Chapter 393

But Sheridanโ€™s reputation cast a long shadow over the Carter familyโ€™s prestige.

โ€œIn all our cityโ€™s social circles, who else has the nerve to throw such a grand party for a third wedding? Honestly, have they no shame?โ€

โ€œOh, come on, thatโ€™s not fair. Sheridan may be on his third marriage, but Miss Emmaโ€™s never been married before. Of course, they want to make it a big deal.โ€

โ€œPlease! Emmaโ€™s first marriage? She was engaged to Mr. Shepherd, even had a child with himโ€”though she lost itโ€”and then he dumped her. How is that any different from a second marriage?โ€

โ€œWell, there you have it. Theyโ€™re a perfect matchโ€”both with a bit of baggage.โ€

โ€œHaha, true enough!โ€

As soon as Ivy and Jamison stepped into the ballroom, they were met with a chorus of whispers and snide remarks all around them.

โ€œYou were rightโ€”thereโ€™s bound to be fireworks tonight,โ€ Jamison murmured, leaning down to speak softly as he offered his arm to his wife.

Ivy shot him a look and whispered, โ€œIgnore them. Remember, your back hasnโ€™t healed yetโ€”donโ€™t drink anything, and keep your distance. No one bumps into you, understand?โ€

โ€œUnderstood.โ€ Jamison grinned, then added, โ€œYouโ€™re taking this housekeeper role a bit too seriously, darling. Iโ€™ll have to reward you later.โ€

Ivy rolled her eyes. โ€œโ€ฆโ€

โ€œMr. Jamison! Welcome, glad you could make it!โ€

Sheridan, busy entertaining guests, spotted them and immediately broke away, greeting them with exaggerated warmth.

He barely glanced at Jamison before his gaze landed on Ivy. His eyes practically lit up as he gushed, โ€œMrs. Jamison, you look absolutely stunning tonightโ€”like a goddess come down to earth!โ€

Most people would know better than to shower compliments on another woman at their own engagement partyโ€”especially not with their fiancรฉe in the room.

But Sheridan made no effort to hide his admiration, clearly lost in his own little fantasy.

Jamisonโ€™s expression soured, but this wasnโ€™t the time for jealousy.

He extended his hand for a brief shake. โ€œCongratulations, Mr. Carter. You certainly donโ€™t waste any time finding your next soulmate.โ€

Ivy had to bite her cheek to keep from laughing. Trust Jamison to never miss a beat.

Sheridan didnโ€™t seem to mind the jab. He just laughed, replying, โ€œWhen love hits, what can you do? Let me go get Emmaโ€”โ€

He turned to a staff member nearby. โ€œGo, let Miss Emma know her special guests have arrived.โ€

Sheridan led them further inside, and the moment they moved away, the guestsโ€™ whispers grew even louder.

โ€œThatโ€™s Jamison, isnโ€™t it? Heโ€™s always kept to himself, never shows up at these parties. Since when is he friends with someone like Sheridan?โ€

โ€œYou havenโ€™t heard? Jamison had a whirlwind wedding with Ivy. Take a look at tonightโ€™s brideโ€”Sheridan and Jamison are family now!โ€

โ€œSeriously?โ€

โ€œI thought Ivy was cut off from the Windsor family?โ€

โ€œThat was the Windsors trying to save faceโ€”once their eldest daughterโ€™s reputation was ruined, they kicked her out. Now that sheโ€™s married into real money, theyโ€™re crawling back, hoping sheโ€™ll forgive them.โ€

โ€œShameless. Imagine treating your own daughter like that.โ€

With Jamison by her side, Ivy walked through the hall, every head turning to watch them pass.

โ€œTsk, so Ivy really did end up with Mr. Jamison.โ€

โ€œBut wasnโ€™t she kidnapped? Lost her innocence and everything. Doesnโ€™t Mr. Jamison care?โ€

โ€œWho knows? But youโ€™ve got to admit, Ivyโ€™s gorgeous. Maybe even Mr. Jamison couldnโ€™t resist.โ€

โ€œI recognize that gown sheโ€™s wearing. Itโ€™s the boutiqueโ€™s pride and joyโ€”never for sale, only for display. How did Ivy get her hands on it?โ€

โ€œAre you clueless? Sheโ€™s Ivyโ€”already a legend. Now that sheโ€™s married Mr. Jamison, forget about a dress; the Ludwig family could buy the whole street if they wanted.โ€

There hadnโ€™t been such a buzz in the Neo Haven social scene in years. The whole cityโ€™s elite seemed abuzz with excitement and gossip, all eyes drawn by the spectacle.
