Damien's unhappiness was matched by Britney's anger, evident in the barrage of text messages she sent his way.
“Oh my! Damien, are you siding with your wife? Don’t like it when I tell you off? Once you marry Emilia, I suppose there’s no place for me in the Caldwell family!”
“Damon, if you’re going to be so biased, I’ll never acknowledge Emilia as my sister-in-law. I’ll even tell Grandpa about your dirty little secret with Emilia. You’ll be begging for his mercy. Hahaha! Damien, are you scared?”
Emilianocked Damien, massaging his temples. “What’s up?”
“I see. No wonder you’re so irritated. She’s quite playful at this age, so just go along with it.” Emilia comforted Damien gently.
Emilia’s words seemed to calm Damien slightly. He typed, “Stop fooling around and grow up. You can’t just goof off all day. And seriously, you need to rein in that temper. Did you forget what Grandpa told you?”
Britney was so angry that her mouth started twitching. “Damien, you really sound like a father now. Do all older men like lecturing people?”
“Remember when I framed Automat the Caldwell incidence? You were the only one at the table who knew what was going on. And yet, you still took my side, didn’t you?”
“I haven’t even said a thing about Emilia, and you’re already jumping to her defense. What if I actually do frame her one day? Are you going to call the police and have me arrested?”
“Yes, I have a bad temper. It’s not like I don’t know that. Did I ever claim I was easy to get along with? Even if I have a terrible personality, you can’t pin it all on me. You spoiled me and set a bad example.”
“And what do you mean I just goof around all day? I made money off investments, didn’t I? Others might think I’m useless, but I’m not stupid. Got it?”
Britney had grown up surrounded by wolves in sheep’s clothing. Everyone who approached her had their own hidden motives. If she had been slightly more naive, those people would have torn her apart.
Speechless, huh? Well, me too! Anything you say now is completely ridiculous. I don’t even feel like conversing with you anymore!”
Damien was, indeed, speechless. A few words from him had triggered a barrage of texts from Britney. She had clearly redirected her anger, meant for Autumn, onto him. Still fuming, Britney fired off another message.
“Damien, you’re already scolding me over Emilia. You never did that before. If you keep this up…”
Damien, resorting to his usual tactic, replied, “One million dollars.”
“Tell Grandpa about your dirty little secret.”
Britney exploded, “Damien! You usually drop at least ten million on Emilia’s clothes and jewelry! How could you treat me like this? You’re so cruel!”
Damien was getting extremely frustrated with Britney’s messages, but his relationship with Autumn was of a different kind. With Britney, he let her walk all over him, spoiling and indulging her. With Autumn, he kept a distance. Whenever she caused trouble, it became a nuisance for him. “How much do you want?”
Britney replied, “Five million dollars. I love you, Damien! You’re the best person in the world!”
Damien merely replied, “…”
That night, he worked until 2:00 am, finalizing the modeling project. Once finished, he emailed it to Olivia, adding a note, “The initial model training was decent, but testing performance was poor. I built a new model, removed irrelevant data, and refined the dataset. Follow this approach, and you can integrate a functional set.”
The next day was H-day. Even though she was still unwell, Autumn showed up on time and headed to the office. Around 11:00 am, Olivia called her, “Come on, you missed a lot of steps in your process. They don’t understand how it works.”
Autumn frowned. “Let me explain things clearly?”
Olivia couldn’t help but snap at Autumn’s casual way to MegaTerki. “That’s what you think, not what I think. TM”
