Chapter 270

As the two boats drew closer, Evan Ashโ€™s heart leapt into his throat, while Finn Eaton remained calm and collected. โ€˜Mr. Eaton really lives up to his name,โ€™ Evan thought to himself.

Finnโ€™s men were forced to lower their weapons and waited respectfully. Evan, on the other hand, stayed on high alert. He thought, โ€œIf those people make a move, we wouldnโ€™t stand a chance. Even so, I will fight to the death to protect Mr. Eaton.โ€

When Sienna Hart showed up wearing a mask, Finn frowned a little. Ye moved closer, taking up a protective stance beside him.

Finn tried to step forward, but Evan blocked him firmly. Finn just patted Evanโ€™s shoulder, signaling for him to move aside.

Evan said earnestly, โ€œMr. Eaton, let me protect you.โ€

Finn tossed him aside and said with displeasure, โ€œMiss Noir, you truly surprise me. Swapping out my things right under my nose โ€“ is that what you really want?โ€

Finn figured she definitely wasnโ€™t after whatever he was holding; if she was, she wouldnโ€™t have bothered to get rid of those people just to show up in front of him.

โ€œI go out of my way to help you, Mr. Eaton, and now you start grilling me right off the bat. Is that how you treat someone who just did you a favor?โ€ Sienna teased.

Her voice wasnโ€™t like usual. Normally, it was cold and distant, but now it was seductive and full of charm.

Finn lowered his gaze. โ€œYouโ€™re right. I should thank you, Miss Noir. Please, have a seat.โ€

Sienna Hart sat down, her gaze landing on Finn. He was injured, a scrape marring his brow. At the sight, a barely noticeable chill flickered through her eyes.

โ€œMiss Noir, Iโ€™ve heard youโ€™re not one for beating around the bush. Just state your terms. I must retrieve those treasures.โ€ His voice remained gentle and magnetic, giving off a sense of aloofness that was hard to read.

Sienna glanced at the visibly nervous Evan and the utterly unruffled Finn, then smiled. โ€œMr. Eaton, itโ€™s simple. It all depends on whether youโ€™re willing to sacrifice. Your things are already safely backโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNo way!โ€ Evan shouted. โ€œThey want to kill Mr. Eaton? As long as Iโ€™m here, thereโ€™s no way theyโ€™ll even touch him,โ€ he thought.

โ€œYouโ€™re not taking Mr. Eaton anywhere. If you want to get to him, youโ€™ll have to go through my body first!โ€ Evan clenched his fists, glaring at them.

Lana rolled her eyes. She thought this guy was far too noisy.

Finn frowned. โ€œEvan, step aside.โ€

Evan thought Finn was really planning to sacrifice himself. โ€œMr. Eaton, I wonโ€™t take a single step away from you,โ€ he insisted.

Sienna suddenly found Ye rather entertaining, feeling the urge to tease them a little.

โ€œAs long as Mr. Eaton stays with me tonight, I can still safely escort you back.โ€

Evan didnโ€™t hesitate for a second โ€“ he quickly stepped aside. โ€œMr. Eaton, this is a golden opportunity! Go on, take one for the team!โ€

In his opinion, Miss Noir was alluring, and definitely not someone ordinary. Just keep her company for one night and all of them would get her protection.

Finn thought, I mustโ€™ve been blind to ever agree to let him stay by my side.

โ€œMiss Noir, I really donโ€™t see the point of this joke,โ€ Finn said.

Lanaโ€™s eyes went wide in disbelief as she stared at Sienna. Did someone possess her or something? Is she actually interested in Finn? she wondered.

To be fair, the guy was ridiculously good-looking, but Lana still felt he wasnโ€™t worthy of Sienna. With that thought, she shot Finn a disdainful glance.

Sienna let out a soft, amused laugh. โ€œMr. Eaton, are you really going to turn me down! What a pityโ€ฆโ€

A trace of awkwardness flashed across Finnโ€™s face as he turned away. Why does she feel so familiar, yet I can never see through her? he wondered.

โ€œMiss Noir, if you want anything on my boat, just take it. But give me back whatโ€™s mine,โ€ Finn said.

Sienna shook her head and took off her mask, โ€œFinn, youโ€™re still just as dull and uptight as ever?โ€

At the sound of that familiar voice, Finnโ€™s head whipped around โ€“ and there she was, Sienna Hart. Just like ten years ago, his heart started pounding wildly. That feeling heโ€™d buried for a decade came crashing back.

Evan shouted in disbelief, โ€œMr. Eaton, itโ€™s her! If youโ€™d just agreed to spend the night with her, you wouldโ€™ve gotten your wish. Ah, you stepped on my foot!โ€

Finnโ€™s heart thundered in his chest. A storm of emotions crashed over him โ€“ regret, longing, and a bittersweet ache. If Iโ€™d agreed just now, would she really have spent the night with me? he wondered.

But as soon as that thought surfaced, he immediately shut it down. He berated himself for being so indecent, because he knew full well she already had a family.

โ€œSienna, are you Hazel Noir as well?โ€ Finn forced himself to calm down, even though his heart was pounding like crazy.

โ€œYeah, thatโ€™s me. Iโ€™ve already helped get your things delivered. I was just teasing you earlier, donโ€™t take it to heart. Weโ€™re BFF. There are still a lot of people, so let me take you back home.โ€

Finn wondered, a pang of disappointment in his chest. Seriously, what am I even hoping for? What else could we possibly be if not friends? Am I really thinking about being the other guy here! Donโ€™t even go there.

โ€œThanks, Sienna. If you ever need anything in the future, just say the word โ€“ Iโ€™ll do whatever it takes,โ€ Finn said, trying to keep his tone casual.

Sienna glanced at him, her eyes softening with a touch of warmth. โ€œSure.โ€

That familiar fragrance drifted again, and just two seconds of eye contact was enough to make his whole body heat up, every cell inside him practically burning.

Finn quickly averted his gaze, mumbling, โ€œYouโ€™re amazingโ€ฆโ€

Lana rolled her eyes behind them. Please, as if Miss Hart could be anything but amazing.

Evan was full of regret. He thought, Just a little more and those two couldโ€™ve totally gotten together.

Mr. Eaton never listens to me. Miss Hart is gorgeous. I wonder if sheโ€™d ever want a pretty boy to keep around. Iโ€™d sign up in a heartbeat.

Lana looked at Evan like he was a total downer.

โ€œDamn it, Iโ€™ll never let go of these people,โ€ the middle-aged man grumbled, clearly pissed off.

โ€œChill. There are still a bunch of people there. No way theyโ€™re getting out of here alive,โ€ one of his men reassured him.

โ€œAlert the men up ahead โ€“ get ready for an ambush. We have to get the Eaton familyโ€™s goods. This is a golden opportunity. We canโ€™t let it slip by,โ€ the man ordered.
