Chapter 416

โ€œAlright then, letโ€™s wait and see how things go this time. If thereโ€™s any improvement, weโ€™ll stick with this treatment.โ€

They had just finished their conversation when a female doctor walked in. Her eyes lit up at the sight of Jamison. โ€œJamison? What a coincidence! Youโ€™re here to see Ms. Penn?โ€

Jamison glanced at his colleague and nodded politely. โ€œI brought my wife to see Ms. Penn for a consultation.โ€

โ€œYour wife?โ€ Celeste Quinnโ€™s eyes widened in surprise. โ€œYou actually got married?โ€

He nodded. โ€œYes.โ€

Professor Penn looked at her student and couldnโ€™t help but add, โ€œJamisonโ€™s wife is quite beautiful, you know. Heโ€™s always had high standards, and it looks like he finally found someone who met them.โ€

Celeste stared at him, momentarily at a loss for words. After hesitating for a couple of seconds, she managed, โ€œAnyone Jamison chooses must be remarkable.โ€ Jamison, without a hint of modesty, replied, โ€œShe is. Sheโ€™s truly exceptional.โ€

The room fell silent, the atmosphere suddenly freezing.

Professor Penn watched the two of them, shaking her head in resignation.

No one understood better than Professor Penn and her husband just how popular Jamison was with women. Celeste, in fact, was someone they had introduced to him a few years back. But Jamison had barely tolerated a single meeting before declaring it wasnโ€™t a good fit and never followed up.

Celeste, on the other hand, had fallen for him at first sight. She didnโ€™t just admire himโ€“she adored him, waited for him, and even treated him as an idol and a role model, pushing herself to become better.

Just last year, Celeste had earned her PhD, becoming the youngest and most accomplished female doctorate in the medical school.

Professor Penn knew her star pupil hadnโ€™t given up hope. Celeste believed that once she finished her doctorate, sheโ€™d be one step closer to her idol.

No one expected Jamison to suddenly get married out of the blue.

Just then, Jamisonโ€™s phone rang. He excused himself and stepped outside to take the call.

Celeste stood there, dazed, not even responding when Professor Penn called her name.

โ€œCeleste!โ€ Professor Penn raised her voice, finally snapping Celeste out of her trance. She quickly replied, โ€œYes, Ms. Penn?โ€

โ€œStop staring. Heโ€™s not yours, no matter how long you wait,โ€ Professor Penn said bluntly.

Celeste hesitated, then lowered her voice. โ€œMs. Penn, do you know what Jamisonโ€™s wife is sick with?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s none of your business. Just focus on your own responsibilities.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m justโ€ฆ concerned, thatโ€™s all.โ€

Professor Penn sighed, shaking her head. โ€œStop dreaming, Celeste. Set your sights elsewhere. There are plenty of talented young men out thereโ€“go meet some of them.โ€

Celesteโ€™s expression fell, her voice tinged with bitterness. โ€œI wish I couldโ€ฆ but no one can compare to Jamison. At least, no one Iโ€™ve ever met comes close.โ€

Out in the hallway, Jamison finished his call with home. As he turned around, he saw Ivy returning with a nurse.

โ€œAll done with your tests?โ€ he asked, reaching out to take her hand.

Ivy looked indifferent and ignored his gesture, even brushing his hand away to signal she wasnโ€™t in the mood for such affection.

Jamison ignored her resistance. When she got closer, he simply took her hand anyway. โ€œI asked you a questionโ€“cat got your tongue?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t feel like talking. Donโ€™t push me,โ€ Ivy replied coolly.

Jamisonโ€™s face darkened. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Did the results not look good?โ€

He glanced at the nurse beside Ivy for answers.

The nurse replied, โ€œDr. Ludwig, the electronic reportโ€™s already been sent over to Dr. Penn. You should ask her directly.โ€

Jaw set, Jamison tightened his grip on Ivyโ€™s hand and led her back to Professor Pennโ€™s office.

Celeste was still there. When she saw them walk in, hand in hand, her surprise was obvious.

Her gaze fell on Ivyโ€“and in her eyes, a shadow of insecurity flashed.
