridor lights flicked on. They were dim, but enough to see their faces clearly.
โElizabeth,โ Ivanโs voice came from the end of the corridor. Both Elizabeth and Alexander turned to look. Ivan frowned, his lips moving slightly.
Elizabeth and Alexander were very close. Her breathing was a bit erratic, and Alexander had just been about to hug her. Their actions were ambiguous, making it hard not to overthink. Seeing Ivan, Elizabeth tried to push Alexander away and said lightly, โIvan.โ But she couldnโt push him away at all.
Instead, Alexander moved even closer to her. Ivanโs eyes darkened. Alexander was clearly marking his territory.
โItโs nothing. I just noticed you werenโt in the hall and was worried something might have happened to you, so I came to check. Elizabeth, are you okay?โ Ivan asked politely.
Alexander chuckled, his eyes dark, โSheโs with me. What could possibly happen?โ
Ivan responded softly, โAlexander, itโs precisely because Elizabeth is with you that Iโm worried.โ
Alexanderโs eyes darkened further. Ivan was clearly intent on opposing him.
โIvan, youโd better stay out of this,โ said Alexander.
โAlexander, weโre both pursuing Elizabeth. In the end, itโs her choice who she picks. Donโt you think?โ Ivan said.
Their eyes locked. Though they stood apart, a spark ignited between them: the spark was so intense that it was about to burn Elizabeth.
Elizabeth really couldnโt stand it anymore. โDid either of you get my permission for this?โ she demanded. Did they ever consider that I might not choose either of them? Elizabeth thought. She wasnโt so worthless that she had to choose her ex-husband or pick her next partner from his friends!
Elizabeth decisively pushed Alexander away, lifted her skirt, and walked out. โIโm leaving. You two can argue all you want,โ Elizabeth said. She was really angry. While they argued, she felt completely disrespected, especially by Alexander. She had made it clear to him numerous times that it was done, yet Alexander appeared to brush it off.
โElizabeth, Iโll take you home!โ Ivan tried to catch up. But Alexander followed too.
