Chapter 62

His fingers were cold and rigid, every knuckle sharply defined. He was also unnervingly strong. When his joints pressed down, the pain was so intense that Ivy couldnโ€™t help but cry out, her eyes flying open.

โ€œBear with it,โ€ he said, his voice flat and severe, offering no comfort.

But Ivy couldnโ€™t bear it. She was already in agonyโ€”now, on top of that, he was tormenting her with this pressure. Instinctively, she struggled, gripping Jamisonโ€™s hand so tightly that her palms turned slick with sweat.

โ€œAhโ€”it hurtsโ€”stop, Jamison, please, it hurts-โ€ Ivy curled into herself, clutching his hand as if it were a lifeline.

Jamison, however, didnโ€™t waver. He continued pressing on the pressure point, unmoved by her pleas.

Micah hurried back, and the moment he stepped inside, Ivyโ€™s cries of pain hit him. For a split second, he thought his uncle was actually hurting her, and he rushed in, panicked.

โ€œUncleโ€”donโ€™t-!โ€

But as he took in the scene, he realized it wasnโ€™t what heโ€™d imagined.

Jamison glanced back at him, his eyes sharp as knives. โ€œDid you get what I asked for?โ€

Micah nodded quickly and strode in. โ€œYeahโ€”painkillers, acupuncture needles, alcohol wipes, a hot water bottleโ€ฆ Itโ€™s just the rubber kind, though.โ€

โ€œFill it with hot water,โ€ Jamison instructed.

โ€œOkay.โ€

Jamison finally stopped the massage and tried to pull his hand away, but Ivy, dazed from the pain, was still clutching him tight.

โ€œLet go,โ€ he said coldly.

Only then did she realize and release her grip.

Jamison left and came back with a steaming mug. โ€œTake some painkillers firstโ€”they work the fastest.โ€

Ivy lay on her side, still curled up, eyes squeezed shut. In a faint voice, she replied, โ€œI already took twoโ€ฆโ€

He looked genuinely surprised. โ€œYouโ€™re still in this much pain after taking painkillers?โ€

No answer.

โ€œDid you tell your doctor about this last time you went for a checkup?โ€ Jamisonโ€™s brow furrowed as he recalled running into her at the hospital.

โ€œI had an abdominal ultrasoundโ€ฆ They didnโ€™t find anythingโ€ฆโ€

Jamisonโ€™s frown deepened, his expression grave.

He knew she couldnโ€™t just keep popping painkillers forever. Sighing, he conceded, โ€œAt least drink some hot water. Itโ€™ll help warm you up.โ€

Ivy didnโ€™t protest, but she was in too much pain to even sit up. With a look of irritation, Jamison stepped over, helped her up, and pressed the mug into her hands.

Micah dashed in again. โ€œThe hot water bottleโ€™s ready.โ€

Jamison took it, checked the temperature, and handed it to Ivy. โ€œWarm your hands with this.โ€

Micah muttered under his breath, โ€œItโ€™s boiling outside alreadyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œGet out. If I donโ€™t call you, donโ€™t come in.โ€ Jamison was clearly annoyed with his nephewโ€”spineless, indecisive, and far too talkative.

Micah hesitated. โ€œUncleโ€ฆ is there anything we can actually do to help Ivy? Shouldnโ€™t we take her to the hospital?โ€

Jamison didnโ€™t bother answeringโ€”he simply shot Micah a look over his shoulder. That was enough; Micah clammed up and slunk out.

Ivy sipped the hot water and hugged the bottle to her stomach. She did feel the tiniest bit better, but the pain in her lower abdomen still felt like her insides were being viciously twisted. Her legs ached with a deep, dull soreness she couldnโ€™t even describe. She lay back down, eyes closed, her features screwed up in pain.

โ€œIvy, acupuncture can help with the painโ€”but youโ€™ll have to cooperate. If you struggle like before, I could miss the right spot, and that could be dangerous,โ€ Jamison warned coolly as he opened the box of needles.

Ivy didnโ€™t even open her eyes. Her voice was barely a whisper. โ€œNo, thank you. I just want to sleep this offโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYouโ€™re in this much pain and you think you can sleep?โ€

โ€œNone of your business.โ€

โ€œIf I hadnโ€™t come, it wouldnโ€™t be my business. But since Iโ€™m here, it isโ€”and Iโ€™m not letting this go,โ€ he retorted, cold but commanding.

With that, Jamison pulled out his phone and made a call, setting it on speaker beside the bed.

โ€œProfessor Brown, hello, this is Jamison. Iโ€™m about to perform acupuncture on a patient with severe period pain, but Iโ€™m uncertain about a few points. Could you guide me?โ€

Ivyโ€™s eyes snapped open. She stared at him in disbelief. โ€œYou donโ€™t know what youโ€™re doing?!โ€
