Chapter 270
As the two boats drew closer, Evan Ashโs heart leapt into his throat, while Finn Eaton remained calm and collected. โMr. Eaton really lives up to his name,โ Evan thought to himself.
Finnโs men were forced to lower their weapons and waited respectfully. Evan, on the other hand, stayed on high alert. He thought, โIf those people make a move, we wouldnโt stand a chance. Even so, I will fight to the death to protect Mr. Eaton.โ
When Sienna Hart showed up wearing a mask, Finn frowned a little. Ye moved closer, taking up a protective stance beside him.
Finn tried to step forward, but Evan blocked him firmly. Finn just patted Evanโs shoulder, signaling for him to move aside.
Evan said earnestly, โMr. Eaton, let me protect you.โ
Finn tossed him aside and said with displeasure, โMiss Noir, you truly surprise me. Swapping out my things right under my nose โ is that what you really want?โ
Finn figured she definitely wasnโt after whatever he was holding; if she was, she wouldnโt have bothered to get rid of those people just to show up in front of him.
โI go out of my way to help you, Mr. Eaton, and now you start grilling me right off the bat. Is that how you treat someone who just did you a favor?โ Sienna teased.
Her voice wasnโt like usual. Normally, it was cold and distant, but now it was seductive and full of charm.
Finn lowered his gaze. โYouโre right. I should thank you, Miss Noir. Please, have a seat.โ
Sienna Hart sat down, her gaze landing on Finn. He was injured, a scrape marring his brow. At the sight, a barely noticeable chill flickered through her eyes.
โMiss Noir, Iโve heard youโre not one for beating around the bush. Just state your terms. I must retrieve those treasures.โ His voice remained gentle and magnetic, giving off a sense of aloofness that was hard to read.
Sienna glanced at the visibly nervous Evan and the utterly unruffled Finn, then smiled. โMr. Eaton, itโs simple. It all depends on whether youโre willing to sacrifice. Your things are already safely backโฆโ
โNo way!โ Evan shouted. โThey want to kill Mr. Eaton? As long as Iโm here, thereโs no way theyโll even touch him,โ he thought.
โYouโre not taking Mr. Eaton anywhere. If you want to get to him, youโll have to go through my body first!โ Evan clenched his fists, glaring at them.
Lana rolled her eyes. She thought this guy was far too noisy.
Finn frowned. โEvan, step aside.โ
Evan thought Finn was really planning to sacrifice himself. โMr. Eaton, I wonโt take a single step away from you,โ he insisted.
Sienna suddenly found Ye rather entertaining, feeling the urge to tease them a little.
โAs long as Mr. Eaton stays with me tonight, I can still safely escort you back.โ
Evan didnโt hesitate for a second โ he quickly stepped aside. โMr. Eaton, this is a golden opportunity! Go on, take one for the team!โ
In his opinion, Miss Noir was alluring, and definitely not someone ordinary. Just keep her company for one night and all of them would get her protection.
Finn thought, I mustโve been blind to ever agree to let him stay by my side.
โMiss Noir, I really donโt see the point of this joke,โ Finn said.
Lanaโs eyes went wide in disbelief as she stared at Sienna. Did someone possess her or something? Is she actually interested in Finn? she wondered.
To be fair, the guy was ridiculously good-looking, but Lana still felt he wasnโt worthy of Sienna. With that thought, she shot Finn a disdainful glance.
Sienna let out a soft, amused laugh. โMr. Eaton, are you really going to turn me down! What a pityโฆโ
A trace of awkwardness flashed across Finnโs face as he turned away. Why does she feel so familiar, yet I can never see through her? he wondered.
โMiss Noir, if you want anything on my boat, just take it. But give me back whatโs mine,โ Finn said.
Sienna shook her head and took off her mask, โFinn, youโre still just as dull and uptight as ever?โ
At the sound of that familiar voice, Finnโs head whipped around โ and there she was, Sienna Hart. Just like ten years ago, his heart started pounding wildly. That feeling heโd buried for a decade came crashing back.
Evan shouted in disbelief, โMr. Eaton, itโs her! If youโd just agreed to spend the night with her, you wouldโve gotten your wish. Ah, you stepped on my foot!โ
Finnโs heart thundered in his chest. A storm of emotions crashed over him โ regret, longing, and a bittersweet ache. If Iโd agreed just now, would she really have spent the night with me? he wondered.
But as soon as that thought surfaced, he immediately shut it down. He berated himself for being so indecent, because he knew full well she already had a family.
โSienna, are you Hazel Noir as well?โ Finn forced himself to calm down, even though his heart was pounding like crazy.
โYeah, thatโs me. Iโve already helped get your things delivered. I was just teasing you earlier, donโt take it to heart. Weโre BFF. There are still a lot of people, so let me take you back home.โ
Finn wondered, a pang of disappointment in his chest. Seriously, what am I even hoping for? What else could we possibly be if not friends? Am I really thinking about being the other guy here! Donโt even go there.
โThanks, Sienna. If you ever need anything in the future, just say the word โ Iโll do whatever it takes,โ Finn said, trying to keep his tone casual.
Sienna glanced at him, her eyes softening with a touch of warmth. โSure.โ
That familiar fragrance drifted again, and just two seconds of eye contact was enough to make his whole body heat up, every cell inside him practically burning.
Finn quickly averted his gaze, mumbling, โYouโre amazingโฆโ
Lana rolled her eyes behind them. Please, as if Miss Hart could be anything but amazing.
Evan was full of regret. He thought, Just a little more and those two couldโve totally gotten together.
Mr. Eaton never listens to me. Miss Hart is gorgeous. I wonder if sheโd ever want a pretty boy to keep around. Iโd sign up in a heartbeat.
Lana looked at Evan like he was a total downer.
โDamn it, Iโll never let go of these people,โ the middle-aged man grumbled, clearly pissed off.
โChill. There are still a bunch of people there. No way theyโre getting out of here alive,โ one of his men reassured him.
โAlert the men up ahead โ get ready for an ambush. We have to get the Eaton familyโs goods. This is a golden opportunity. We canโt let it slip by,โ the man ordered.
