Listen to this chapter:

The gala soon officially began. After a brief welcome speech, Leroy invited several CEOs to the stage for opening remarks.

Then, with great ceremony, he called Jamison up for a few words.

All eyes turned to Jamisonโ€”and, naturally, no one missed the strikingly beautiful Ivy at his side.

Not wanting to leave his stunning wife alone to be ogled by the crowd, Jamison took her hand and led her up to the stage with him.

โ€œMr. Ludwig,โ€ Leroy said, microphone in hand and unable to resist fishing for opportunities, โ€œsince youโ€™re here tonight with us, are you considering investing in any of our projects?โ€

Jamison accepted the mic from the host, offering a faint smile. โ€œWe are considering it,โ€ he replied, โ€œbut of course, only if something catches our interest as a couple.โ€

The way he said โ€œas a couple,โ€ grouping himself and Ivy together, sent another ripple of surprise through the audience.

โ€œWhy on earth would Mr. Jamison dote on Ivy like this? Even after all the scandals, he still treats her like a queen.โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t know Ivy. Donโ€™t think sheโ€™s just a pretty faceโ€”she was brilliant in school, a real academic star.โ€

โ€œIf she hadnโ€™t disappeared for those three years, the sky wouldโ€™ve been the limit for her.โ€

The Windsor family stood awkwardly amid the crowd, overhearing the whispers. The comments left a bitter taste in their mouths.

To make matters worse, someone approached them with thinly veiled sarcasm.

โ€œMr. Windsor, congratulations! Ivy is truly exceptionalโ€”beauty and brains, a role model for the next generation.โ€

โ€œSuch a shame some people didnโ€™t recognize her worthโ€”kicked out their golden goose and kept a counterfeit instead.โ€

The crowd chuckled, making the Windsorsโ€™ faces darken further.

Emma nearly lost her temper, barely restraining herself for the sake of appearances.

Rosetta, however, maintained her composure and smiled. โ€œBlood ties canโ€™t be broken. Sooner or later, Ivy will return to the Windsor family. When that day comes, donโ€™t come begging for her favor.โ€

Someone scoffed, โ€œDream on! Ivyโ€™s no fool. Now that sheโ€™s with Mr. Jamison, why would she ever come back? She knows better than to let you leech off her again.โ€

Rosetta was left speechless.

Emma jumped in to defend her mother. โ€œYou have no idea. My sister values family much more than you thinkโ€”she doesnโ€™t care about money.โ€

โ€œFamily? The Windsors know anything about that?โ€

โ€œYou-โ€

Before Emma could retort, a wave of applause erupted from the stage.

They turned to see Jamison and Ivy, arm in arm, bowing gracefully before handing the mic back to the host. The two of them descended together, radiating happiness and affection.

The moment they stepped down, a flock of business heavyweights swarmed around themโ€”some exchanging pleasantries, others offering congratulations, but all eager to curry favor.

โ€œCome on, letโ€™s go say hello to Mr. Jamison!โ€

โ€œHurry, we canโ€™t miss this!โ€

No one bothered arguing with the Windsors anymore, the crowdโ€™s attention shifted entirely to Jamison.

Adkins watched the scene unfold, torn between anger and regret. He couldnโ€™t help but ask his wife, โ€œWhat did you say to them earlier? Did Ivy agree?โ€

Rosetta shook her head, her voice uncertain. โ€œFrom her reactionโ€ฆ I donโ€™t think she refused.โ€

Baillie pressed her lips together, unable to hide her resentment. โ€œIvyโ€™s gotten so full of herself. Weโ€™re still family, but now that sheโ€™s made it big, she wonโ€™t even look at us. All those years raising her for nothing.โ€

Emma muttered, โ€œShe acted the same way before she married Jamison, always thinking she was above everyoneโ€ฆโ€

Rosetta shot her a warning look, and Emma immediately fell silent.

Jamison held a glass of whiskey for appearancesโ€™ sake, but didnโ€™t drink. Instead, he handed Ivy a glass of fresh juice. โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t drink tonight. Try thisโ€”itโ€™s freshly squeezed.โ€

โ€œThank you,โ€ Ivy replied warmly.

They exchanged a smile, captivating everyone around them, not a single gaze left Ivy.

Just then, a young man about Jamisonโ€™s age, Sheridan Carter, strode up and threw an arm around Jamisonโ€™s shoulders, teasing, โ€œGetting married so suddenly, Jamison! I have to say, you lucked outโ€”your wife is stunning.โ€

Jamison sidestepped, removing Sheridanโ€™s arm with a playful grin. โ€œSays the guy whoโ€™s been down the aisle twice already. If you can do it, why canโ€™t I?โ€

Sheridan burst out laughing. โ€œHey, thatโ€™s not my fault. Women seem sweet when youโ€™re dating, but once you marry them, they turn into nagging harpies.โ€

As he finished, Sheridan glanced at Ivy, halfโ€“joking, halfโ€“serious. โ€œTake my advice, Ivyโ€”donโ€™t be too controlling. No man likes to feel tied down.โ€

Ivy opened her mouth to reply, but Jamison beat her to it. โ€œYou donโ€™t know me at all. I love it when my wife keeps me in lineโ€”the stricter she is, the happier I am.โ€

He turned to Ivy, his tone direct. โ€œBabe, tough love makes a better manโ€”donโ€™t hold back.โ€

Ivy gave him a dazzling smile, her eyes sparkling with mischief. โ€œAll right, Iโ€™ll make sure you get what you wish for.โ€

Sheridan was completely bewitched by her smile, practically drooling as he joked, โ€œSay, do you have any friends as amazing as you? Maybe you could introduce one to me.โ€

Ivyโ€™s lips curled in amusement. Well, wasnโ€™t that a coincidenceโ€”she actually did have a โ€œfriendโ€ in mind.
