Chapter 94

Emilia knew that Barry usually didn’t care about social class, but that was because he already stood at the very top and didn’t really feel its impact. However, if someone truly crossed a line with him, he would still blow up. And when he was truly angry, no one dared provoke him further, just like now.

Emilia clenched her fists. She hated this feeling and silently vowed to make herself even more exceptional, to reach a point where no one would dare look down on her again. This mindset came from her high standards for herself. It was normal for friends to show each other a bad attitude once in a while. The reason she cared so much was that she was smart and could see the deeper meaning beneath it.

So really, there was no need to bother with Barry. In any case, Autumn was no match for her. If Barry had poor taste and insisted on lowering himself, that was his business. Emilia paid him no more mind and went off to practice. Right now, what she was most curious about was how things were going between Damien and Autumn.

Damien had a vague suspicion. Still, deep down, he didn’t really believe Autumn would deliberately go against him. After all, she had worked hard to please him and listen to whatever he told her to do for the past three years. So much so, he had long grown used to that dynamic between them.

Thus, he was utterly stunned when he arrived at the courts on the east side and saw Autumn darting left and right, struggling but determinedly returning the serves Dawson gave her. He had already told her to resign, and yet here she was, mingling with Dawson right under his nose. Had she lost her mind?

Damien’s expression instantly darkened, his eyes turning cold as ice. He locked his gaze on her.

Autumn was focused on the game. Her form was precise, and her movements were swift—clear signs of strong core strength. Tennis was already a visually appealing sport, but few could combine sheer power with elegance. Yet, it was a pleasure to watch Autumn move. That kind of skill had to come from solid foundational training.

What surprised Damien even more was that she played so much better than Emilia. Autumn had never once mentioned she could play tennis! Moreover, Dawson was actually patiently rallying with Autumn as her sparring partner? He—someone who had never shown the slightest regard for Damien or the entire Caldwell family? Autumn had her back to Damien, so she didn’t see him.

But Dawson did. Yet, his gaze barely lingered for a second before shifting away, as he continued feeding balls to Autumn. That was just how utterly dismissive he was, as if provoking Damien was nothing more than a habit.

Damien pressed his lips tightly together, the corners of his mouth sharply pulled down. His already grim expression grew even darker.

Soon, Rico also noticed him. He gave a glance at the two late arrivals and said pointedly, “Robin, Jamie, you two are just bad luck. Why do you always have to bring such troublesome people over to ruin the mood?” Hearing this, the two turned to look.

Damien stood rigidly outside the court, his eyes cold enough to kill. Robin, usually gentle in demeanor, felt an urge to whistle like a hooligan. It was just a tennis game, so why did it suddenly feel this exciting?

Meanwhile, Jamie looked over at Autumn with deep concern. With Damien playing tennis alongside Emilia, he couldn’t help but wonder if Autumn was feeling hurt. Divorced or not, the betrayal by a man she once loved had surely left a long, deep scar inside her, one still waiting to heal. And to make it worse, Damien kept reopening that wound. That was why Jamie resented seeing Damien appear in front of Autumn.

Della didn’t know the details of Autumn and Damien’s relationship. But as her gaze swept over each of their expressions, she quickly figured it out. The moment she thought about how low-key Autumn had always been, while Damien was now flaunting Emilia so publicly in social events—ha, what a scumbag.
