Chapter 395
Sometimes, a little genuine kindness can rekindle family bonds hidden beneath self-interest and profit. Sean arrived at Winifred's villa and rang the doorbell. Rowena, a top actress, answered.
"Who are you?" Rowena asked, her tone cool and wary. She wore a white spaghetti-strap nightgown, her every movement alluring. She eyed Sean suspiciously.
"My name's Sean Lecter. I'm looking for Winifred Hart. Does she live here?" Sean asked.
Rowena gave him another assessing look. "What do you want with her?"
Sean's mouth twitched. What's her deal with Winifred? Even if they're close, she's being overly nosy, he thought. "She saved my life a few days ago, and I came to thank her," Sean said.
"She's not here. Come back in a few days," Rowena said, slamming the door in his face.
Sean nearly got hit. He rubbed his nose, feeling embarrassed and annoyed, and walked away. Upstairs, Rowena watched him leave, then returned to the room.
"Winifred, I made you some soup. Try it," Rowena said, entering with a bowl. She couldn't take her eyes off Winifred, who sat on the bed in a black nightgown. Rowena sat beside her and felt her forehead. It no longer felt hot.
Rowena leaned down, touching their foreheads together. She felt coolness from Winifred's forehead. Just then, Winifred's eyes snapped open, and she grabbed Rowena's wrist, her gaze cold and piercing. When she realized it was Rowena, she loosened her grip. Rowena met her gaze and smiled slightly.
"Winifred, eat something before you go back to sleep," Rowena said.
Winifred sat up and touched her forehead; she'd had a fever the night before. But she felt the coolness radiating from Rowena.
"Did you take care of me last night?" Winifred asked.
Rowena nodded, her ears reddening as memories of the previous night flooded her mind.
"Yeah. Eat something firstโyou must be starving," Rowena said.
"Okay," Winifred said, reaching for the bowl.
But Rowena held up a spoon, bringing it to Winifred's lips. "Try it. I spent an hour making it," Rowena said.
Winifred opened her mouth and took a spoonfulโit was delicious.

"Do you like it?" Rowena asked, watching expectantly.
Winifred nodded. Rowena pretended not to notice, took a bite herself, and commented, "Honestly, it's not bad."
"Just a few bites left. Here, open up," Rowena coaxed, offering another spoonful. Rowena continued feeding her, and Winifred silently finished the soup. As Rowena put away the bowl, a comfortable silence settled over the room.
When Rowena returned, she saw Winifred trying to get out of bed and rushed to stop her. "You can't get up yet!"
Winifred sighed helplessly. "It's just a little fever. I still have things to handle."
Rowena firmly pushed her back onto the bed. "No! I know you're about to do something dangerous again. You're still injured. Why push yourself so hard? If it's about money, I have plenty nowโI can take care of you," Rowena said, her voice steady and resolute. She looked directly at Winifred, her expression serious and unwavering.
Winifred gently ran her fingers through Rowena's hair. "It's not about money, Rowena. This is something I have to handle myself, and these minor injuries are nothing. Anyway, don't you have a shoot today? Go on, or you'll be late."
A fleeting flicker of joyโalmost imperceptibleโcrossed Rowena's eyes. She released Winifred.
"My sugar mommy's sick. Why should I bother going?" Rowena teased, smiling playfully.
Winifred laughed. "Sugar mommy? I don't think I qualify."
Rowena looked at her intently. "Aren't you? Without you, I wouldn't have lasted a day in showbiz."
Winifred said nothing and looked down at her phone. "Did someone just come by looking for me?" she asked.
