Chapter 531
Ivy nodded, quietly accepting the gesture, then asked, โDid you record or film your meeting with her yesterday?โ
โNo,โ Roberta shook her head, her voice honest and subdued. โThe first time that guy approached me, it caught me completely off guard. I never imagined it would be about something like this. Then yesterday, that woman showed up out of nowhere. I did think about secretly recording her, but as soon as I reached for my phone, she noticed. So I never managed to get anything.โ
Ivy listened in silence, saying nothing as she pulled out her phone and started searching online.
Emma and Micahโs scandal had stirred up quite the storm a while back, and there had been plenty of gossip floating around on the internet. It only took a quick search to find something.
โHere, is this the woman?โ Ivy turned the phone toward Roberta.
Roberta stepped closer, studying the screen carefully before nodding several times. โYes, thatโs her. Even with the hat and sunglasses, I recognize her face and mouth.โ Ivy pulled her phone back, taking a slow, steadying breath.
It looked like Jamison had been right to keep people watching Emma. That had been a smart move.
Emma had gotten out of holding yesterday, and the very first thing sheโd done was find Robertaโtrying to figure out whether sheโd gone through with the poisoning. At that point, none of them had known Emma was out, which had given her the perfect opportunity.
Fortunately, Roberta had come to her senses at the last moment.
โIf you two know each other, canโt you just settle this? I mean, itโs hard to believe anyone in this day and age would actually hire someone to kill,โ Roberta said, letting out a heavy sigh. She looked lighter now, having confessed her part in everything, even a little righteously indignant.
Ivy gave a faint, almost bitter smile. โThereโs no way to make peace. Sheโs wanted me dead for a long timeโthis isnโt the first or even the second time. And that man is her accomplice.โ
Robertaโs eyes widened, shocked. โDidnโt you go to the police?โ
Chapter 5315
โNo evidence. How could they arrest her? Same goes for what you did to meโwithout proof, the police canโt do anything.โ
Still, with Sheridan behind bars now, Emma had lost her best ally. Alone and pregnant, sheโd have to think twice before causing more trouble.
Robertaโs face went red with embarrassment. She lowered her head, her guilt obvious. โIโm sorry.โ
Ivy didnโt respond to the apology.
Her feelings were a tangled mess. She never expected Emma would go so far as to reach into her school life, or even place someone right by her side.
Thinking it over gave her chills. It was honestly terrifying.
After a long silence, Roberta spoke up again. โIf you donโt trust me anymore, you can move out. Your husbandโs got connectionsโhe could easily talk to the dean and get you a new room.โ
Ivy looked at her, but before she could say anything, Roberta was already packing her books and water bottle, slinging her bag over her shoulder. โIโm headed to the study lounge,โ she said, and hurried out.
The door shut behind her, leaving Ivy alone in the room.
She stared blankly at the water dispenser. It was definitely a new machine, and the jug had just been replacedโbarely touched.
She remembered Friday, when sheโd gone to fill her cup and Roberta had rushed over, trying to stop her...
The memory crashed over her, making her shudder from head to toe.
Sheโd read about cases of students being poisoned in their own dorms. The thought of staying here any longer suddenly felt unbearable.
But switching rooms would be a hassle, involving paperwork with both her department and the school. It would be easier to just move out and rent an apartment nearby.
Once the idea struck, Ivy sprang into action, gathering her things.
As she reached for her water cup, a wave of unease washed over her. She glanced again at the dispenser and the fresh jug of water, her nerves on edge.
