Chapter 25

โ€œThe Stewart family is visiting for the first time, Elizabeth, why are you wearing that?!โ€

โ€œEllie, we need more fruit. Get on it!โ€

โ€œElizabeth, hurry up! Those jeans are awful. Put on a skirt!โ€

Rose was all over the place, and Elizabethโ€™s white tee and jeans were a problem.

โ€œListen to your mom,โ€ Declan nudged Elizabeth, hinting she should change. Her outfit was totally wrong for the occasion.

Elizabeth stood in front of the mirror, pouting at her reflection. She thought she looked awesome; with her figure, anything looked good!

Just as she was about to head upstairs to change, someone outside called, โ€œMrs. Percy, the Stewarts are here!โ€

Rose grabbed Elizabethโ€™s arm. โ€œDonโ€™t change. Theyโ€™re here.โ€

Elizabeth got dragged outside by Rose, feeling helpless. Her parents were way too nervous; they never acted like this with guests before. The Stewartsโ€™ visit seemed to mean something different this time.

Do they think Joseph and I hit it off yesterday, and now theyโ€™re here to propose? she wondered.

โ€œMom, theyโ€™re just here to thank me for saving their lives,โ€ Elizabeth reminded Rose.

โ€œThatโ€™s just an excuse, silly girl!โ€ Rose glared at her.

โ€œMom, seriously, theyโ€™re just here to thank me,โ€ Elizabeth insisted.

Rose, too tired to argue, said as she opened the door, โ€œThatโ€™s just an excuse; Joseph likes you!โ€

The door swung open. Joseph and Landon stood tall at the entrance. Behind them, their butler and two assistants held gifts.

โ€œLandon!โ€ Declan stepped forward, hugging Landon.

Elizabeth nodded at Joseph. โ€œMr. Joseph Stewart.โ€

Joseph, eyeing Elizabeth, was impressed. โ€œYour outfitโ€™s different today.โ€

Usually, Elizabeth wore formal dresses and skirts. Today, she looked like a college studentโ€”clean and pure.

โ€œMom, look! Mr. Stewart likes my outfit!โ€ Elizabeth boasted to Rose.

Rose sighed, eyeing Landon. โ€œCanโ€™t you tell heโ€™s just being polite?โ€

โ€œMrs. Percy, itโ€™s not just politeness. I genuinely think Ms. Percy looks lovely, and it suits her. Clothes should be comfortable, right?โ€ Joseph said, smiling.

Rose couldnโ€™t help but smile back. Quite the charmer, she thought.

โ€œAlright, come on in!โ€ Rose gestured inside.

Declan ushered Landon in, with him following. Elizabeth walked beside Joseph, smiling.

Joseph raised an eyebrow. โ€œNo problem.โ€

โ€œDeclan, sorry for dropping by unannounced,โ€ Landon said, a bit sheepish. โ€œElizabeth saved my life at the banquet a few days ago. Had to come and say thanks.โ€

Their butler and assistants set down the gifts and left.

โ€œLandon, youโ€™re too kind,โ€ Declan said, giving Landon a friendly pat on the shoulder.

Elizabeth poured water for Landon and Joseph, then stood next to Rose.

โ€œLandon Stewart, like I told Mr. Joseph Stewart, it was no big deal. You really donโ€™t need to be so formal,โ€ Elizabeth said.

Landon pointed at Elizabeth. โ€œYouโ€™re something else! In that situation, you had the guts to act!โ€

Elizabeth knew he was talking about the pen incident.

โ€œSheโ€™s got guts,โ€ Declan said, with pride evident in his eyes as he glanced at Elizabeth.

โ€œBraveryโ€™s a good trait in a girl,โ€ Landon kept praising her.

โ€œWeโ€™ve reserved a private room for dinner tonight?โ€ Landon suggested.

Declan promptly responded. โ€œNo, youโ€™re the guest. I canโ€™t let you pay. Iโ€™ve already made arrangements!โ€

โ€œNo, no, I insist this time!โ€

โ€œWell, since we have some free time, how about a round of golf?โ€ Declan suddenly proposed.

Landon nodded right away. โ€œSounds awesome!โ€
