Listen to this chapter:

โ€œCan I ask what you plan to do with this money?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m going to buy out The Windsor Group.โ€ Ivyโ€™s eyes were icy, her tone resolute. โ€œI want to ruin them completely. They need to pay for the mistakes they made.โ€

Jamison nodded. โ€œIโ€™m with you. But Adkins is no foolโ€”he wonโ€™t just sit back and wait for this to happen. If youโ€™re not careful, you could end up dragging yourself down with them.โ€

โ€œI know. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m thinking through every step before making a move.โ€ She looked back at him, lips pressed together in thought. โ€œIf things get complicated, I may need your help.โ€

โ€œHappy to oblige.โ€ Jamison straightened up, a genuine smile breaking through before he asked, half teasing, โ€œIโ€™m surprised, though. You always kept your distance before, like you were afraid of owing me anything. What changed your mind?โ€

Ivy hesitated, looking a bit embarrassed. There was a reason, of course, but it wasnโ€™t the sort of thing she could say out loud.

Jamison watched her, then flashed a roguish grin. โ€œDonโ€™t tell meโ€”you realized youโ€™re in love with me, so now you trust me and want to lean on me?โ€

Ivy rolled her eyes, speechless. She focused on her food, then after a moment asked quietly, โ€œDo you really want to know?โ€

โ€œOf course.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve had this plan for a while, but I didnโ€™t have the money and was waiting for the right moment. I never expected youโ€™d set your sights on me, let alone that weโ€™d end up here togetherโ€ฆโ€

Jamison smirked, almost wry. โ€œSo I basically handed myself to you on a silver platter.โ€

Ivy smiled, then spoke honestly. โ€œHonestly, I wasnโ€™t planning to ask for your help. But after yesterday, after you sat me down and told me everythingโ€”I realized just how powerful you really are, Dr. Ludwig. I shouldnโ€™t underestimate you.โ€

Sheโ€™d always assumed Jamisonโ€™s late birth made him the afterthought in the Ludwig family, that heโ€™d carved out his own path as a doctor because he had no place among the familyโ€™s wealth.

But after heโ€™d opened up to her, she realized the truth: Jamison was far shrewder than sheโ€™d ever guessed. His primary work wasnโ€™t in the operating room; he was, in fact, a formidable player in the world of high finance. That revelation had genuinely surprised her.

Life had thrown her more than a few curveballs. If she hadnโ€™t been taken away for three years, she and Micah would likely be planning their wedding by now, and sheโ€™d never have crossed paths with Jamison.

But fate had dropped this โ€œheir to a fortuneโ€ right in her lap. She wasnโ€™t about to ignore a gift from the universe.

So when Adkins slapped her today, her mind immediately raced for ways to fight back. Jamisonโ€™s name was the first that came to mind.

She was done putting up with the Windsor familyโ€™s smug faces, done being guilt-tripped and manipulated.

If everything she did was wrong in their eyes, if sheโ€™d always be condemned no matter what, then maybe it was time to fully embrace her โ€œblack sheepโ€ reputation. She almost looked forward to seeing how her so-called family would react when they lost everything.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, I wonโ€™t let you lose out on this investment. Once Iโ€™ve acquired The Windsor Group, Iโ€™ll transfer the shares to you. Youโ€™ll become the majority owner, pulling the strings behind the scenes.โ€

Ivy had zero interest in running a company herselfโ€”she had no desire for that kind of headache.

Jamison listened, torn between amusement and disbelief. โ€œSo let me get this straight: Iโ€™m lending you the money, and then I have to saddle myself with a new job?โ€

โ€œYou donโ€™t want The Windsor Group?โ€ Ivy looked genuinely surprised. She considered it for a moment, then said, โ€œFine, Iโ€™ll find a way to cash out or transfer the shares elsewhere. Either way, Iโ€™ll pay you back, with interest.โ€

Jamison calmly took a bite of his food, then paused. โ€œIโ€™ll lend you the money. Whether or not you pay me back isnโ€™t importantโ€”just promise me one thing in return.โ€
