Chapter 209
Not far away, Josef stood behind Calvinโs wheelchair, his sharp gaze fixed on the panicked Leo.
Youโre done for, Leo, Josef thought coldly.
โNo matter how many times I test it, the resultโs the same. Take it away,โ the bodyguard said.
โYou must be mistaken. This is the ZS Serum. Thereโs no way itโs wrong. I even keep it by my bedside when I sleep,โ Leo insisted.
The bodyguard tossed the box back to him. Leo fumbled it open, his eyes bulging in disbelief. Thisโฆ this isnโt the ZS Serum. Itโs the sleeping medication I gave Josef, he thought.
Whenโฆ when was it switched? Leoโs mind raced.
โWas itโฆ that moment when someone bumped into me getting out of the car?โ
Leoโs hand trembled as he stared at the plain bottle of sleeping medication. His heart sank like a stone into icy water.
โAh! Josef!โ Leo roared, unwilling to give in.
The bodyguards exchanged a look and walked over. โSince this isnโt the ZS Serum, youโll have to return the thirteen million dollars you took from us.โ
Leo was speechless. The money was practically in his hands, and now it was gone.
But he didnโt dare cross these people. Heart aching, he could only hand over his card for them to swipe.
Smack! The card hit the ground.
โThereโs not a single cent on this card!โ the bodyguard snarled.
โYou think this is funny? Thereโs nโโ
This guyโs got a death wish. Does he have any idea who our boss is? Trying to pull the same trick over and over, he must be tired of living. Does he think weโre pushovers! the bodyguard thought.
Leoโs jaw dropped. โThatโs impossible! Thereโs at least ten million dollars! How could there be nothing left?โ
He checked his bank notifications on his phone in disbelief, only to find that every account was empty.
โNo. This canโt be happening! Where did all my money go? I had so much just this morning. Itโs fineโฆ I still have assets overseas,โ he tried to reassure himself.
โWait! Wait, just give me three days! I can get the money, I swear. Three days!โ Leo pleaded frantically, waving his hands in panic, his voice trembling with fear.
The bodyguard glanced back, nodded, and with a swift kick, knocked over the wheelchair. โLiar! Teach him a lesson!โ
โNo, please! Please! Stop, stop! Iโll get you the money, I swear, I still have money!โ Leo cried out desperately.
An hour later, Leo, barely clinging to life, was dumped by the side of the road. โYouโd better bring the money tomorrow, or our boss will make your life a living hell. Do you hear me?โ
Leo nodded feebly. โOโokay.โ
From across the street, Josefโs eyes narrowed. He made a call. The cops showed up faster than Leo could even stand, snapping handcuffs as they dragged him up. Josef then showed up pushing Calvinโs wheelchair right into view.
Leoโs bloodshot eyes widened. He knew instantly.
โCalvin, please, this is all just a misunderstanding! I can explain, I swear! Weโve known each other for so many years. You know me better than anyone, Calvin!โ Leo pleaded desperately.
Calvin let out a mocking laugh.
โYou canโt do this to me! Have you forgotten? I saved your life once! I saved your life, Calvin! How can you be so ungrateful!โ Leo shouted, his voice filled with desperation and anger.
Calvin let out a heavy sigh, his eyes tinged with sadness and regret. Josef rested a hand on his shoulder. โDad, donโt waste your breath on him. People like him donโt deserve sympathy. If it werenโt for Sienna, I wouldnโt be here today.โ
Calvinโs gaze softened. โIn a few days, Sienna will be visiting your uncle. Go with her.โ
