Chapter 439

Alexander was eyeballing her like she was about to spill the juiciest gossip ever. What was she gonna say? Elizabeth could tell she had Alexander hooked. Tonight was the perfect time to lay it all out, because after tonight, theyโ€™d be on totally different tracks.

Elizabeth bit her lip, took a tiny step closer, locked eyes with Alexander, and started, โ€œThat year you wereโ€ฆ achoo!โ€

Right when she was about to drop the bomb, she sneezed out of nowhere. Elizabeth sniffled and rubbed her arm. It wasnโ€™t even cold.

โ€œCold?โ€ Alexander asked, already shrugging off his jacket.

Elizabeth glanced up, shook her head fast, and waved him off. She wasnโ€™t cold. Elizabeth was about to pick up where she left off. Then they heard a snarky voice from the side, โ€œShe said no, so no jacket. Dude, being too direct isnโ€™t always good.โ€

The words were dripping with sarcasm. Elizabeth and Alexander turned to look. There was another guy on a nearby bench, someone they knew. Who else but Kyle?

โ€œKyle, what are you doing here?โ€ Elizabeth asked, totally surprised.

โ€œI followed you. Itโ€™s late; canโ€™t let you walk home alone,โ€ Kyle said, crossing his arms.

Alexanderโ€™s brow furrowed, thinking, Are they that close? Have they been hanging out?

โ€œWhat does it matter? I used to go home alone late at night all the time,โ€ Elizabeth said, checking the time on her phone.

Alexander looked at her, thinking, Whatโ€™s she getting at? Complaining to another guy in front of me? Have I let her go home alone before?

โ€œYeah, in a crappy marriage, you definitely go home alone.โ€ Kyle walked over, standing in front of them, chuckling.

Alexander squinted, more sure than ever that Kyle was gunning for him.

โ€œWhen did it become your business to comment on our marriage?โ€ Alexander adjusted his clothes, his face cold as ice.

Kyle smirked. โ€œArenโ€™t there already plenty of people talking about your marriage?โ€

โ€œPlenty. But doing it to my face is your mistake,โ€ Alexander locked eyes with Kyle, his gaze fierce.

Kyle was about to retort. Alexander cut him off, โ€œOh, by the way, got some bad news for you.โ€

Kyle frowned, and Alexander said calmly, โ€œYour shipment got sent back, and mineโ€™s already here.โ€

Kyleโ€™s calm facade cracked. Elizabeth realized from their conversation that these two had some serious history.

โ€œYouโ€™re such a jerk,โ€ Kyle spat through gritted teeth.

Alexander shrugged. โ€œCould be worse.โ€

In the business world, you gotta be a bit of a jerk to survive. He slowly walked over to Kyle, flicking imaginary dust off his shoulder. The contempt in his eyes was brutal. Alexander spoke coolly, โ€œIf you wanna make it in Lisbun, you gotta play by my rules.โ€

Alexander thought, Trying to mess with me? Not a chance. If Kyle wants to keep coming at me, bring it on. Letโ€™s see who comes out on top!

โ€œMr. Tudor, you really put your career above everything else. Is there really nothing or no one in this world you care about?โ€ Kyle pushed Alexanderโ€™s hand away, his tone challenging.
